It most definitely is not drysuit weather.

Spoilered for unbearable smugness.

I've broken the week barrier, and - this is the good bit - that included going to the pub, drinking beer with friends who were smoking and I didn't cave!

Or maybe I'm just not that picky, I dunno.

Part of it was "Oh wow the first season is cool" and "This is what we get now??". I heard the creators wanted to start entire new storylines for the second season, which would have been good. But because they kept recycling the characters and making them do things out of character, it was just... dumb.

I saw it with Tim Curry in the lead. Along with the guy who played the father in Two of a Kind but I've no idea if he's famous for anything else. Pretty weird line-up, but yes, pretty awesome.

Quiet you. You're in mid-winter and you're complaining that it's as cold as 9C? Try spending a winter up here, where it's always between about 0 and 4C, but never cold enough for snow.

Trade you. You can keep the 90+ degree weather and humidity so high breathing is almost impossible because you're too busy drowning. I'll take the hand-immobilizing cold. I'll even take 9 in Fahrenheit over 90+ in the same scale. (That's 32+ for you non-convertin' in yer head types)

Better than hitting -15 for highs every couple weeks or so.

Also, at least the radio stations are occasionally interrupting playing Miley Cyrus with a Michael Jackson song or two before launching right back into Miley right now.

This. I can live with 90+ degree heat, but my brother, father, and cousin, who all work in construction? Not so much.

FT: If I unfocus my eyes and stare at nothing, normally I can refocus instantly. If I'm wearing contacts, though, they stay blurry for a good five or ten seconds after I start trying to focus again.

I can't tell if I'm causing the lenses to become slightly detached, or if my biological lenses are just slow to readjust to the artificial help.

The fact that it doesn't happen when I'm wearing glasses would seem to put the lie to the latter.

Throwing my $0.02 into this temp discussion.

Winters where I am average around 0 °F (-18°C) and summers here average 83°F (29°C). And to be fair to all of you, I'm comfortable in all of it. I wear sandals year round. More often than not you can find me wearing shorts year round. I will grill outside on my charcoal grill year round. When I have my way (when the roommates don't complain...) I have the thermostate set at 50°F ( 10°C) in winter and in summer I refuse to use the A/C, even when it's 96°F (35°C) and about 80% humidity. (That was this past tuesday, and you could find me laying outside reading my book)

As for actually contributing to the eye portion of the discussion...I wear glasses. I honestly got them because I look better in them. My eyes are like 20/25 or so, and I used the glasses only for reading at distances. However, since I've had the glasses my eyes have become dependant on them.

I used to have this too, but could never figure out why. Because I don't think unfocusssing your eyes changes the shape of your cornea even in the slightest, so there's no reason for the contacts to come loose.

Oh hmm. I wonder if it's to do with your eyes drying out, now that I think about it.

It could be that your contacts are not the right size (contacts come in different sizes to better fit your eye curvature) and with your keeping your eyes open, the combination of the movement, drying out, and ill-fitting curvature causes your contacts to move a bit until you blink enough to bring them back to its correct position.

Hmm. Walking is a hell of a lot harder than I remember.
People wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.

I had an embarassment cascade today.

That's my term for when you remember doing something embarassing and try to think of something else. But instead of thinking of something unrelated, you're reminded of something else that was also embarassing. Suddenly you're hit with a flood of every embarassing and awkward or stupid thing you've done for the past decade or so. And then the combined embarassment and awkwardness renders you mostly unable to function for some time (with some aftershocks of embarassment as you get reminded of having the cascade in the first place).
