That isn't really a very cute action to be honest.
More alarming.

It's only alarming because it hasn't been properly described. Which is the whole point of the request for better words.

Even without the word lunged, the action being described just isn't especially cute.
It's the suddenness of it.
I'd be spooked.

Maybe "dove" as in "she dove for the tasty morsel".

That way it's not predatory.

Hey Commabandit. Not saying pounced is bad, but doesn't it have MORE predatory connotations than lunged? That aside, I think it's a good choice.

Not exactly.
My point was that lunge sounds to me like an animal lunging for food, but pounced is like a cat pouncing on a mouse toy. Cats are cute, no?

One could say that she reached out and plucked the piece of sushi from her dates chopsticks.

I also think pounced sounds more hunting-y than lunged.

Random thought: Servanthood is the opiate of well-trained masses. Never contain all your googles in one round, oddly-shaped basket.

Fleeting thought: Why did I feel the need to post those random sentences, and why did they flow so easily from my brain to my fingertips to the keyboard?

Because the facing of servitude is mesmerising, like the breaking of water, like the falling of wire like the grandeur of the worlds. One can never be certain as their nature is to defripulate.

I'll do one better. My parents - and brother and half-sister - were killed by Science itself. I allowed myself to get bitten by a radioactive scientist, knowing it would give me the tools to fight back against the tyranny of mad science.

RT: In place of the slang use of "Butcher's" for "look", I've been using other job titles recently around people and I find it pretty funny.
"Let's have a sheep shearers"
"Wait... what did you say?"

FT: I'd estimate 80% of my floor space that is meant to be empty has something on it that I've meant to have dealt with.

edit: I just realised how I put "any other different similar" and how many things are wrong with that. It's 3am and I've not been on the ball at all recently (I feel pretty retarded at the moment compared to normal tbh. Hopefully that won't come into play in anything shortly happening), which I attribute to midday waking, little exercise, a bit worse than average diet and it being pretty late.

FT: I wonder what it would take to give me a concussion; I have been hit flat in the face by a toyota previa slide door (whilst they were still big and bulky) at full pelt. Then later that day I was on one of those roundabouts in the playground, there were lots of us and we decided it would be fun to each lie on the roundabout one at a time whilst everyone spun it as fast as possible. Several people went before me, causing the grips to become sweaty. At full spin, I lost my grip, went flying into the air and landed on my head onto very hard plastic in a shape not dissimilar to that of a meat tenderiser (lots of sharp pointy bits).
It all hurt, but I didnt have a cracked/fractured/broken anything, nor did I have a headache or concussion.

Whats it like? (I'm guessing bad)
