Tracking down some crap that the government lost, I found a Service BC expense to my bank account for $140 and a bit. Neither me nor my wife remember what possible Service BC charge could have come from that day, and we managed to recreate the events of the entire day, right down to taking the girls to ballet.

In my microbiology lab, we have QC plates with bacteria that we have to subculture everyday so we have fresh samples to do our reagent QC on. Is your project similar to that?

Is it possible that the time the charge was made and the time that it went through are different? I know I've looked at my account before and seen charges that I didn't make, then realized that I had made them and they just hadn't been put through until Monday or whatever.

Contact your bank/CC company. They're usually forthcoming in these matters. They'll at least know the origin of the charge, and may be able to cancel it if it isn't legit (and it's only gone a couple of days).

itt Van replies to old topics re: WH40k

I picked up some books for a looong plane trip recently, and decided to grab some WH40k novels on a whim, so I picked up two Ciphas Cain books. They're probably the most fun I've ever had with a novel :D Maybe not amazingly well written, but just.. I don't know. Really liked.

I ended up buying and reading all ?7? of the books in like, 4 days.

I have three separate tabs open to an internet drama-fest, because some paranoid drama-addict is being a douche about trigger-warnings and I consider that Serious Business. ("No one who read that could think it was anything other than amusing!" she says, after someone... who read it... very politely requests a trigger warning...) I could comment anon, but I keep hesitating/thinking better of it, and the madness rambles on without me.

I can't quite decide whether this is very sensible Staying Out of Internet Bullshit, or socially-avoidant dishonourable cowardice. XP

(I think this fool seriously believes that anyone who says anything remotely against her is just one of the legion of trolls who stalk her around to make her life miserable, so, I doubt it would do any good anyway...)

It depends on what internet community you're talking about, but assuming it's between strangers on the internet, I don't see why staying out of it is cowardice. I never feel an obligation to defend strangers on the internet. Sometimes I feel compelled to, but never would I feel like a coward for not doing it.

Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain baking a pie. What kind of pie is it?

In other news... I have got to keep better track of my RAID members. I've spent most of today discovering that 1. many GRUBs still don't like RAID metadata v1.2 at all, preferring 0.90, and 2. since I added my new RAID 1 pair last Christmas ('10), but kept the old drive around to boot from because I hadn't figured out the metadata thing yet, my root partition had been still residing on the old drive rather than the new drives.

So now I'm fixing that and also upgrading to Mageia 1 because that was what I wanted to do in the first place.

I have bad memories of Farscape from BBC2 12 years ago, or so.

But spouses/partners should be forced to watch Firefly. It took two attempts to get past the first 5 minutes, but once she was in - she loved it.
The death of Lady Diana was also predicted by Moby Dick.

I wonder why every internet community I know shittens severely over the years. Be it 4chan, reddit, bay12, whatever, the substantifique moelle seeps away with time, replaced by stale memes, drama, and boring people.

Strangely enough, those that start shitty enough (videogame forums...) do not seem to increase in shittiness over time.
