May I ask again on the topic of the later Meetup?

On the location, I would be open to pretty much anything. (Jazz club -- Pizza Hut)

Shakleton: Can we get back to you about the next meetup in a few days?

Everyone else: How about we meet at 8 or so at the Library Bar at 7th Avenue A, down the street from the Bleecker Street subway station? I've never been to the place, but I hear it's the only place in New York where you can get a drink without running into investment bankers. Either it's craptastically bad (memories in the making!), or the greatest thing since sliced bread. Anything in between is clearly unacceptable.

We can toddle down to The Annex after that...

Do you have an address for the Liberty Bar? I can't find it. Bleeker St Station doesn't look far from The Annex, but I think meeting a bit earlier would be good. There are two other bands on before Freezepop, and there's no telling how quickly the place will fill up.

Here's a google map link for the Library (not Liberty!) Bar:

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UT ... 15&iwloc=A

Earlier is probably a good idea... I'll head to the bar directly from work at around 7, we can meet up, get a drink or two and then head down to the Annex.

Edit: The address is 7th Avenue A. Really. I found it odd too.

They did play brainpower. It was excellent.

I also fail at keeping to a schedule -- i got out of work late and missed the initial meetup, and only found helen and hendusoone at the annex when one of them asked me if i was lazarus. those two are much braver than i am!

Great. I just missed the New York meeting.
-_-

Well... the Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy exhibit in the Met Museum is going on until Sept 1st... Plus all the usually juicy stuff there is in the Met.
If that's not compelling, I declare myself clueless.

Should we aim at doing it before August is over?
If Astroland wasn't a dumpster I would add it to the list of suggestions. Plus, I'm not sure it's even working/open anymore :(

I was in and around the Astroland area last month (for Siren Music Fest, which was less fun than it sounds), and it appears functional, if you were curious.

I'm moving (to the Boston-meetup area) soon, and don't see myself making another NYC meetup, though : / Good luck!

Monday, ha.
Depending on what you consider satisfactory, we could meet up.
I'm free. I live in NY. So why not? :}
Anyone else?

Now, other than that, I'm up for a bigger, meaner meet-up as well, if any of you (us) NY meet-up'ers want to hug right before school starts again...

I never went to the actual Mermaid Parade, for practical reasons beyond my control wtvr, but yes, I heard it's far less fantastic than it sounds...
Ha. My only and best friend -so far- is moving to Boston as well.
So now you are in the same emotional basket as him, for I have never met anyone -other than you two- that would relate to Boston in any way.
(Maybe John Adams. Maybe)
Good luck! Let me know if that place is suited for fun...?

Can't do tonight... work is sadly taking a toll on me.

Here's an idea (not necessarily for the next meetup, obviously): Bronx Zoo in the fall.

I should probably get myself in on this NY meetup action, seeing's how I live 30 minutes out. I'm sadly uninformed regarding cool stuff to do in the city, but I definitely support the idea of meeting up at the zoo this fall. With a scavenger hunt. And a significant amount of time to spend in the Mouse House, staring at Schemer the cloud rat.

Yes. I named him Schemer. I defy anyone to challenge it.

Mogwai is playing at Terminal5 on 9/26. Tickets are pricier than they should be: $25+OTAF[1], but depending on the quality of their new album, it could still be worth it.

Is anyone interested?

[1] Obligatory Ticketmaster Analrapy[2] Fee: usually in the range of $5-$10.
[2] No therapy included. Any Arrested Development[3] fans here?
[3] No? Well, I didn't want to be your friend[4] anyway.
[4] Just kidding. Seriously, let's hang out.

I want to hang out, truly. Yet...Not so sure about that band, which I have never heard of...?
Happy Hour anyone?
Other things?
Meet-up after the band plays, even? Or before?
Option, options...!

1. Ticketmaster can eat my cancer until they turn black, which is perhaps the biggest reason I love Pearl Jam (yeah. Two grunge references IN ONE LINE)
2. Maybe insurance covers it.
3. I find it a little cornball.
4. I'll be your wingman. Even if it means I have to take a chubby, I will suck it up.

I vote happy hour tomorrow night. Who's down? And, uh, where would it happen? I work in the Financial district so I'd need to figure out the best way to get where I'm going. Also, I will be dressed like a tool.

How do you feel about Ulysses? I've only ever been there during off-peak times (the Sunday brunch is probably the best in the city for the money), and I can imagine it's not quite the same for a happy hour. But that's the only one I know on Stone, and I like it.

Ulysses it is. Can we say 7:30-ish?

Also: it's Ramadan and I'm dry for the next month or so.This shouldn't stop anyone from drinking though[1]... I'll just be guzzling diet cokes and getting high on caffeine. :)

Olive-ish slacks and a tan button-up. I'll be reading a Stephen King collection (I love that there's more than one person who plans on reading while waiting at a bar).

Never read Neuromancer -- perhaps I'll pick it up during my next book run.

Guys... work just blew up in my face (yay turbulent markets and rickety infrastructure!). I'm going to be cleaning up this shite for a while, and it looks like I'm not going to make it this evening.

If anyone other than Clintonius signed up for this evening, you guys should DEFINITELY still meet up.

It'd be great to get together at some stage next week, but it's completely understandable if this is not possible.

[insert further self-flagellation here]

Sorry again :(

Good news, everyone! As previously mentioned, I can sneak myself and three other ne'er-do-wells into various zoos around New York for free on certain weekends.

Bronx Zoo
October 11 - 12

Central Park Zoo
September 27 - 28

CPZ is kind of lame, but I hear good things aboot Bronx Zoo. Tell me if you're interested!

I don't know if anyone here keeps up with Improv Anywhere, but they're doing another event in NYC soon:

"We’re thrilled to announce the dates of the first ever Mp3 Experiment tour. We’re partnered with Yahoo! to take our annual New York event on the road. The tour will start in New York and will make stops in Toronto, San Francisco, and Chicago. Each event is free and open to the public.

The Mp3 Experiment 5: New York City
Saturday, September 27 at 3:15 PM at Governor’s Island"

If anyone was feeling up to it, possibly we could make a day out of it?
