There's still time to sign up for the Assassin's Guild! PM me a codename and the name you'll be known by at the meetup to join.

WHY does this have to be scheduled on a day when it'll be sunny in La Push?

... You actually believe long-range forecasts?

Anyhoo, can we start some organisation, soonish? Maybe a list of arrival and departure time/day for everyone, so we can figure out who's available when for what. And a master list of phone numbers (cell, for anyone not local) to be guarded by someone who will be on hand for the whole thing. Y'know, planning. It helps things turn out nice.

Edit: wait a minute. I'm expecting a group of under-30s to spontaneously decide to organise? >.<

OKAY FOLKS, LISTEN UP

All confirmed attendees, kindly PM me with:
1) your contact info. Cell number, or landline number if you live in/near Seattle and don't have a cell/never turn it on. Also your real name, or whatever name you expect to be called by during the meetup.
2) Your expected arrival and departure times, and where you'll be sleeping (roughly, you can say "home in Renton"). As an example: I'll probably get to downtown Seattle Friday morning, arriving at the Days Inn Seattle Midtown after 3pm Friday, and leave Sunday afternoonish, checking out of the hotel Sunday morning.
3) Either PM me your emergency contact info (parents, partner, friend, whatever) or carry it with you at all times in an easy-to-find location, e.g., your wallet or back pocket. If you choose to carry it instead, let me know ("it'll be in my wallet/back pocket/hidden waistbelt") so we can find it in case of zombie attack (or any other medical emergency).

Kellsbells, can I ask you to hold a copy of this info as well, as a local contact? We'll need to make sure we don't forget anyone or leave people behind, since most of us won't know each other by sight (and some of us will likely be a bit shy about walking up to random strangers and saying "hey, are you an xkcder?", especially when that makes one sound rather strange to a normal citizen).

Edited edit: thanks, Zeroignite. I can collect the info, but I'd like a Seattle-ite to have a copy, too. Preferably a couple of them, just to be safe. (Yes, getting old makes one paranoid. It's only paranoia if they aren't out to get you. <.<)

I'm working on it. Tried calling sky high today, but apparently it was after business hours so I'm waiting for a callback. Kells and CVsoul are the main organizers here, but are currently pretty busy with finals and work, respectively. I'll volunteer for peopleorganizer/numberkeeper if you need me to, but they're the ones who have cars and know the area.

Hi, dragging myself out of the hole that is my finals-studying-frenzy for just long enough to check in here. (My final exams end Thursday, so I'll be able to function during the meetup, but not so well up until then). I'm PMing Poxic now with my personal info, and I'll keep a set of all the data she gathers. Hopefully we can actually make this stuff all work out. I'll also give Sky High a call tomorrow if nobody else gets hold of them first.

OKee poxic. PM'ing you!

ALSO WOOO I LEAVE IN A FEW DAYS!!!

Should there be a 4th thing added to the list? I added onto it about my penicillin dealie (open heart surgury so if I get any sort of dental injury where there is blood I have to take it so I carry it with me) and I have some wonkyness with my heart that would freak out any doctor if they didn't know it was my normal (but that's all in my medical ID card behind my license) maybe if there is something like that it should be added...even if like "im extreemly allergic to xyz and carry an epipen" or something like that.

Hey everybody. Just wanted to confirm I won't be here for this. I dawdled too long trying figure out a way to tell my family that wouldn't sound weird, but never could, and now it is too late (it turns out I work 3:30PM-10PM on Sat). Oh the joys of being 20 and living at home. I hopefully will see most of you at a future meetup. (And Amy, I will send you a postcard, I just need to find some place locally that actually sells the damn things)

Ain't that the truth. Or rather, living at home for the summer starting immediately before the meetup. And at least a few of us are always around, so you can for sure get into some kind of meetup sometime!

OK, slight change of plan: I am posting this on Poxic's behalf:

Rather than all the messy Private Message business, if you are definitely attending please fill in this form:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform ... bmROd1E6MQ

If you have already PM'd Poxic, you don't need to do both, but it will save some time if you could fill in the form too.

Postby Zeroignite » Tue Jun 08, 2010 2:05 am UTC

I just got off the phone with kells. It looks like Sky High won't be available until the late evening, but I don't see that as a huge issue unless people have to leave earlier for some reason. We intend to meet at Gas Works Park probably sometime in the late morning (Will have a firm time after feedback from you guys). From there, our options are numerous and flexible, and I kinda feel that they should remain fairly flexible to accommodate anything in the way of changing group mood or what we feel would be fun at the time. I am fairly sure that we can stay occupied with each other for quite a long time.

Mainly, I want assurance from everyone that they are in fact on board with the meetup. With so little time left, it seems like this thread is has too high a latency and too low a bandwidth to communicate effectively with this short of a time to go before Meetup. Who all has added themselves on the contact list? Are you actually easy to contact with the information you provided?

Poxic, you seem to be wanting to help organize this. I approve; you seem capable and responsible. I presume that you have access to the contact form? Who is on the list of "definitely going" but has not given you info?
I don't know how to get in touch with you. If you have my phone number and email you're more than welcome to call anytime so we can start making sure you're part of the planning process.

It's less than a week now! Hope to see you all there!

Okay, re: Sky High. I got a bit fed up with them being vague, so I drove over there today. One of the very nice guys gave me a tour and looked over the schedule for me. Currently their group registration is booked entirely for Saturday, which means we can't have the place to ourselves. However, we're welcome to register as individuals and come by whenever. It just means we will be sharing the space with some other folks, which doesn't trouble me particularly.

Last thing: If anyone under 18 plans on attending Sky High, get a signed waiver from your parents first, or be okay with one of your "parents" signing it.

The best location I have for convergence is the midtown seattle days inn, so that's where I'll be headed, unless something happens.

We're pretty available most of the time. Hit up me or one of the other locals by PM and we can probably do something! Keep in mind the locals are a much smaller group, so "meetups" are more like "small group hangin' out". But still fun!

Still %!*@# editing my damn pics. I get worn out after every dozen or so, and all I'm doing is deleting, resizing and renaming for the most part. I've farted around with the curves option on a couple of them to lighten them up, but that's the only other editing I've done.

Most pics are crap, at least the ones taken from the train window. A few will be added to the xkcd archive, a bunch more added to my Flickr page for friends/family. Once I'm into the actual meetup pics, those will be renamed, kept as is, and fired wholesale into the archive. Only a few will make it onto Flickr since most friends/family don't care about the meetup, only where a pic is interesting to them (good composition or I'm in it. Being my camera, neither happens often  ).

tl;dr: pics coming soonish.

Yeah, 25,000 politicians is probably too much so it's best to keep it at 3.

We're pretty available most of the time. Hit up me or one of the other locals by PM and we can probably do something! Keep in mind the locals are a much smaller group, so "meetups" are more like "small group hangin' out". But still fun!

what about us in portland or? we are just a short drive away...perhaps we could arrange something for portland folks as well?
portland does have some interesting things to do- and some fun places to go! group traveling in town is easier too, with the light rail. (if it's downtown, it's free...)
