You know what's awesome? Dressing up as pirate for halloween, thus sneaking in an extra "talk like a pirate" day.
Possibly my proudest moment on the fora.

I have a new box of markers! I got the 12 colors kind, which has gray and pink. (I keep wanting to spell it "grey" which in my mind describes a slightly cooler(as in hue... but I guess I like it better too.) color than "gray")

I went for a ride last night. Looks like it will be good for >125km/h. In first gear. Then I can use another 5 gears after that.

Awesome: my car.

Technically, it's crap. It's a 17 year old Vauxhall Astra with no power steering, ABS, air conditioning, anything you might expect to find in a modern car. It doesn't even have an alarm system. It can go about 80mph before it starts shaking itself to bits, the brakes are alarmingly soft, it can do 0 to 60 in 3.6 days, the speedometer over-reads by at least 20% and the fabric on the ceiling keeps falling down no matter what I do to keep it up.

But it's my car. It's freedom. I can go pretty much anywhere I want (at least in this country) and still be home in time for tea and crumpets. I can drive around aimlessly for miles and miles and miles without stopping, and I never get tired of it. It's a place I can be alone with my thoughts, and it can take me places I'd never even thought of visiting. When I sit behind the wheel, that car is as much a part of me as my hands are when I type this.

It's sublime.
Fair. Fair?!? That's communism talk!

While naps got an earlier mention, I feel the need to expand upon them in the following way:

Naps...

IN THE SUN.

Well, not the actual Sun. That'd be uncomfortable. But in the sunshine, you know. It feels great. I picked that little trick up from my cat (also awesome, also a repeat.)

Tea is so great. I should go by the local coffee place because they have awesome tea.

Also, I have wafer cookies. (and I am probably eventually going to eat the whole box because I opened them, and I am sort of diseased). There was also one cookie that was actually two cookies stuck together.

It's a pretty sweet set up alright. There's not really that many gatherings where you get to move around and interact with people as much. Dancing is pretty cool, I might eventually get to a point where my body doesn't rebel so strongly against efforts to move rhythmically or gracefully. Even when you move in halting, awkward motions in an effort to warm up like I do, it's still pretty fun.

I wish. I went on some drugs which make me excrete a percentage of the fat I ingest rather than absorb it. BUT they make me feel so awful when it goes through my system, that the thought of fatty food is making my stomach turn. So, they're actually turning my lack of willpower into some actual willpower.

So woo. I just have to convince myself to exercise and not snack so much and I'll be a skinny minny in no time.

My awesome for the day: I earned 41c in interest on my savings account. This is awesome y/y?

I was highly amused in computer repair class today. We have 8 computers, which we've learned to assemble, install Vista on, and some other things. Today our assignment included the task of setting a disk quota. The assignment specified 1MB as the limit, so that it'd be easy to exceed it to see what happens.

Four of the computers ended up unbootable or unusable.

Apparently Vista decided to apply that quota to all users, including administrators. And if you're way over your quota limit, it's impossible to log in. And that limit includes the user profiles and other junk that's already there that well exceeds 1MB. Oops.

Mine and another had a bonus fail. The video randomly cut out, and refused to come back. Tapping the keyboard and moving the mouse, occasionally the display would come back for half a second before disappearing again. So we hit the power button, which by default triggers a normal shutdown without prompting.

Turns out Vista had decided to start installing some updates. So during shutdown, the video comes back on, and we see "Windows is installing updates" followed immediately by "Windows is shutting down". Vista happily interrupts the update process to shut down.

...Without letting it clean up. Which means the registry is left in a mess, leading to a BSOD on boot, even in safe mode. Yay!

It gets better still: Even the recovery tools on the install CD impose the 1MB quota limit. So while a backup copy of the registry exists, the disk is considered full even after removing files, so I can't copy those backups to where they need to be. I could move them, but they're the only backup, so the system might end up completely hosed, if it's not already. So next week I'm going to have to use a Linux CD to bypass the quota and copy them.
(And then I'll explain why they really should be teaching how to use Linux, even if it is to fix Windows. >.>)
Even System Restore claims the disk is full now. I suspected the disk may have just died, but chkdsk reported no problems.

Oh, Vista...
