Well I come from Orbiter-Forum, thats where I got the link from.

I love the comics and I can relate to them in so many ways.
I am currently studying Engineering at USQ (on campus).

I read alot, and post rarely. Maybe I might learn something new :D

Hello,

I saw a thread about flying on Mars, and since I did some research on that once upon a time, I thought I should pop in and comment.

At any rate, I'm 25 ish, I work as an Aircraft Design Engineer for a company doing things, which is about as thorough as I'm permitted to be in describing my job. No, it's not as exciting as all that deliberate vagueness makes it sound. I also am very involved in martial arts, video-gaming, and am working on learning to draw and speak latin.

At some point I want one of these:

Spoiler:

Though I hope mine won't crash as violently as his does (hello automated stability systems, good bye crashing horribly) and there must be some kind of anti gerbilling system to make stop distances reasonable...

And one of these:

Nice to meetcha.

I'm Tim, I like crumpets and noodles <3. I'm a film student (bum), gonna study audio engineering after my degree. I like film -- watching them through the night with frequent tea and LAN game breaks preferably -- like most other people. Music is cool; am a self proclaimed metal head, rocker, and electronica fan -- with a bit of the old Ludwig Van, Chopin and Stravinsky on the side if you please. No, I am not a polar bear, but polar bears with blue tongues are awesome. If you want a peek at my outlook on life http://www.xkcd.com/1/.
See you around :D.

Greetz,

Been reading the comic for a while and saw a couple vids of the Randal Munrow. He talked about some interesting stuff behind the scenes so I'm here looking for more humor and pseudo knowledgeable discussion of the important and the trivial.

My geek Cred:
Played Zork, Helped my Dad type in the code for Pitfall from a book on our C64.
Had a subscription to Nintendo power the first year it came out.
Home schooled (in a good way).
Have beaten Super Mario Brothers without losing a life (that was a worthwhile couple of weeks trying for that).
Programmed in BASIC (not that visual basic)
Thought windows was a fad.
Co-Creator of a Neverwinter Nights world (Ale Storm's Lord of the rings PvP).
Have a greater number of books read than movies watched.
Enjoyed School.

..and that's the non-embarrassing stuff.

I figure after posting a few things in here, I should really get around to my intro.

I'm 23, in the Army as a Satellite Communications Operator, but that's only my day job. From the time I get off, till I get back to work, I'm an engineer and machinist. I design and build things that go click, wizz, whir, bang, boom, tick, tock and vroom. If you ever need a design for something, a part, whatever, I can probably draw up the machining files for whatever kind of CNC machine your local shop has. I'm a self-proclaimed Steampunk and I have a slightly unhealthy obsession for gears and steam engines.

I found this place after reading the comic from start to finish and then noticing the forum on the main page. I've never been one for inane conversation simply for the sake of speaking, and this board seems like a perfect fit for my particular combination of eccentricities.

I look forward to many a posts with you all.

I suppose if everyone's doing it, I may as well too.

My name's Joe, and I'm from a rather large college in Colorado that I'd rather not identify.

Currently 19, and majoring in Electrical Engineering.

Discovered XKCD from the famous sudo() strip, have been hooked ever since. I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a strip.

Pretty nerdy by most standards, but I suppose not so much by the standards of this forum. Mainly because the free time I have I usually waste watching movies and old TV shows.

I figure I'll join and see what i can get out of this forum. I kinda/sorta want to learn vi (which i'm working on), and perhaps a programming language (which i am not). We'll see.

Hey guys. My name is Bradley and I graduated recently from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Mathematics. Right now I am continuing my education at Cal Poly in the credential program to become a high school math teacher. We do not talk about much math anymore in my classes, so I thought I could come on here to retain my math-ness.

Other than math, I love music of all types. I think hip-hop, indie rock and metal are my three favorite genres, but I also love jazz and 60s/70s rock. I enjoy movies as well. I try to support the local indie theatre as much as possible, but I am still a sucker for big budget action films from time to time. I am a bit of reader too. I am working of Dostoyevsky's Notes from Underground, but finding it difficult to recently considering all of my post-baccalaureate work consists of reading.

