I didn't post here first. That clearly means that I'm particularly evil. Or I just didn't read the rules. I try to follow the rules pretty carefully usually, but this is what happens when one assumes. Ignorance of the law is no excuse however.

Anyhow, you can call me whatever you like, although most people stick with some variant of wildhalcyon. I'm 26, and have a EE background, but mostly I'm into computing and math.

Nothing exciting yet, but who knows, maybe someday...

Good evening. I am, I think, a 19 year old female person who nominally studies physics. In fact, I like physics quite a lot. I also like poi, trampolining, sci-fi novels, music of a gothy or metally persuasion, cheese toasties and cider.
I come from Bristol, UK, though I mainly live in Oxford these days.
I only discovered the wonderfulness of xkcd a few weeks ago, but since then have read every single one  .

Hello

I am Peter Melse. generally unavailable, occasionally neurotic, I host oboe-comics.com on a glorious Linux router, which is located in my obligatory parent's basement. I go to college, (computer systems technology) read slashdot, and occasionally sleep. I've seen the sun for two decades, though it is generally avoided due to interesting medication.

future goals include a 59000 character post, and forcing ubuntu on the masses,

Hello all, Derek Jansen. College student, Cincinnati Ohio. Right now I should be doing a paper but meh. Thus ends my required intro post.

Edit: Also, if someone with power could do so, I didn't read carefully my first registration, so if you could delete the botched account Phlanx it would be nice.

Ahoy there, well I'm Joe, 19 and from England. I've been reading xkcd forever now, and only properly realised that a xkcd forum exists so.. here I am.

Umm, I'm currently on a gap year at the moment, with the intention of going Uni next year to do Computer Science - yay. Oh and I love waffles.

Well my name is A... eh, for the sake of not fucking people's shit up with pronunciation, let's just say Andrew - it's similar enough. I'm 19, from Ljubljana, Slovenia (bet you don't have any other Slovenes here yet, ha!), and I am a student of the English language and literature at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana.

My main interest is music. Not so much the making of (being much too lazy to start properly learning an instrument), but rather the 'listening to' and 'thinking about' parts. This is the topic I'll probably spend the most time writing about during my stay here. Despite the aforementioned laziness I do (try to) play and am self-taught at the guitar, sitar and a bit of keyboards.
Other interests worth mentioning include linguistics (also one of my reasons for joining this message board, I might add), movies, billiards and ... y'know. Stuff.

Being a non-native English speaker I try to (and have been trying to for quite some time now) seize every opportunity to improve my English beyond the level of a second language - for the purposes of my education and my own interest - and I have a feeling that joining this message board will definitely contribute to this cause.

Also, does anyone know where that image in my avatar came from? I've had it on my hard drive for ages and I can't seem to recall where I got it from. Seemed an appropriate avatar, though.

Hi, my name is tine (german short form of Christine). I'm 24 years old and have been passionately reading xkcd and this forum for quite a while now. I love xkcd to pieces. It's just great, really. So witty and surprising and funny and wise and poetic and geeky and all. Love it. Totally.
Today I decided that it's about time I joined the community. Because I like this community very much, too. It's geeky. I like geeky.

At the moment I'm a student of educational science, psychology and philosophy (gonna be mistress, uh, master roughly a year from now). I normally talk very little (I'm just so exited right now O.O) and take pride in my genuinely nerdy nature. I'm really friendly though, as long as I don't have to deal with gnomes (aka 'children', they freak me out, I'll educate adults when I'm all grown up) or dumb, ignorant, narrow minded people. Crowds make me duck and cover.
I like to use brackets when I type, would hit Alan Rickman and Gustav Mahler, listen to MCR when I'm in a good mood/Suzanne Vega when I have a bad day, I like slashes, too, physics, philosophy, 'Perfume' by P. Süskind and 'Brother of Sleep' by R. Schneider. I play the guitar (badly) and write novels as well as short stories (short like in 'not long'). When I'm all grown up I'm gonna be a famous writer. Probably. Or not.

Well... that's it for now. Thanks for reading. Later 'n buh-buy.

Hello all, I'm Cytoplasm, but you can call me Cy for short. I am interested in DNA, a certain guy from the Netherlands, and variety of other activities. I play the cello and I love reading. I live west of the mighty Mississip' con queso. I speak some Spanish and not very much Dutch (obviously English). I am a religious person and Roman Catholic. Though I do know a lot about the Mormon religion so don't be hating on them.
I work at a radio station, I write poetry, I’m one of those “amateur grammar Nazis” and still depend on Microsoft Word to help me put. What else? I am not strong in mathematics. Don’t quiz me, please.
I can’t remember how I ran into xkcd exactly, though I think I randomly discovered it through a Google search.

I hope I didn’t blab too much.

