Heads-up, very far in advance: MC Frontalot is playing at Harper's Ferry on Monday, Feb 8 at 8pm. 18+, $10, $12 at the door.

I went to his last show there (I think Sandry, floccin-long-name, and Sprocket were there too) and it was quite good. Strong recommendations.

I got that notice, too. Totally want to hit that shit.

Also also, if anyone likes the Slip, they're playing NYE at the Middle East. Though I guess folks maybe have new years plans already... does always seem like it's a five way choice kind of night. Hm.

Man, bite your tongue. MC Chris may be gimmick, but the Front is for real. He's just most known for his most gimmicky songs because that's what people go "hurr hurr, dorks lol" about, and musicians do have to pay rent.

My favorite nerdy rapper is my friend Monzy, but his stuff is very niche with a lot of in references to Computer Science and gangsta rap. But if you have a CS degree you might really enjoy it. He mostly just does it as a joke, and so I think he's only got like 4 songs that I heard through his blog.

"Drama in the PhD" post mp3
"Pimping Lemma" post mp3
"Kill Dash Nine" post mp3
"So Fucking Pimp" post YouTube video

Also posts where he talks about being interviewed on German TV and being on the cover of EE Times about the nerdcord scene.

Hey folks,

So the restaurant I work for is having a New Years Eve party, tickets are $10. Hors d'oeuvres are included, and there is a bar. I am most likely working the event. http://www.shabuyarestaurant.com/

When is the next Boston meetup? I missed the New Years event! I've not attended any XKCD meetups, but I'll attend anything with nerds, booze and Guitar Hero.

Well if you'll attend anything with nerds, you might check out http://www.meetup.com/NerdFunBoston/ while waiting for other things to be mentioned in this thread.
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

well a friend from highschool just spammed me with an invite to his bands concert, and he was an incredible drummer back then and figure I might as well go. anyone wanna join, I have never heard his band before writing this post, and so far I am digging it. here is a link to where you can listen. linky linky . 21+ sorry, 7 dollar cover.

Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Time: 11:35pm - 11:55pm
Location: Church of Boston
69 Kilmarnock Street

It's a bit in the future, I usually don't plan more than 48 hours in advance, but what the hey. Anyone up? not sure whats the deal with the time, I can see if thats just their set, or a typo or what.

I'm up for the Changing Clocks show on the 23rd. I like what I've heard on their Myspace page, plus its been a while since I've been to Church. It's a nice place! Small stage, but well suited to three- and foursomes, and the sound guy usually knows what he's doin'. The openers, The Bloodline and Zarni de Wet, sound like they'll be good too, so I'll show up around 9 or so to catch them as well.

Do you know for sure that Changing Clocks are only playing a 20 minute set (your post said 11:35pm - 11:55pm)? That'd be weird in general, and especially weird for the last band to play less than the standard 40ish minutes. With the doors at 8, it should start around 9, with the general schedule being:

Zarni de Wet: 9:15pm - 10:00pm
The Bloodline: 10:15pm - 11:00pm
Changing Clocks: 11:15pm - 12:00am

Unless it's a non-normal show, which could very well be the case!

I wanted the username floccinaucinihilipilification but it was too long.

Postby thanksbastards » Sat Feb 20, 2010 2:47 pm UTC

so I got some more info, updated a bit i guess. from the band:

Code: Select all

Doors at 8pm
8:45pm Zarni
9:45pm Changing Clocks
10:45pm The Bloodline

Also playing are our friends, two really great bands:
"The Bloodline" (if you like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Johnson, definitely worth checking out)
and "Zarni" (if you like quality songwriting, you will surely be interested!)

21+ and seven dollar cover. But we'll be giving some free CDs out and a lot of love.

I am going to Boston for the first time ever tonight to visit the Harvard management fund as part of a great program Seton hall has going... Being a southerner, this also happens to represent the farthest north I have ever been.. I will be needing a beer to celebrate this, however I do not know where to go (I will be staying near the train station that the acela gets off at.) Please advise.

Also, anyone want to "meetup" tonight

I wanted to go to harvard really bad as a kid, then I was a tool in middle school and lost my chances there, so :( I would like to see It or MIT before I die.

I'm busy tonight, but it sounds like you're staying near South Station. What I'd recommend is take the Red Line towards Alewife, and get off at the Harvard stop. Have a walk around Harvard Yard, then go to John Harvard's. Fantastic beer, great food, very reasonable prices. It can get a bit crowded at times, though.

Posting because...I might be making a quick long-weekend road trip out there. See...there is this rabbit I really want...there is a show in Spencer, MA on May 23rd...that is the same distance as me driving to where the person is in NY...but I figured maybe I could couchsurf for a few nights in Boston and meet some of you cool folks too? Or something? Maybe? Currently I would put this at a 25% chance of happening and it depends on if I can find transport for said rabbit to Ohio this coming weekend. And I don't have $$ for a hotel or something if I did the road trip route. But...I can couchsurf, right? Free hugs! :D

Dear MoveOn member,

We have an urgent request for you this afternoon.

During his campaign, Scott Brown made his pick-up truck a symbol. He claimed that he was a regular guy who would fight on behalf of everyday folks against big Wall Street banks.

But yesterday, Senator Brown showed his true colors. After taking almost $1 million from financial interests for his campaign1, he voted with every other Republican against Wall Street reform that would finally rein in the banks.2

So today, we want to give Senator Brown a new car that will fit in better when he's hanging out with his Wall Street buddies. That's why we're sending a limousine to his office in Boston this afternoon.

We need a big crowd to attract as much media attention as possible to Senator Brown's vote on behalf of the banks. Can you join us for a few minutes after work TODAY at 4:45 p.m. on New Sudbury St. near Cambridge St. in Boston?

A good crowd will make sure that Massachusetts voters know whose side Senator Brown is really on, so please join us today.

Thanks for all you do.

–Daniel, Matt, Amy, Nita, and the rest of the team

Attention most of Camberville: don't drink the water. Well, boil it first. Huge water leak, they're activating emergency water supplies which are untreated.

Note that everywhere except Cambridge is on this list of affected communities: http://www.mwra.com/updates/leak.html
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.
