We're doing the Mt. Doom hike tomorrow, and working our way south.

Re: New Zealand meet up
When you hit Christchurch be sure to head out through Arthurs pass and do the cave stream swim/climb. I can't remember how long it is, but I remember it taking about two hours to climb through it going upstream, so set aside a full day then you can check out castle hill and the lakes while you're in the area.

Okay, we'll be in Auckland the 5th. If anyone wants to get a drink, lemme know.
For now, we're heading to the north cape for sand dune boogyboarding and such, and then heading down the west coast for the kauri forests.

Re: New Zealand meet up
Good evening, NZ thread!
I've been visiting family on the West Coast and soon will head to Christchurch (through Arthur's Pass) and spend the day/evening there, this coming Friday. Are there any places of interest that you guys could recommend? We are all adults, and we have until almost 4am Saturday morning as our flight back to Australia leaves a bit after 6.

Context? What context?

Re: New Zealand meet up
Hey guys, anyone keen to kick off another round of the sneakernet? I can front for a 2TB or two to send around if there is new content to be shared. I've been downloading at a rate of about 100gb/month since the start of the year, so have quite a bit of new stuff here.

Re: New Zealand meet up
I guess I'd be keen. I formatted my hd not long ago, so I haven't got much, but I could pool from other people as well.

I have a 500GB drive as well that I could put to good use. That is if we want it going two directions at once.

Re: New Zealand meet up
Ok, if I load up a drive with ~800gb of stuff from my computer onto this 1.5 I have here then send that and a new drive to one of you guys, can I get someone to back up any new stuff from the sneakernet onto said drive for me to pick up when I come back to NZ at the end of the year?
Re: New Zealand meet up
I can do that with ease. I have about 1.5TB of storage at my house (that is unused)
Also I have a friend near saladin that is interested (also saladin is in)

Re: New Zealand meet up
There should be a new 2TB drive on its way to your house now to get things kicked off, I assume you still have the old enclosure laying around?
Provided work isn't too busy I should be able to get into town and ship my harddrive full of goodies over to you by the end of the week.

I still have the enclosure... But I might just go buy a new one for us anyway.

I got the 2TB drive. Will buy a new enclosure today if I can. And fill it up with my stuff over the next 2/3 days while on night shift.

I would've been gone already if I didn't pick up such a good job after I came back from Uni.

I had a good job. Now I got a shitty one, and I'm off to uni next year.
Where are you situated? Richmond, Stoke, City, etc? If it's not too much to ask. You don't have to answer, but I'm not going to stalk you or anything.
Maybe not.

Oh what - I like that road, although twice a day might be a bit much.. You think you had it bad, I was commuting from Tapawera to Nelson for work everyday for a few months. Dark when I left, dark when I returned and I don't even think it was winter

I think it was just 6 days a week getting up at 5am that did me in. And the $90 petrol bill.

Re: New Zealand meet up
I am definitely thinking of going. Wolfmother! MIA! The only ones I'm not that keen on are Rammstein and Tool. Last time I road tripped up from Nelson in a van, and it was sweet.

Re: New Zealand meet up
hah, thats a lot of driving yikes! tool and deftones are why i'm going, i went to see tool last time in 2007 i think but i really cant recall that much, drinking from 11 in the morning does not aid memory and wearing shoes in a mosh pit is always a good idea.... but it was still epic, cant wait i have been dying to see deftones, i have my flights and ticket sorted already XD, i would probably go see M.I.A just to wind my da up, he loves trip hop. and come on rammensteins pyrotechnics would be worth watching at least
! sorry i'm totally overexcited right now.

I'm more excited about Phat, cos it will probably be cheaper and it goes for longer. And there's more time for hard drugs. Why cram everything into one day when you can do it all over 4 days?

... and remember what the bands actually sounded like
(god i am getting old, next i'll be talking about wearing earplugs to concerts...)

Re: New Zealand meet up
Tru dat. My mates 21st is coming up soon, and I got to tell him somehow I don't want to ping with him. and If I don't take E on his birthday, I won't be able to take it at Phat. and I just got a new job kitchenhanding, so I might not be able to go anyway. And I don't want to spend $500. So yeah, not going to phat.suffer-cait wrote:because hard drugs is not a thing you should be doing anyway.
I actually don't like live music that much, so I'd be happy wearing earplugs to a concert and just tripping balls with everyone around me dancing. I went to see Lady Gaga in Auckland, and couldn't hear a word she sang, but the pills combined reeeaaallllyyyyy nicely with the visual effects.aylalalalalala wrote:and remember what the bands actually sounded like(god i am getting old, next i'll be talking about wearing earplugs to concerts...)

with a burning passion... if i have to do the countdown in the office with 2 other chicks, and obnoxious customers screaming at me on the phone... ugh
christmas day ones suck more if your family doesn't live in the same city... actually being sober for xmas or new years just sucks in general

Re: New Zealand meet up
Ahahahaha lucky you. Last year I worked in a restaurant in Mapua, and did the countdown on top of a shipping container on the wharf with my girlfriend, an acrobat and a Californian pot grower. All of my other friends were at Phat, and I finished work at 11:45 New years eve night. The restaurant owner gave my girlfriend a bottle of tequila. She fell off the container.
I think I could handle Christmas sober. It's been a while, might be nice to spend time with the family again. And with my new job, I might even get it off.

I decided I might as well post here coz I'm a NZ'er and willing to meet up with other xkcder's and nerds. I'm a Timaruvian which if you don't know is a person from Timaru. I hope that if we ever do have a NZ xkcd meet up I am able to join in.
