Wait.. we.. we can do this. I need volunteers. People with webcams and glasses. Reflective glasses.

I need the first person to glare at their webcam and take a picture. I need the second person to fullscreen that image, stare at the webcam above the monitor so the image on the screen is reflected in their glasses and take a picture. I need the third person to do the same with the results of the second person.

A glare in a glare in a glare. Maybe get a fourth person. Or a fifth. How deep can we glare?

Any group of nine people can be amusingly fit into the 9 Team Fortress 2 roles. In this case, I was doing the crew of Serenity, and The Scyphozoa did the group from Lord of the Rings.

Any nine also work for alignments, but it's hard for stuff like Firefly where you like all the characters.

Maybe it's been a while since I've seen Firefly, but how is Book anything like a sniper? And Wash a scout? And Zoe a demo woman? Zoe seems like she'd fit the scout role much better, especially with that little mare's leg.

Hah, that's true. There's probably a direct relationship between how many characters you've found to fit and how loose your definition of "fit" is.

Hmm, let's see if I can get Firefly alignments to fit...

Lawful Good: Book
Neutral Good: Kaylee
Chaotic Good: Mal
Lawful Neutral: Simon?
Neutral Neutral: River?
Chaotic Neutral: Jayne

Damn, no one's all that evil, at least in the main group. That guy that liked to torture people could be Neutral Evil. I guess reavers are obviously Chaotic Evil. And then the Alliance is Lawful Evil.

There, that basically worked.

If you consider good and evil to be "altruistic" vs "selfish", (which is part of one of the definitions given) this sort of thing becomes easier.

Well, that's where the lawful, neutral, and chaotic modifiers come in. Chaotic evil doesn't usually mean selfish.

It pretty much always means 'more interested in money than doing the right thing', at least in CRPGs. So Jayne definitely fits. I'm not sure anyone else does, though. Let's see:

Lawful Good: Simon
Neutral Good: Wash
Chaotic Good: Kaylee
Lawful Neutral: Zoe
Neutral Neutral: Inara
Chaotic Neutral: Mal
Lawful Evil: Book (I'm pretty sure he was, at least, before he became a Shepherd)
Neutral Evil: Jayne
Chaotic Evil: River (because noone fits chaotic evil and she at least has potential)

I took chaotic evil to mean, "interested in destroying everything for the hell of it," neutral evil to mean, "does whatever helps itself, completely regardless of others," and lawful evil to mean, "does whatever helps itself within the bounds of laws/its position/what it can get away with". Thus, the lawful and neutral variants are the most purely "selfish", whereas chaotic evil is just "destructive".

I take lawful to mean there's an order/reasoning to how they do things, whether they're "good" or "bad", whereas chaotic is.. chaotic.

Lawful Good: Book
Neutral Good: Inara
Chaotic Good: Mal
Lawful Neutral: Simon
Neutral Neutral: Kaylee
Chaotic Neutral: Jayne
Lawful Evil: Badger
Neutral Evil: The Operative
Chaotic Evil: Jubil Early (I'm not sure about the order of these last two :|)

Maybe.

I prefer the square with the [Altruistic - Neutral - Selfish] and [Dogmatic - Neutral - Pragmatic] and that leaves a hole in the middle because roleplaying a True Neutral seems dull.

I have not - I generally avoid books (and fanfics) about film/TV show characters because they are, as a wildly generalised rule, poorly written.

Having said that, I do (or at least, did) read the Buffy and Angel comics (Season 8 and After The Fall respectively), and they were pretty good. Although as always, with comics / graphic novels, I don't feel like you get nearly enough entertainment for your money.

I don't think it's poorly written, since it's by Joss Whedon he at least knows what he's talking about. And it is nice to know Shepherd's story.
But you're right, comics are rather disappointingly short. I obviously don't care though, last week spent over 50$ on comics that I read within an hour :P

Old people are just short adults with gray hair. There is no inherent wisdom with age. If you weren't particularly wise when you were young, you're not particularly likely to be wise when you're old either.

If I know my movie setups correctly, that means you have about 11 days until you get paired up with the younger guy who makes his own rules and doesn't listen to authority, but is tolerated because he gets results, and sent out on important and dangerous mission. I'd recommend getting through the "learning important life lessons from each others' experiences" phase as quickly as possible, so you can focus better on the task at hand.

I am extremely amused at how the nyan cat website uses a link to a catalan website and offers their language so they can use the .cat TLD.

I also see Lawful Evil as those who try to organize and create order, but in an evil-ish way. Like those who create their evil empires or try to rule the galaxy. Chaotic Evil just goes c'norris on everyone who gets in their way and don't want a controlling structure, evil or not (often because they don't want to be ruled by more evil, which kind of makes sense).

Re: Alignment - See Also: This Thread.

The main problem with using D&D alignment to define yourself is that the alignment covers normal human behavior (I'm kind of a dick! I'm Evil!) and.. shit like Angels and Demons and the like.

Which is sorta like having a temperature scale that only measures Absolute Zero, Room Temperature, Absolute Hot, then trying to use it to describe a really cold day. "It was colder than room temperature, so it must have been Absolute Zero out there. I mean, it had to be close to freezing that puddle over."

From War Stories: "This is precision work. Sharpshooters. From the look of these wounds, I'd say a 54R sniper rifle. Laser sights."

So clearly Book knows something about sniping. He's also good at hitting kneecaps, and Jayne (who we do see sniping in the pilot) does not have the sniper personality.

It was a toss-up for me between Zoe and Wash; they were the last ones I placed. There's no non-action-guy in TF2, so I put Wash as Scout because it worked best with his flippant personality.

I like lollipops.
