You knowwwwww a lot about such things.

I took it upon myself to do a little light pruning.
Those thorns are sharp. They Hurt! I pruned.

What else should I know about growing a stunted citrus forest?
Don't turn your back on them and bend over. That I know.

citrus trees need little maintenance as far as pruning goes, they are very forgiving. However I like mine to have an open structure, so I treat them like apple trees or peach trees when trimming, keeping branches growing away from the center, and keeping them from crossing each other. The main goal is to keep the fruit from touching the ground when growing, and to keep them from growing too tall (this typically means trimming the big sprouts that reach much taller than the tree itself, lemons are particularly known for doing this).

Any other specifics, message me, and I'll be happy to help.

Today I learned that my friend Catherine loves to hang out in the shower after I'm out of it, lapping the water from all the puddles

One day I intend to make a cardamom pistachio cream dessert of sorts. Probably pudding or mousse. I had something like it at an Indian restaurant and it was bloody fantastic, though terribly sweet. It was meant to be interleaved with bites of hot curry which was a delightful way to eat it. I can't curry anymore, so I wanna take the idea into a more Western style dessert.

One day when I have all the time in the world, of course.

My dear and esteemed Poxic, I obviously support you by default, and share you devotion to the Pistachio nut (particularly as it's one of the few nuts that doesn't try to kill me).

However, your introduction of cardamom crosses a line that can not be forgiven. After 9 months of forced-drinking cardamon coffee I am afraid I am repulsed by the hideous seed. Sorry. I think I have a repeating nightmare of the day after the US election, sitting in an office in Jordan being repeatedly served cardamon-laden Turkish coffee whilst watching Arabic news reports of arsewipe and his family crowing about their success. Think that was the ultimate aversion therapy. However, always happy to eat pistachios in any form.

My honourable and fine Jumble, I weep at the injustice that was brought against the noble cardamom seed, and that you were subject to the collateral damage. Perhaps I might suggest a saffron pistachio cream as a salve?

For your edification/inspiration, here's a New York Times article about the Saffron & Rose Ice Cream shop near the University of California, Los Angeles, campus. Enjoy.

Two quibbles: Westwood's nickname is "Tehrangeles," not "Little Tehran," and the opening statement that "On the eve last month of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, there was no parking to be had on Westwood Boulevard in Los Angeles" does not impress me, as in my experience there is almost never parking to be had on that part of Westwood Boulevard (Nowruz or no Nowruz). Which is one reason why I've never set foot in the shop. I've driven by it many, many times, though, which is why I thought of it.

Today I learned (well, yesterday) that when you replace a power supply on a computer you absolutely positively can not reuse the internal cables from your old power supply.

Alas, poor harddrive. I hardly knew you.

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure; maybe the cables offer too much or not enough resistance and more juice gets pumped to the drive? All I know is that using the old internal cables with the new power supply fried my harddrive and possibly some other stuff. I'm not the only one that learned this the hard way. Computer won't even post to bios with a new harddrive. FML.

Yeah I would have expected internal power cables to be interchangeable. Not enough resistance would make sense.

Really? I would only have expected them to work if the PSU was the same make and model, just a higher wattage. And maybe not even then.

They haven't standardized those yet.

A Reddit thread i found says it's non-standard pinouts on the PSU end - so that a component that was expecting say 5V might get 12V instead.

I actually "downgraded" in the sense that I went from a (junk) Corsair 750 watt that a friend provided to a SeaSonic 620 watt. My whole setup only requires 400 watts, supposedly, so I figured 620 would be more than enough. Damn cables.

So basically, everything is standardized except the power cable voltage?

The ends of the cables that plug into components needing power are standardized. The ends that plug into the PSU are not (although they may use physically compatible connectors).

Alright, so how do I tell if my MB still works? It turns on and everything, but I can't get it to get to bios. Tried connecting straight to the hdmi port instead of graphics card, tried with graphics card uninstalled, tried without hooked up to optical or hdd. I'm... not very optimistic, and it doesn't make sense since the MB was NOT connected with the old internal cables since the old PSU was semi-modular and had the MB cables as part of it.

Well, since you need it...

Spoiler:
Coleoptera, the scientific name for beetles, has the etymology of "koleos" (sheath) and "pteron" (wing). "Koleos", in modern Greek, also happens to be a vulgar term for "vagina". "Vagina" itself being the Latin word for "sheath" and brought in to English as a euphemism (the actual English word for vagina is the swear word). Of course, this doesn't stop the French from naming one of their cars the "Koleos", which seems to be a theme in cars.

Well, this is unpleasant.

Today, when I tried to look up the lyrics of "The Happy Wanderer (My Knapsack on My Back)"--the "Valderi, valdera" chorus of which is supposed to sound like a blackbird's song--I learned that there's a strong chance that this innocent little tune was written by the Butcher of Crete. Apparently his sister directed this choir of WWII orphans, which popularlized the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_QJi7wVENE

Here's the Wikipedia article:

Does anybody besides that one anonymous Wikipedia editor make the claim that the composer and the Navy general are the same man? The version of the article that makes this claim has only been up a week or two, but the usual response on Wikipedia of that kind of language "there are reasons to believe" are "what reasons?" and "citation needed".

Good points. Müller/Möller is a pretty common German surname: the latter is the family name of my next door neighbors, actually. I suppose a little more skepticism on my part would be in order.

Edith Möller did proudly claim to be the sister of the composer of this piece, according to a 1954 issue of Billboard magazine. I'm not sure she would have been so proudly claiming that in 1954 if he had been executed by firing squad in 1947 for crimes against humanity.

Hmmm...

Further research, even with my non-existent German skills, reveals that Friedrich-Wilhelm Müller (1897-1947) and Friedrich Wilhem Möller (1911-1993) are clearly not the same person. Thanks for nudging me to look deeper, DavidSh.

Today I learned that I'm too gullible!

On Sunday I learned that our in-game kinship is down one officer. He used to have a pet tan sheep with him in-game, so many people brought theirs to the memorial service on Weathertop:

ScreenShot00498 Memorial service for Ianolo.jpg

He said something like: "Right, I'm off to Africa. I'll see you lovely people later." He logged off. He went. That happened.

I guess someone saw all that expensive medicine and medical equipment and thought: "If they can raise funds to buy that for us they can raise funds to pay a ransom."

What a bunch of arseholes.
Oh, Willie McBride, it was all done in vain.

Today I learned about a really admirable and inspiring human being, who made a positive difference in the lives of many. (A few of whom were incredible arseholes, but that just makes him more incredibly admirable and inspiring.)
