It's hard to type out a sentence like that. The words are glaring at me.

No...that's silly! What's really going on is that I'm trapped in Ghana and need money to come back to the US. Don't you want to help a poor poor woman out?

I love hanging out with physicists so much. I'm wearing the "Science: It works, bitches." shirt and have gotten several comments on it, including "That's blackbody radiation, isn't it?". <3

I had a "Stand back, I'm going to try science" shirt that I always wore on lab days in AP Chem, but I guess I got too big for it and I feel a little silly buying the same shirt in a different size. Besides, I'm no longer in chemistry so the beaker doesn't fit quite as well.

I wish I had the attention span on computers to read stories =( I may give it a try.

Screech: Sometimes I really want to pop people's bubbles at false-color astrophotography ("look at how marvelous god created that red and blue and green nebula!") but I just... feel kinda sad about it.

I'm certainly aware that a lot of astrophotography is recolored, but typically what color is it actually? More or less, I dunno, gray and brown?

For galaxies and nebulae, mostly just blobs of faint white. The false color you see is, more often than not, indicators of an element (say, red is hydrogen) or from some other part of the spectrum. And then they tend to enhance the contrast by a astrometric ton, so they can see the details better. I think most astrophotography started with an astronomer carefully examining a picture of a nebula to figure out how it's moving, and a family member walks in and says "THAT'S SO AWESOME!"

It's non-visible light, isn't it?

And they colour the waves that the astro-stuff is giving off, to show us what is actually there.

That's how I always understood it - doesn't stop me liking it for being pretty though.

Also the sun isn't yellow, it's white. It looks yellow from earth because the other wavelengths are scattered in the atmosphere. (And as the sun sets the incoming angle of light decreases, so longer wavelengths start to get through and it appears red-orange.)

The more you know.
