Hello!!;
I'm Hakadosh(which obviously isn't my real name); //.. and i'm 18;
i'm an engineering (naval architecture, to be precise) student;

about me.. i'm just another computer geek, also interested in robotics.. and also image processing..
i spend most of my time tinkering around my linux box..
and i'm also into quantum mechanics(but haven't been too deep into it..)
also, i dream of making an underwater city like that of the 'gungans' in phantom menace(star wars);

i try to live by the epicurean philosophy.. minus the fact that i believe in God(an omnipresent(like the old 'ether') force, that acts via particles called 'godzillons'(which can be broken down into godons(+ charge) and zillons(- charge)) (*it's massless)) (i haven't been successfully able to detect antigodzillons.. any help will be appreciated)..

also, i love science fiction.. and even though i haven't read a single book by isaac asimov, i'm a great fan of his..

i guess, that's a lot of stuff abt myself.. i hate talking abt myself.. so
.. may the source be with you..

edit: i think i overused "also".. sorry, if it caused anybody any discomfort..

Sorry but I just had to :)

Anyway, you haven't read Asimov but like him? Go read "I, Robot" or "Foundation" right this very instant!
If you like quantum mechanics I recommend "Quantum ElectroDynamics" by Feynman. My university library had this and it was quite interesting (even to me who's terrible at physics)

Hey, I'm new here!

I'm a 20 year old guy currently in the UK (not that that's likely to change anytime soon but whatever). In my 2nd year of uni hoping to finish a masters degree in physics. Enjoyed the comic for a while now, thought I'd join the forums and see what all the fuss was about.

EDIT: hmm, why can I not see the free as in destitute forum?

memberlist.php?mode=group&g=7361 ... it says "This is an open group, members can apply to join." ... not sure, do you see an apply button or something? Or, as thefiddler is the owner, I suppose you could PN her: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1450

/edit: I found a posting that explains it: "Go to the UCP>Usergroups, select The Truly Free, choose "Join Selected", and click submit."

Well, there is one thread in there you can see. Or, well, you can see the title. Which I have on two separate occasions misread as "Jesus is a handsome and intelligent man who smells nice" without further questions.

What do they actually do in there, and is a membership desirable?

Hey, I've been reading xkcd for a while, but just joined the forums. It took me longer than it should have (both to join and to find the introduction thread). I'm a 29 year old woman living in the middle Atlantic region. I'm a non-math and non-computer science person, so I don't get all the jokes here, but I still love the comic, and I've found that I've learned a lot just by reading it. I was a music major in undergrad, and I'm looking to go back to school for library and information science. I don't know if I'll be on here much, but it's great to finally post. (I couldn't resist posting in the "friends" thread.) Well, I guess that's all for now. :D

Hello, I'm new. I like xkcd. I've recently moved countries, from America back to England, and I am finishing up school in England. It's going okay. I'm probably going to university to do psychology next year or the year after. I play tennis a bit, I used to be better than I am now, and I am eating some toast. I am not brilliant at introductions. So, hello.

Hi, my name isn't important. My age is also unimportant. I come from the internet, 4chan to be specific. I've been a fan of the webcomic for a while and decided to make an account when I started looking at the forums. (beyond the comic forum) I'm a big science nerd, but I'm trying to learn programming too. I think I covered all the bases, tell me if I missed something. (I'm not used to these introductions)

I'm Bluewink, 24 and a physics teacher in grades 12 and 13 (in cégep, for those of you who might know the school system in Québec).

I've unfortunately become addicted to the xkcd fora and need to regain a bit of my life for the end of the semester... :S

well, I just joined, and I'm already scares to go back. oh, and that "jesse" thing is actually a subforum dedicated to singing Jesse's praises.

It works pretty much exactly how you would imagine an unmoderated subforum to work: off-topic, juvenile, and actually rather fun to read through.

I say join just to see the madness that lies beneath the surface of all the people you respect in the forum at large.

I think my ability to read FaiD (or /FaiD/, but not /47/ - it might be /FourSeven/ or /FS/, just not /47/) has something to do with its similarity (in my opinion) to the /FG/ of '07, and from what I've gleaned from old threads, the /G/ of '06.

Not much similarity, mind. But enough.

Ok I was scared of posting here because i think the last reply is from 2007, but the newbie guide said so.

Hi, i´m not a bot? I live in Argentina, I´ve been a lurker for a long time, been reading xkcd for even longer and thought it was time to join the forum.

I hope this is enough to prove im real. Though maybe i´m just a really cool, turing-test passing super computer, or a figment of this guy´s imagination. Whatever
