Apple are cleverer than you think, and I am guilty of mis-judging them. I mistakenly thought that their decision not to provide the latest operating system for my trusty, 2yr old iPad was a sign that they only cared about the sort of muppet customer who must camp outside their shop every 6 months to get the latest release gadget, and that those of us who try to make our IT expenditure last >3 years could go hang.

In fact, it turns out they were rewarding me as an early adopter if the iPad by not inflicting their truly dreadful new mapping app on me. Thanks apple - you may have crippled my iPhone but at least my iPad still has a proper map on it!

Just make sure you don't upgrade the OS on your iPad.

Well, jeez, you guys! To think you could have dissuaded me from upgrading the OS on my iPhone. Good thing I decided to completely ignore your advice, and now Safari has this wonderful little full screen button.

Thanks for nothing, forum.

I'm not upgrading to iOS 6 until there's an untethered jailbreak available. I already use a different app (MotionX GPS Drive) for navigation, and I can access Google Maps in Chrome for the time being, so I'm not too worried about maps.

So, today a certain forumite tweeted the words 'sex club' and 'time travel' in the same tweet and based on that I wrote a story which you should all read. It is not explicitly very much anything, but I wouldn't read it at work because of big bold capital letters: http://zombiesintelligently.com/vignett ... -sex-club/

Just found out that the tablets I've been taking to treat my labyrinthitis are also anti-psychotics...

It doesn't make much difference to me, because they work fantastically well, but it would have been nice for the doctor to tell me.

in related news to the conversation above, it seems that I am incapable of updating iOS on the ipod through a proxy. Must use a odd port that its not open here... anyhow I probably will forget to update it at home later today, and since I do not use the map app I should be fine when I get around to updating.

Oh yeah, that reminds me.

A couple days ago I went to see the doctor for a follow up visit. It lasted all of 2 minutes and boiled down to "So, you got better? Great, stop taking the pills, take them again if need be." I still got charged $45. On the one hand, I realize I'm not really paying so much for the 2 minutes as the fact that he's gone to medical school and actually knows what he's talking about. On the other hand, it still kinda sucks.

These forums - any forums, really - were TERRIBLE on my Droid Incredible (which is an all-around bad phone, anyway) but they're fine on my iPhone.

I'd bet most Android phones don't like forums with large text boxes like this.

Is the stock browser usable now? I just upgraded mine to Belle as well, and didn't even think to check, I just reinstalled Opera Mobile.

FWIW, Symbian3 allows global proxy settings for connections, and Opera Mobile has it's own proxy settings as well.

I do not think that opera mini has proxy settings for the iOS... only setting that is relevant is the protocol which is either HTTP or socket/HTTP. it may be hidden somewhere strange as these settings often are. (context for the proxy comment, I am the student IT worker at the college I go to and since we have a proxy it needs to be put into all computers/mobile devices that people want connected to the main network and not the guest one (lower bandwidth). Also need to change the IP addresses of these devices in the DHCP to give them more than two weeks access, most the time this goes well but some...)
In other news I think I need a bit more practice parallel parking before I do my drivers test. And need to pay a bit more attention to the road/signs. didn't realize a light turned green and for some reason thought a light controlled intersection was a stop sign. but besides that I believe I am at least a decent driver.
