Many interacting worlds

Postby Eebster the Great » Mon Jan 23, 2017 1:18 am UTC

I recently read about This theory that claims to reproduce quantum physics in the limit of many interacting classical worlds. Isn't this a local hidden variables theory?

It does not appear to be local.

So it's still spooky, but the spooky interactions are determined by the conditions of other worlds?

I'm not sure it's even very useful calling it a hidden variables theory. I've not yet read more than the abstract but it looks like it's moreorless just giving new names to the same objects (which shouldn't be surprising, this seems to ultimately be what most interpretations of qm debates boil down to, along with arguing about which objects are actually "real").

Like, essentially, to me, this seems to be pretty similar to saying "I can call the energy eigenstates of an unperturbed Hamiltonian different worlds and, provided they interact in the way standard perturbation theory says they should, I get the same answer as standard perturbation theory".

Also, at the point at which your worlds are interacting enough to produce qm, I'm not sure it's helpful to think of them as separate worlds
my pronouns are they
