I just understood this thread's title. Fleeting thoughts is like a fleet of ships. Oh.

I took it as a play on "like ships passing in the night". Which, now that I've typed that out, seems less plausible than your thought.

I thought it was too obvious. It's been called weirder things, like fluff and a title I cannot comprehend: unhatched fishes and turtle excluding devices. I also encountered this fluff while looking for past titles.

A little more explicit:

A group of ships is called a fleet.

Thoughts for (doing) (a group of) Ships is Thoughts for doing a Fleet.

Making a Fleet can be called Doing a Fleet. You can verbize it into Fleeting.

Fleeting Thoughts is another name for Thoughts making a Fleet.

So Fleeting Thoughts is Thoughts for Ships.

Isn't it because it's hard to miniaturize enough? We're getting too close to quantum level or something?

I don't know about physical limitations, but memory consumption simply hasn't necessitated it to begin with. You can buy 16GB ram sticks (64GB sticks are available in the server market), and most computers have at least 2-4 ram slots, yet most computers sold have 8-16GB of ram. Most of that extra ram is probably being used for disk caching except for on the most taxing of applications, and there's diminishing returns there.

Why hasn't software kept increasing its memory requirements? Have we reached a point where the ever-growing layers of abstraction and usability do not (significantly) increase the memory footprint? (even excluding the 'cloudified' programs)

That said, haskell still stands strong in eating all the memory (most notably when compiling libraries like ghcjs). And browsers can suck up quite a bit too.

It's a matter of what we are using it for. With the internet, websites are restricted by bandwidth, and optimized for low latency across a wide variety of systems, so there is no real pressure there, and that's probably the main use for personal computers these days.

Even with 3D games, there are diminishing returns to larger textures and more complex wireframes, but even if you're double the memory you are limited by memory bandwidth and processing power which are better used for things like lighting. The internal representation of objects is relatively small. Code size itself is nothing, so there's little concern there. It's just all game assets.

As processors get faster, memory access speed gets relatively slower, due to the speed of light (and the physical distance between the CPU and RAM) staying constant.

Introduce it to Eastern European driving culture. Everyone here knows you don't get fined until you go more than 10 km/h over the limit and speedometers usually add a solid 10% ("I checked with my GPS") that gives us 329772 km/s. Oh, and you only need to keep to this if you know the cops are around...

Don't know where this should go. Looking for gag apron that has a butler's suit printed on, similar as here but hopefully full length and in black/red. Any help appreciated.

Is Spreadshirt's too understated? Measures thirty-one inches long by twenty inches wide. (Approximately 0.784 meters long by 0.508 meters wide.)

Sells one at Buycoolshirts.com too. Measures twenty-two inches wide by thirty inches long. (Approximately 0.559 meters wide by 0.762 meters long). Lacks a red accent, however. (Comes in red too. Looks incorrect then.)

I polled the Fire Sages and they charted the positions of the stars and then asked the physicians who took note of my chi flowing... anyways, yes, I had chosen my middle name based on mostly a feeling for how well it suited me. I looked it up on Behind the Name and it said it belonged to a princess or something so I was like, "Ooh!" Then my mom gave me my given name. :P Thank you for asking.

If you remove the wallpaper in teamviewer (a toggle to presumably save bandwidth) it is now teamviewer-blue instead of the theme colour (usually white or black). Took them 12 versions to decide on that. [edit] False, the computer switched to a teamviewer-blue background because of disabling visual themes. [/edit]

It's been over 10 years (possibly nearing 20 now) since I played that once on an arcade machine, but today I rediscovered the game: daytona.

If you can get or make a digital image of what you want and upload it, they can print it and ship it. Be sure to use the right location suffix on the site the first time or you will get a lifetime of discount codes that are only applicable to purchases made on the far side of an ocean.

In testing, the printed pattern wasn't entirely square to the grain of the fabric, which made measuring and marking slightly tricky, but an apron is not a very tricky thing to make. It could be made trickier, if you want pockets where the pockets appear on the pattern, but if you just want a layer of cotton it's pretty easy.

Consider getting three yards of it and folding it at the bottom to make a 4'6" apron two layers thick for better protection.
Oh, Willie McBride, it was all done in vain.
