I'm up for april.

"Earth" (a for-theater adaptation of "planet earth") is playing at the AMC river east on Apr 22. Just saying.

I'm going to a yann tiersen concert the day before that.

There is talk of some major demonstration in DC on the 24,25, and 26. Maybe we can hang out while that's going on.

Man guys, as it turns out, I might not be available until mid- to late-May because of school and work. :(

I will be at EARTH April 22nd at River East, likely.

Also PSYCHO is playing at Grant Park movies in the park on August 11th. That's not relevant, I just got excited about it. Why small n' cozy? Are other city's meet ups big and roomy?

Can there be non-meetup related questions here?
Feel free to delete this, but I am curious. Does anyone here have strong feelings about the Olympics 2016?

I say "small n' cozy" because we've never had more than 4 people at a meetup and we usually have had them in small places, like coffeeshops. I'd love to get more people - having something regular will probably bring more people than even monthly one-off meetups.

I don't want the Olympics in Chicago, but that's because we already have enough clueless tourists. (Also, money is a problem, but this isn't my concern.)

Olympics are almost always good news for a city. Chicago has a ton of venue spaces, uses them all, and has fairly high unemployment, and as such could benefit from all the jobs it would open. The space would be difficult to pull off (35th by the lake? Are you joking?) and Washington park is a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE area, but I see this as being a method for really bringing a lot of revenue into the city and helping Chicago get rolling towards further awesomeness.

Clueless tourists aren't Chicago's weakspot. The city is well setup to provide real stuff mixed with it's touristy stuff.

Psycho in the park?! Awesome.

It's only slightly likely that I would go see Planet Earth at River East on Wednesday. I missed the March announcement. But I'm eager to meet up. I'm a little hesitant to do the 4pm geohashing tomorrow (it's all the way at Kankakee, straight shot on the highway though) but would be willing to take someone if they are enthusiastic and have a GPS. Alternatively these are the last few days of the Chicago Improv Festival; I intend to go sometime this weekend.

Are there any May ideas floating around? I would need to take the South Shore Line, so any stops near those stations would be great for me (ex: nice little places near Millennium Station?). :) I've been intending to visit Chicago another time for a while now, and the weather is getting just about perfect.

No way is I'm on a boat dead. It is so alive, it's probably inside you right now, making you want to get on youtube and watch it again.

However, I was serious. XKCD meetup on a boat!

Anyway, someone mentioned that Borders on State, and that's really close to Millennium Station!

Would anyone possibly still be interested in that? Maybe hit up Millennium Park for some leisure?

If anything else is planned, please contact me. :)

Since I have a record (okay, like one meetup) of suggesting times and places that actually collect people, I'll go at it again, now that school will be finishing soon:

Friday, June 12th. 4 pm. Chinatown. Joy Yee's. Best bubble teas in town. If it goes well, people can come to dinner at Lao Sze Chuan. Best Chinese place in town.

What say you?

You are certainly on the right track! I love Joy Yee. But 4pm is a bit early for those of us who work, unless I stay home that day. If a bunch of us agree to come though I'll skip out on work!

We can make it 5 or 6 pm, by all means.

At the risk of sounding like a broken iPod, I'd like to bump this. And hope that someone will decide that this Friday sounds like an excellent idea. I'm almost done with school, so I'm in the mood to celebrate. And what better way than bubble tea?

Again, 6 pm is perfectly suitable, if people find that more convenient. This Friday, at Cermak-Chinatown, easily accessible by Red Line. Any takers?

I'll be in Chicago all next week for training for work. I'm coming in via Midway Airport, ETA 5:30pm Central. A bubble-tea meetup sounds awesome after the flight!
Also, Hostel International is booked for the weekend so I couldn't get a bunk there. I don't have any "reputation" or whatever on CouchSurfing so nobody's letting me crash for the weekend. I'm going to be a bum in Chicago for the weekend. Could a kind forumite lend a hand? Please? I'll cook dinner.

I would love to meet up with others in Chicago-never checked this thread before. Can be induced to make arrangements, etc. if necessary.

Any suggestions for time/place?

virgletati took me to FermiLab today!

Two roads diverged in the center of a huge particle collider,
And I, I took the one less traveled by.
And that made all the difference.

*poke* *poke* *revives*

Greetings, all. I'm Connie. *waves* This is for those of you who have posted in the Chicago meetup thread, and have expressed interest in meeting up at one point or another. As people seem to check the threads only sparingly and we rarely come to a consensus about where/when to meet, virgletati suggested something else.

If you are interested in future xkcd meetups, you can PM me your e-mail address, and I will compile a list so we can actually communicate about meetups.

Sounds like we shouldn't be too ambitious past a monthly meeting for now, but this way, we'll finally be able to figure out where/when is best to meet and actually get somewhat of a crowd. (Given how big Chicago actually is, it's a shame our meetups have been so small so far.) You should only get a low amount of traffic from it, so I encourage you to try it out.

Also, of course, we'll keep posting in the thread about whatever meetup we decide on, so we won't leave anyone out of the loop. Literally. Pass this on to other people if you think they'd be interested! Thanks.

Hey

Who is up for an early Nov meet up downtown somewhere? Or perhaps a park in a suburb for a small hike?
