Edit: a floating pagetopper, yay!

This really should have happenned last year. I was in Redmond the whole summer, dammit.

It is stupid too spend like half of my savings for a few days trip half across the globe to a place where you have already been. Or is it awesome? I sometimes confuse these words...

It's looking more and more like I'll be coming to this, now that I've discovered I can get there for about half of what I thought it would cost me. Still need to look into accommodations while there, though :)

I might still be in seattle then and I might not, I know I'll be in the area March 4th, so I might just still be there. Either way I'm making every possible effort to be there. The last Seattle meetup was a lot of fun and this looks to be several times more exciting.

Now, time to put on my srs face.

Sky High are slightly paranoid.

They require you to fill out this form if you are are under the age of 17 and/or do not have photo ID.

http://sea.jumpskyhigh.com/downloads/Li ... ington.pdf

It's pretty simple, but it's easier to fill out and get signed while your folks are around rather than when you get over here. :)

Too bad it's summer, or I'd expect you to wear the scarf so I know who you are!

Ooh speaking of...we should design tshirts or something. Or just all get xkcd tshirts, at least for the Saturday meet!

I was not there, unfortunately. :( Wish I'd known sooner.

In other news, I conveniently already have an XKCD shirt (the Just Shy one, appropriately). I am strongly in favor of everyone who has an easily identifiable shirt wearing one, but from my small amount of meet-up experience so far, I'm pretty easy to spot in a crowd. And I know most of your faces well enough that this shouldn't be a challenge. Or we could go with Amy's idea and properly design a collector's-item Seattle Meet-up 2010 T-Shirt. Either way, I'm terribly excited. :D

Oh, and I am somewhat proposing a geohashing adventure, pending doable coordinates at the time. Or just straight up geocaching (I've got a GPS, and several of us have experience). We did that at the last meet-up and I think it went swimmingly. Sky High Sports and Cupcake Royale (our two current suggestions) will both put us in proximity of approximately an asston of geocaches, so I think that could be an excellent addition to the plans.

Google Maps would say it better than me, but yes! It is directly between TWO cities both named Vancouver, actually. But We are just south of Vancouver, BC, where the Olympics are right now. It's like a 2-hour train ride away, if I'm not horribly mistaken.

Northwest corner of the USA. The Pacific Coast: Because otherwise America would have kept going.

But yeah. Google maps that shit.

Every year I try for at least one Big Dumb Adventure (BDA). This might be it for me. I live in Rhode Island so a random plane flight cross-country to see people I don't know seems like a crazy idea.....but life has been boring lately.

maybe I'll see you guys there!

Hey, not so random! My flight has me going Detroit -> Baltimore -> Seattle. Why that is the cheapest route, I don't know, but it is. So I basically backtrack what, about 1/3 of the country, to then go all the way across it again!

Whatever airline you're taking probably has a hub in Baltimore.

BTW, I'm definitely not coming :( Found out that my job lasts until June 18th, too late for me to make it, and I really can't justify taking just a weekend trip across the country.

I know you guys don't really know me (I barely ever even lurk these fora), but I'm thinking I'll come. And probably my brother too. I live in Tacoma, so it's not much of a trip for me. And besides, we all read xkcd religiously, so we already have like 700 in-jokes, right? Two xkcd readers are never complete strangers.

So if my sleep-deprived counting is working, Amy's list puts us at anywhere between 12 and 24 people coming. This is significantly more (and more exciting) than I had anticipated! :D And thus I am very pleased indeed. With this amount of people, we may benefit from some more formalized planning of just how this is going to be scheduled. Questions/suggestions/opinions/etc. are highly encouraged!

I AM SO PLEASED THIS IS INTERNATIONAL NOW. Everyone owes RoadieRich a hug.

Indeed. I actually did it for the big Meet-up of '07. That's how I got my title.

For me to do this again... I don't know. Probably if after this meet-up there was an epic roadtrip of doom to official meetup in the neighbouring thread (San Francisco) with lots of awesome people... But I guess it is just a dream.

Does wanting something make it happen?

Also I spent last summer in Redmond but didn't have chance to see kellsbells. I missed something important.