I discovered this site after a friend of mine told me about it, and now I make it a habit to visit at least once every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Just today I asked myself "I wonder if there is such a thing as a good math forum". Lo and behold, I remembered these forums. So here I am. Hope to discuss much.

Hey guys, i'm Matt, 19, and i'm a sophomore at Dartmouth College. I'm pretty interested in math and linguistics (though not too knowledgeable about ling), and this forum seems to be a pretty good place to discuss both.

Not to mention, xkcd is fantastic.

And just to get things started: Australia is clearly the biggest sporting nation in the world, marking books is wrong and god exists - he's retired but his son plays for Geelong:P

Hello I am David. Actually my account was created back in July but I didn't post until now.

I was a very indecisive and shy person. For example, after I created the account I asked myself, "should I really engage in discussions?", "what if I say something stupid?", "what if I annoy other people?", ... etc. After a few days, I more or less forgot about this place altogether. Until a few days ago, I read a slashdot post and it had a reference to xkcd, so I was reminded about this place and my account.

My indecisiveness is also reflected on the way I post in a forum. Apart from worrying about things above, I tend to read and reread the stickies/warnings/rules to make sure I don't violate anything. At the end, either I don't make my post at all, or the topic becomes outdated.

Overall I joined this place for several reasons. First I like the webcomic and I want to see what other people think. Second, I spotted a math forum and a computer science forum here, which I hope I can learn from, as well as contribute to (especially math). Third, I want to learn about people. They seem to be doing a lot of interesting things that I have no clue about. Fourth, I want to practice loosing up a bit here so I can communicate at normal speed. I don't want to think or worry too much when I post.

'Lo, I'm Johannes. Live in Sweden. I am known (or possibly quite unknown) on various places around the tubes as Lord Bamse, but I felt the time has come for some fresh air. I am a great fan of the comic (surprise!) and have been lurking here for a couple of months. I feel the time has finally come to make myself known.

My primary interests are... quite a lot of things, which complicates my project of getting myself an education. Computer games, books, music, all the obvious stuff. I sometimes indulge in some pnp roleplaying, when I find people who share my sin. I am intellectually and scientifically inclined, but have mostly surface knowledge of hard stuff like physics.

If I fail to realise my vision to become a professional musician (not unlikely), I will probably try for something scientificcy and/or computerrelated instead.

From my experience, no one actually reads this thread. Still...

I had to sign up. I had to. I have freakouts once a month over how disturbingly accurate xkcd predicts my life, so I had to sign up just to see if anyone else has these existential moments too.

Anyway, I
 Am an actuarial science major (which substitutes for math major and earns me a nerd point right there)
 Live in Des Moines
 have met a significant portion on the Internet (have not dated a girl from the internet... YET)
 cannot program to save my life. Closest I ever do is write a capital budgeting spreadsheet on Excel (and I can do these quite well after 2 years)
 Play ridiculous amounts of ridiculous music. http://www.myspace.com/armandtanzarian
 Make funny videos about making ridiculous amounts of ridiculous music. http://www.youtube.com/armandtanzarian

That's all I got. Maybe except for the fact I tried petitioning unsuccessfully for a ballpit to be built in my house.

Hello to the fora.

I'm Laura. I'm 29 and a director/technical director at one of the local TV stations here in Rhode Island. I tend to register as very geeky when around "normal" folk, but not quite as much when in 100% geek groups. I read a lot, watch more TV than is probably healthy, knit frequently (usually while reading or watching TV), like messing around with my camera, and should really go geocaching more frequently since I really enjoy it. I've been blogging since '02, not that the blog is all that exciting, I mostly use it as a way to remember things for myself.

So, hi and I'm gonna go poke around this place a bit more.

Me: I enjoy Intelligent discussion, Books, Movies(And TV shows), Food, Health and Fitness, Art, Music, and xkcd! (For some reason I think I may fit in here. :P )

In short, long time xkcd fan, and shy.

I love the forum, and hope to become a active part of it.

I've always loved math, and I'm looking forward to getting to the courses the force you to get comfortable with the epsilon thingy. I tend to have bursts of loquaciousness (I can't spell) and I mostly lurk in fora (here and nationstates general).
