Actually, it should be forums.xkcd.whatever, not fora.xkcd.whatever.

With fora, the link is broken.

Administrator means that you can delete the system root if you wanted, and outside of an "Are you sure you want to delete X?" message that you get with everything else, there's no training wheels or other restraints to keep you from fucking everything up horribly.

The problem I have windows 'security' is that it seems to be tied mostly into the GUI. I doubt it would give you that error message if you tried to delete root files from the command prompt.

Case in point: I was trying to fix some missing subtitles in VLC in vista, and at one point got vlc to open a file browser for me to pick a font. When I selected the C:\Windows\Fonts directory, it told me I did not have permission to access it. I simply typed the address into the prompt, and it gave me access. Go Windows.

There is a reason I have not left linux for a few weeks except for to run one 'program' I need for uni, that is entirely written in excel macros, and at work where I actually need to test drivers on it.

The command prompt often runs at an elevated permissions level in Windows I believe.

It bothers me that only Me, Pyroman, and DaMullet watch The Middleman. It's such an awesome show! Yes, it's on ABC family but it's funny!

And it's got robots! And Aliens! And Alien Robots! And ninjas! And masked luchadores! And Apes! Boy Bands! Fish Zombies!

What else could you want!?

My boss said, "Not much makes me angry."

I said, "What does make you angry?"

He thought for a bit, then said, "Treating others with disrespect."

Then we had a customer, so I didn't get to answer, but I think in a way that's the opposite of what makes me angry, which is the abuse of authority.

So today was my first day of high school this year, and my first day at college (only taking one class though.) Exciting I know.

My high school is a bit different. I only have one 'class', and in a sense only one teacher (I'd explain how this actually works and everything but it isn't the point.) Anyways, normal first day stuff, syllabus, what to expect, a little fun and games, etc. The thing is we were handed out a 'survey' to complete. I got to question six, which is 'If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?', being the sort of person who doesn't like to lie even if it might make sense to, I put down 'I'd rather be biologically female.'

There is nothing wrong with this. My teacher is super awesome, and I am 100% confident he would understand. But I asked him where I could hand the survey in, and he said 'Oh no, just keep it, we're going to do some stuff with them tomorrow.'

Ut oh.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting (:

Good luck. I want to say Gratz, but it dosen't quite seem appropriate. Friendly warm feelings directed in your general direction?

Thank you <3.

The only problem I have with continuing this course of action, isn't that people will dislike me (or hate, I dunno), but rather it might cause a disruption of 'the learning environment', or something crazy like that. *shrugs* At least half of the people in the class seem cool? Who knows.

EDIT: I should also probably mention that my parents don't know, so what happens when the whole school does? :|

Slightly related rant, since our teacher's are so awesome, we got to see THEIR handbook, rather then just the student one. And guess what I found. I found some really disturbing language. Thought up by old men in the texas bible belt (A teacher's words not mine, but probably true).

1. "G.R.I.D.", which stands for Group instruction, Reinforced learning with an Individualized focus equals Dedicated mastery, is apparently our school's teaching methodology. This doesn't seem so bad except its in a section about how 'we' diagnose students and later it talks about how 'we' create a prescription (a learning plan) for each and every student. Now, all I can think about is what GRID used to mean.

2. In a list of "HIGH SCHOOL NAME REMOVED CORE VALUES", which is filled with good things like, putting the students first, celebrating diversity (lol, wut?), practicing the belief every child can learn, there is, out of no where, just 'We build partnerships with stakeholders.' Um. How does that go with learning again?

From the handbook wrote:4. To demonstrate how to reduce the rate of dropouts and grade level repeats and to eliminate social promotions through measurable learning, academic safety nets, and "Quality Control".

And a lot of it is just really weird, such as how the students 'rarely have any fire left in their eyes', and how you should 'speak softly and carry a big stick.' (at least they say the big stick isn't supposed to be literal, and yes I know its a quote, but still.)

I could go on for a while, but thank god my school actually isn't run this way or by these people.

Oh, yeah, and I'm all about civility and things. It's just that as I asked the question of him, I answered it for myself in my mind, and was mildly amused to hear his answer, which in a way is about the misuse of non-power (civility is so that people don't get angry at you.)

Once there was a boat-train
It was a train, it was a boat,
And many human lives were lost
'cause trains, they cannot float!

Boat train.

Boat train.

Listen to the spectres,
Hear their mournful cries,
do not ride the boat train,
or you will surely die!

Boat train.

Boat train.

Everybody died,
Everybody died,
even those in first class,
they were trapped inside!

Boat train.

Boat train.

Boat train.
