We in the northwest (the GOOD part of North America) should have a meetup. The area of influence will be the whole world, but I want to try and get EVERYONE from this here zone:

What time in 2008 is good for everyone? Potential locations are Vancouver & Seattle.

The US-Canada border looks like a line that points out that the Dickweeds are located in Vancouver.

Shouldn't we first ask a question like "Who on this here fora live in the highlighted section?", and *then* decide the place that is a middle-ground; closer to the place with higher concentration of fora members, but close enough to everyone else.

Anywho, Spring Break '08, or as far as I know, anytime in between May-August is good pour moi.

As for Calgary, it's $93 to go from Calgary to Vancouver. That's less than the gas to drive it.

But it's free to just have the meetup IN Calgary.

Okay, okay, I'll drop it. I still say we find a place in the middle of the Rockies and camp out there for a weekend.

I'd say my in-laws farm, but then I'd have to explain to farmers that "I'd like to have some people I've never met before, mostly math nerds and computer programmers, who hang out on a webcomic forum, drive from all over North America to stay in the back 40 by Duck Range Road. No, put the gun down..."

Somewhere in the Rockies would be sweet, I'm already there, and I LOVE the Rockies. I say we COMPLETELY conquer the town of Field (population: 300, but it has lodging for 300 more). Once you see the scenery around Field, you'll never want to leave.

All in favour of having a meetup in the Rockies? Remember people, if it's in British Columbia, the legal drinking age is 19. 19. Let all ye minors of America unite in alcohol consumption!

I'm starting to think this may be a Calgary/Alberta meetup with special guest MJ if our United Statesians aren't willing to go all the way up there... :razz:

Field ( [show location on an interactive map] 51°23′48″N, 116°29′9″W) is a town of approximately 300 people located in the Kicking Horse River valley of southeastern British Columbia, Canada within the confines of Yoho National Park. Field was established during the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway as a locomotive depot for pusher engines required to help trains over the nearby Field Hill and Big Hill. The town was given its name by the CPR in December 1884 to honour American businessman Cyrus West Field, who was instrumental in establishing trans-atlantic telegraph service. Field is 27 km west of Lake Louise along the Trans-Canada Highway, the only access to Field. The visitor centre for Yoho National Park is located in Field. Those wishing to visit the nearby area surrounding Lake O'Hara must either obtain tickets for a bus service managed by Yoho National Park or hike the 11 kilometer dirt road on foot. Due to the extreme popularity of the Lake O'Hara region, bus reservations often sell out 3 months in advance although a small number of seats are held until the previous day. The bus reservation phone number is 250.343.6433 and accepts reservations March through September.

Ok, I'm the token Calgarian who went to the original meetup in Cambridge, and it's been over a month so I'm itching to do another one. If it's anywhere in the Edmonton-Regina-Calgary-Vancouver-Seattle-Portland corridor, I'm up for it!

I get back from China sometime in the summer. Not sure when yet. When you get this finalized, PM me, since I live in Seattle. I don't know if I'll have a car right after I get back (since I sold it when I left), so I might be up for carpooling (if I don't have a car), or giving people a ride (if I do). If it's before the summer, then nevermind.

But yeah I really would rather it be in the summer (when schools out), and in canada (drinking age of 19).

I love the town of field idea. How many people would be willing to go though? Getting there would be a problem for me, at the moment, and if it would be in the summer then the probability of it still being a problem for me would go down.

How about Bellevue? It's on the intersection of I-405 and I-90 instead of I-5 and I-90. IMHO it's a lot nicer city than Seattle. The streets are wider, there's more parking, it has better parks and shopping, and there are far fewer homeless people.
I can't think of any parks in portland off the top of my head, but there are probably several, knowing portland. Should it even be at a park? I suppose it could also be up in Vancouver if enough people would be coming from BC.

Summer is probably the best time, especially considering the weather.

I vote after mid-July (not back from honeymoon until then), anywhere between Vancouver and Seattle. Preferably not mid-Rockies, since I most likely wouldn't be able to make it out there, having had just taken a month off work.
