[Man, it's like once I start, I can't stop.]

F/RT:
  • French is the only (western) language I'm having trouble learning to pronounce through songs and lyrics on youtube. I know, it's not the best method out there, but I've found it pretty damn reliable so far. I've got Swedish pronunciation from Amy Diamond and Caramelldansen, Finnish from Nightwish, Spanish from Christina Aguilera (though I also learned that one in school). Hell, I even managed to figure out Cyrillic through Taty. But French just isn't working for me. I might even have to *gasp* look up the pronunciations of the letters.

  • I prefer learning how to say things than knowing what they mean. I'd rather be able to read phonetically a sign in Russian than know what it means. This isn't a bad thing in French/Spanish/Itallian, as I can figure out what they mean simply by looking at the roots most of the time, but it's not good in Japanese (which I'm picking up from friends who study it) and Russian.

  • I'm in Spanish IV. I can speak passingly if I'm not thinking about it, and if I don't mind sounding like a bit of an idiot when it comes to vocabulary. I can read it very easily. To me, the syntax barrier that my friends have trouble with ("the words are in the wrong order" or "that dosen't sound right in English") dosen't exist. It simply sounds like formal/old-fashioned English; I was the only one in class last year that understood translating "dejar" as "to [give] leave" when we were studying the subjunctive. Also, I always get yelled at by y friends in my class for speaking in Spanish.

  • I seem to have different definitions of the term "friends" than most people. To me, friends are people around my age that I get/got along with. Sort of like close acquaintances. My peers, whether I actually enjoy their company or not. With my really close friends, "best friends", I almost never even use terms like "friends", or "them". It's usually "We like" or "we did" or "we think". the "We think" one usually gets a bit complicated, though, as then I have to clarify "well, we as in ____ and I think this, but ___ and ___ and I think this, and ___ and ___ think this about that" and so on and so forth.

  • I have always, and probably will always, spell the word "doesn't" as "dosen't". I've gotten in the habit, and it's become a bit of a spelling rebellion for me. IfI'm writing a really important paper, sometimes I might go though and replace all "dosen't"s with "doesn't"s. but most of the time I don't even notice/think about it. I've gotten so used to it I almost don't even notice the red squiggles during spell checks.
I wanted to see the universe, so I stole a Time Lord and ran away. And you were the only one mad enough.

Once you learn what they do with terminating consonants (silent if the following word begins in an consonant), pronouncing French isn't so bad. Just note that "j" and "r" aren't the same as in English.

You can tell Word to auto-replace all instances of the first with the second.

Also, with the french pronunciation, another tidbit is that é is pronounced the same as et or er, that is a hard A. Other words that end in e, sans accent, are not pronounced.

All I'm saying is watch an episode of http://animal.discovery.com/tv/dark-days-monkey-city/ then watch the Senators response to the Presidents address. Its funny to analyze the similarities between the two.

On a side note, the Presidents speech was second to none. Doing what's in our best interest doesn't set us apart from the animal kingdom. Doing what is in the best interest of our fellow man does. The part about character and the responsibility of government to protect it's citizens against corrupt business really touched a cord. The Monkeys sit idle and watch each other die.
