I haven't been around for a while. But now I'm back. Sort of. Not to the degree I was before, since I have more going on now than I used to.
On the CTA it probably takes an hour at least to get to Evanston from downtown. Maybe longer on a weekend, having to take an all-stop red-line train and transfer to the purple. Metra might be quicker if the timing was right, although the station is all the way west of the river (UP-N trains leave from Ogilvie Trans. Center at Madison and Canal, and Millenium Park is near Columbus and Randolph, for those mapping it). Driving on a weekend, unless there are tons of events that day, is 35 minutes (it would be much quicker if LSD didn't end in Edgewater, leaving you to plod on surface streets for half the trip... though the lakefront in Rogers Park and the north shore 'burbs is probably better for not having the drive right near it... or maybe it's actually worse, 'cause through most of the city LSD forms a barrier between the dense development inland and the extensive waterfront parkland).
If we have very many people, driving somewhere in a group is bound to be messy. Trying to find multiple parking spots in urban areas... yech. I think it would be easiest to keep the meetup within a reasonable walking radius. If Kaffeine is just a random coffee shop in Evanston I'm sure there are good coffee shops downtown too (don't know where any are 'cause I'm not a coffee person)... actually though most downtown businesses are pretty business-oriented. But we could probably find a good hangout-type place without going too far out of the way. I know of a cool tea shop on one of the fragments of 14th street. Don't know about games, they have cool tea though.
One of these days my desk is going to collapse in the middle and all its weight will come down on my knee and tear my new fake ACL. It could be tomorrow. This is my concern.