Tot ziens.

woohoo... intro post.

i'm hunter. 14 years old, male (though, most people i first meet tend to think i'm female...) i've got really long hair <obvious jokes about pubic hair here /> i do a lot of python programming, and some web design, but it's all hidiously (<-- that isn't spelled right, firefox's spellchecker doesn't seem to be working.) ugly. i read a lot, if i find a book i like. i like math quite a bit. i'm definitely almost failing english i (if you haven't been able to tell from the fail structure of this "paragraph".) i'm from the eastern us. chapel hill, north carolina to be specific (no, i don't care if someone starts stalking me now... i really don't) i'ma linux nerd/geek/otherWord. i barely play any computer games (even if i were running windows, i still wouldn't), i play nethack some, and doom a lot (doom 1 and 2, not the crappy new doom 3) i'm really just typing so much to avoid talking to one of my friends who's bugging the hell out of me, and to avoid doing homework.

belial, you aren't the same belial from the zdoom forums are you? (i just looked up belial, and i've now learned it's some demon or something, so probably not)

i'm not sure where i came across xkcd, i think it was in like, quakenet/#php, (if any of you have ever been in that channel, it isn't about php, it's about a bunch of php nerds talking about stuff, and then answering questions when they're asked) i don't frequent quakenet much anymore, as the people i talked to on quakenet migrated to oftc because it doesn't netsplit 5 times daily, and some of the people in quakenet/#php were being asses... i'm abzde on oftc tho, and foonetic, if i feel like having a conversation.

i'm also a huge red sox fan. they're going to win the world series by the way.

(do i win the longest intro post award?)

Hi, my name is Chelle, I'm from Australia, No I don't say G'day and we really don't ride kangaroos to school. (just to clear up a few misconceptions I've heard some Americans have, and i really am trying not to sound bitchy so i thought I'd better add that i doubt anyone who reads this comic would harbour those said misconceptions.) I'm 16. And that sums me up.

My friend linked me to one part of xkcd to prove a point and since then i've been hooked, partly because it in ways makes me examine myself and partly because I am afraid of raptors, for weeks after watching Jurrasic (yep that's definitly not looking like i spelt it right) Park i had nightmares where they chased me and I was paranoid that eventually, they would catch me. Which thankfully i have over come as well as my fear of getting my shoelaces trapped in the bottom bit of escalators... ok so admitdly i'm still working on that one but one day I wont be afraid of anything.

What else do I like about the comic... hmmm. Basically things that make me laugh appeal to me, and i think partly it's because when you read each one it feels like you're being let into an inside joke.

So that's me, don't know if i will ever post again, just thought it would be nice to state my existance.

So catch.

Hello. I don't normally use forums, although I have visited many. We'll see how this one goes.

I'm 15 and male. I don't talk a lot, but I think a lot, and I type a lot. I value solitude, introspection, and witty jokes. My MBTI personality type is INTP, for those who care. I was born in Russia, but live in Michigan. Life is quite dull here.

I enjoy xkcd because I find that I'm able to relate to it.

My interests are many. I aspire to be a programmer, and am currently experimenting with C++. Graphic design is my secondary source of stimulation. Engineering, photography, drawing, math, physics, 3D modelling, audio, language, comedy, the stock market, and wilderness survival are areas that I have taken interest in at one time or another.

Organization and motivation are NOT my strong points.

I put a lot of thought into very short forum posts.

In my search for fora to frequent, I've finally given in to the temptation, and signed up for the XKCD forums.

I hail from the frozen north, also known as Soviet Cannuckistan. My previous forum experience includes a long standing presence on the clanbob forums. I'm a recent grad of UW, and currently work in tech support. yay.

About me in meatspace. I'm trans, or if that's too much, lets just stick with female. That's generally good enough for most people.

I've lurked a while, and will probably continue to lurk even more. I just get bored at work, and like having other places to forum whore. At least here, I'm not prevented from posting.

See you in the forums.

Hello, I'm here mainly to read but I figured I may as well create and account should I ever feel inclined to post something.

My name is Matt, and I truly enjoy reading discussions invovling physics and mathematics, however only when the topics are informed. I've found many of the discussions here to be quite acceptable and I hope to continue to enjoy absorbing the information, which hopefully will continue to be thrown around here. As for what I could contribute... I doubt much at all to be honest. I just mainly wanted to show my appreciation for providing a less formal environment for discussing more intellectual topics with the reduced hassle of weeding through the annoying bickering that is found in most fora.

My name is Ben, I'm 19, in college, currently studying (and for the most part, failing at) physics. My area of interest is astronomy, but I have a long way to go before I get there, assuming I make it at all.

I recently discovered XKCD through a friend at another forum/website I frequent, and I decided to join these forums on a whim today. I don't know how often I'll post, if I do at all, but at the very least this seems like an interesting place to lurk.

I'm also quite fond of watching and making AMVs and go by the same name there that I do here.

Anywho, that's me, hopefully something good'll come of this...
