Museum is at the south end, and St James is at the north end, according to Google maps. I usually approach from Wynyard, I forgot about Museum being there as well.

Cool... I had no idea where to look, and Google Maps wasn't giving me anything useful... found about a dozen Hyde Parks in the USA, but that's all... but I know how to find the train stations.

You didn't type in "Hyde Park, Sydney?" Got it first hit, though I guess I knew what I was looking for in terms of size, shape and streets around it.

Anyway, I think I'm good for the 6th.

Yeah, the 6th wouldn't coincide with any parties - we's all having them second week because a bunch of friends are gone the first week.

Now all I have to do is con my parents into letting me.

you had better be...

I think St. James is the better station to go to, as it's most likely more convenient to meet at a fairly prominent landmark, such as the large fountain.

Guys, I don't know about the 6th. It is a Sunday! I sometimes work on Sundays and I need monies.

It might not be an issue, but if I a) do have work and b) haven't had work the week before, I might have to pull out at little notice, especially since I can't work the day before for other reasons.

I've been ordered to make awesome cheesecake... isn't that reason enough to come?

And as for raining... we'll have to see when it gets a bit closer to the date if it is likely to be an issue. There are plenty of dry places we -could- go and hang out, but not really any undercover place we could go for a picnic that I know of.

Can has geohashing?

A couple of my other friends have discussed the possibility of geohashing, but we are generally too lazy to go anywhere out of the way, and it's usually out past richmond on one graticule, or off the coast/near newcastle in the other.

And now for the real business... I assume the plan for next Sunday is that we should all bring along some form(s) of food that we can share? I have been instructed to procure some cheesecake, and should do so. I may also find some other edible substance to bring along.

Whereabouts in Hyde Park (still the optimal location?) should we meet?

And has hermaj decided whether she will be able to grace us with her presence?

I'll probably be in Sydney for the whole weekend, so I might as well make the effort to pop by the Geohash site if I can.

I don't think we did... Specific time is good, but not as important, as not everyone will be able to get there simultaneously. We probably won't be traveling a huge distance from where we meet, so as long as we know we are meant to be near landmark X at approximately time Y we should be reasonably successful.

About 11 is probably a good time to meet if we want to hang out and get around to having some kind of lunch? What is the best landmark to congregate around?

What landmarks are there in Hyde park? From memory there is the War memorial, a chessboard, and the Squirtle fountain. Assuming, that is, that I can tell which one Hyde park is.

'Tis the one. Somewhere near the fountain is easiest, and should be right near St. James Railway Station for those of us catching the train in from other parts of Sydney or surrounding area.

It would be interesting to join you for geohashing, but unless it's somewhere relatively close to me, I probably wouldn't bother at this time of year (I will need to be at soccer from 1 'til 5).

I'm really annoyed that I didn't check the other day - the geohash worked out to pretty much the street I live in. Which is about how close it would have to be for me to succeed at it, but I won't let that stop me from trying. Or pretending to try. Or talking about pretending to try.

Yeah, geohashing is hard for me because it doesn't come at enough notice for me to pull out of a shift if I have one, and if I don't have one it's usually in the sea or in the mountains.
