I just realised that being a Furry is the last bastion for bored, middle-class white teenagers who are trying to shock their parents with their rebellious behaviour.

Think about it, odds are that anyone you know who is a Furry is
[a] young (<25)
[b] white
[c] middle-class or upper-middle-class
[d] has come from a fairly suburban background.

It's like, nowadays all the things that used to be shocking like casual drug use, sexual promiscuity, homosexuality, piercings, tattoos; they just don't cut the mustard in terms of pissing your parents off. So what do you do? Steal your school's sporting-mascot costume and wear it while banging your girlfriend. Bonus points if you can incorporate elements of bdsm or homosexuality into your furry-ness.

Are people really that bored with their genitals? Has the internet ruined sex so badly? That the only cure is to fantasize about being an anthropomorphic fox with a large, veiny penis and submissive tendencies?

People are weird.

Personally, the best thing about trees and rain is the noise they make. It's best if the winds are high. High winds, in a forest.. it feels like all the power of the end of the world.

and some times people do. turn off safesearch and google image "furries" - most of your results will just be illustrations but guess how many of them will have these elements included - rough answer: a lot.

Are people really that bored with their genitals? Has the internet ruined sex so badly? That the only cure is to fantasize about being an anthropomorphic fox with a large, veiny penis and submissive tendencies?

"Thanks to the internet, I'm now bored with sex." Fry from Futurama. While the internet is responsible for the mass distribution of information of various types (factual, editorial, pictoral, textual and the ever popular completely false) I cannot believe that it is the only cause for sexual exploration and tendencies. It just makes ideas more easily available. They may or may not be GOOD ideas, but that should be left to the individual(s) who practise them.

That being said, this does not apply exclusively to furries. To vanillas, this all looks kind of weird. Furries might not like BDSM. Practitioners of BDSM might not like food fetishists. Food fetishist might think that people who are attracted to feet are insane. The point remains:
People are weird.

This. We're all a little weird to someone else. That doesnt mean that there is some mischevious or malevolent motivation behind our actions. Its opinion and perception, is all. In my opinion, I think your assertions about Furries are wrong, but that doesnt disentitle you to saying so.

I suspect there are some furries who do it for attention/piss people off/seem weird/what ever other reason springs to mind, but there are also furries who are "genuine". That is probably true for most minority communities. Furries in particular get a good deal of attention, so that might contribute to attracting attention-seekers more than other communities.

I was bored. Went on the interwobs. Mooched around. Discovered sheet music for Sunburn, by Muse. Thought "Oooh, I wish I could play that". Proceeded to locate keyboard.

Practiced for ages. I can now sort of play it. This is the first time I have even touched a keyboard in about a decade (And I'm 16). I thought I went pretty well.

Anyway, my random thought is: God, my right wrist aches.

I find it annoying when people mute the adverts. It's not like they're brainwashing you...I especially find it annoying when they mute it and then don't talk to anyone, they just stare at the TV. Why don't they want to talk to me? I don't smell.

Aren't adverts are a kind of brainwashing? They try really hard to get you to think you need or want something you actually don't. Personally, I mute the damn thing because I really don't want to hear the crap they have to spew. Back when ads where worth watching, and they were actually entertaining, I wouldn't mute.

Edit: I don't watch much TV, so maybe I don't have the same tolerance for this kind of thing as someone who does watch a lot.

Same here. I used to mute it, but don't anymore because I usually do something else while occasionally glancing at the TV, so it's not worth the effort to mute it on the commercials. I hardly ever just watch TV now anyway. It's just too boring.

Some adverts just have horribly annoying sound. Apart from that I just stare at the screen in a vegetative state, not taking much in. And generally when you're watching TV, you're also not trying to talk to someone at the same time.

I generally don't watch TV very often now, preferring DVDs and Internet obtained media.
However, when I am watching TV, most adverts are ok.

The adverts I can't stand are the ones that feel the need to shout: "HI, I'M BARRY SCOTT HERE" or "OUR AMAZING BOGOF OFFER!!! BUY ONE WINDOW, GET ONE FREE!"
