My body is strange.

If I have a headache it means I don't have enough of:
Caffeine,
Food,
or Water.
(with sleep being a distant entry, but i rarely hit the point where i'm low enough on sleep to give me a headache.)

However.. It's stopped deciding to tell me which of these it needs other than the headache. I don't get hungry when I'm low on food, and unless I notice how dry my lips/mouth are, I don't really feel thirsty. (Though, it's more dehydration than pure thirst.)

The only time it REALLY sucks is like "Headache, okay.. meh. I ate a little while ago.. guess I'll eat a little more. -eats some- ... nope, that wasn't it. ... fuck, I haven't had caffeine yet today. -ends up throwing out second half of meal, goes to find energy drink-"

.. yup. I should be in bed.

If someone tries to mug you, and you beat them up and take their money, is it morally acceptable?

Beating them up and leaving them (no taking of money) - yes.
Taking their money afterwards? I don't know. I probably wouldn't do it.

It's only moral if you don't feel guilty about it. Morality is subjective.

It's certainly just, although if you get caught the authorities wouldn't think so. Personally I'd feel bad for the guy. I mean, he's probably way below the poverty line, and you're gonna take his, what, 5 bucks? I wouldn't hold it against you for doing it though. I mean, it makes sense.

I wouldn't consider it strictly moral, but I don't think I would feel guilty about doing it. Which maybe makes it moral, I guess. Well, morality isn't a binary choice as I see it, so this would rate quite low on the morality scale, but not low enough that I'd be entirely comfortable calling it immoral.

It would be acting in accordance to the guidelines set down by the one who initiated the interaction. That is to say, there was a mugger who decided might made right, and tried to enforce those rules on you. If you accept those rules, and then display that you have more might than he does, I wouldn't consider it to be a moral breach.

Well the thing is, he obviously accepts that might makes right but that doesn't mean that you do. He probably wouldn't feel unfairly treated if you beat him up and took his money since that's the way things work, in his view. The question is whether or not you think revenge is okay or necessary in this case. I wouldn't take his money, if it were me.

In that case, is it morally correct, then, to take the money that was already once stolen? I guess that, as long as we're all committing atrocities at each others' expense, we might as well profit from it.

It causes no additional harm to the original victim to redistribute his former wealth, and it provides anecdotal evidence to the mugger in support of "crime doesn't pay". I think it's actually -more- morally correct to loot the mugger after finishing with him.

Mugging someone does not necessarily mean they are poor. Most of the people doing this kind of thing will be wanting to use the money for a drug addiction or similar, not to feed their starving family. Given how much such things can cost, it's not out of the question for them to have some other, possibly illicitly gained, money on them.

As for the moral issues with regards to stealing something that has already been stolen... I can see a certain amount of justice in it, but I don't think it necessarily makes it good, or right. You are simply stooping to their level and justifying their original action by replicating it, even if you feel you are somewhat justified to do so.

EDIT: ninja'd by Torvaun. I disagree... depending on what you do with the money. Simply saying that the mugger stole it originally, so you should steal it off them for 'justice' is just as bad as the original crime. And it has just as little justification. Returning the money to the person who had it taken, or at least attempting to, would be the only way that taking the mugger's money could be considered 'good', imo.
