Damn, couple of months in the making and we get DDoS'd on opening. Hosts can't mitigate it fully yet since part their bot net is on their network, which needs to be investigated. Peaking over 1 Gbps worth of syn flood, UDP flood, and extra crap... someone is pretty determined =[
Sigh, some people are dicks.

So, I've had a bundle of e-mails through to my defunct hotmail account which are password/username reminders for Neopets, a website I'm sure I lied about my age to get into when I was 12. I assume some kid does not know their own e-mail address and keeps entering mine. Congratulations, kid.

Anyways, I decided to take a small trek down memory lane and see how things are different now.

Yeah, this place seems pretty awful compared to how it was. It appears to be run by Nikelodeon now - lots of targetted ads for NickTV and stuff like that. There's also no option to play without a Neopet (I gave up all mine ages ago, the whole "pet" part was not that appealing to me) and since the site is about 6 billion years old, and your pet has to have a unique name, there's pretty much nothing you can call it that isn't a string of numbers. So anyway, I log in, and the thing assaults me to make a Neopet before I can do anything else. Now, ignoring the fact that this is a horrible desecration of the memory of my dear ~TwiLiGhtPrOmISe~, there are a really tiny number of pets to choose from and only 4 colours. What? Each of the colours also looks really dumb. Now, without even dipping that deeply into my own cynical nature, I remember that when I used to play, paints were the most coveted thing in the game. And I notice that there's another number at the top, could that be perhaps some measure of in-game cash? Oh yes, what's that on the side, payment options for buying in-game cash? Fuck you.

Anyway, I make my stupid looking dayglo green deer thing and call it ChunkyLover898_989 or whatever, and I decide, hey, let's see how the games are now. I mean, I don't want to be unkind, but the actual website itself looks less modern than it did 10ish years ago, so I'm wondering if this is made better by some cool new games. Everything on the popular list is a game I recognise. Seriously. So, I decide to hit up Dubloon Disaster, since that was my all-time favourite next to the solitare games. They... upgraded the graphics in the most pointless way ever and completely wrecked the controls. And I mean, wrecked the controls beyond any semblance of making the game playable. There is no finesse, or clear way of changing your speed, let alone turning while moving. I died on the first try twice because whatever they've done to change the way mines spawn seems to now allow them to spawn immediately next to you.

The place seems also to have forgotten that I have a house (fine) but apparently the omlettes I got are super-rare now. Whatever. They should be mouldy.

Anyway: F-

I wonder if Binweevils still exists and how awful that is...

I still go back to neopets every now and again, only because my account is super old and it makes me feel cool.

Does anyone know a good estimate of the total number of US Soldiers who have been deployed in IRAQ since after the invasion until today? I can only find the momentary number of each year.

There's lots of Sarahs on here.

A friend of mine, we'll call her... 'Sarah', is becoming a roller derby girl, and needs a good name. So far she's mostly got dinosaur names (TriSarahTops, VeloSarahptor, etc) but she thinks they sound lame. Can anyone here come up with a scary sounding Saraname?

I made cheese! Actually, I got my little sister and her friend to do all the hard work, but I supervised :) It's a delicious creamy ricotta and now I am eating some on crackers. (Recipe here. It's extremely simple.)
