Is this a sequence?

Someone at work has been asked to solve this sequence;

x, z, 7, 4, d, i

they guessed the next two characters were

-2, -9

These are apparently correct but we don't really know why.

Can anyone help with this please or is the person that presented this just being a douche? Thanks

Upon what basis did you choose -2 and -9? If you just picked completely at random, it's highly probable that the presenter is just making stuff up.
