Can't find a good image of this.

Postby The Snide Sniper » Thu Sep 20, 2018 3:09 pm UTC

I'm looking for an image (drawn is acceptable) of a pool or beach with one kid that's cautious, getting in slowly, testing the waters as he goes, and another kid that's jumping off the diving board and/or cannonballing/bellyflopping.

The thing is, I don't even know where to start looking for an image like this. I tried a Google search, but I had no idea what search terms to use, so I came up empty. Can anybody help with this?

Found two somewhat close.
Pool 1.jpg

Chose this for the child's stance on the left. Interpreted that as uncertainty. Appears significantly different from their neighbor, at least.

Pool 2.jpg

Captures the essence, if not the water.

Proved difficult due to typically occurring at opposite ends of the pool. General search methodology:
1. Kids Pool Diving. Noticed very few uncertain kids. Swapped to that.
2. Kids Pool Cautious. Replaced "cautious" with combinations of "anxiety", "scared", "testing", "dip toe", and "temperature". Dug up nothing good. Contained mostly happy children.
3. Kids Pool Cannonball. Hoped to catch someone looking hesitant nearby. May have produced the first image. (Tried this earlier too. Usually cleared out the pool, however.)
4. Kids Pool Cannonball Scared. Yielded the second image, deep into that search.
Changes its form depending on the observer.

Appearing on opposite sides is fine; I mainly want them to both be in the foreground.

It's kind of important that the water be in the photo.

Does this Calvin and Hobbes comic suffice?

Not really—I'm looking for a static image, not a comic.

Does age matter significantly?

Could try a Photoshop (or equivalent) solution too. Combine these (and add/remove color), for example:

Fits with a different coloring book style page too, probably. Beats endlessly searching pool and dock images.

for deva to find a google search difficult it is REALLY dificult. also, you should probably just draw it. or get someone to pose for it.

For the record:
172 image searches. Doubled some, oddly, perhaps due to hitting more results. Should be 165+ different searches, ignoring those and a typo.
Keywords: (Grouped by type, not search amount)
- Pool, Rope Swing, Dock, River, Beach
- Kids, Children
- Differences, Contrast, Outlook Life
- Afraid, Cautious, Anxiety, Nervous, Frightened, Hesitant, Fear, Test, Testing, Dip Toe, Wade, Wading, Easing into, Careful, Slow, Cold, Chilly, Temperature
- Demonstrate, Right In, Reckless, Jump, Leap, Plunge, Splash, Bellyflop, Cannonball
- Swimming, Water, Waters, Diving, Diving Board
- Pictures, Stock Images, Comic, Book, Coloring Book, Coloring, Water Safety, Safe, Cartoon, Drawn, Drawing
- Deep End, Rebecca Patterson (Seemed promising. Only showed a bit, though.)

Mash one item from 2+ of those categories together. Search. Repeat. (Deviated sometimes, but rarely.) Kept some words in a category together, such as Dip and Toe. Denoted them accordingly.

Note: Accepts the possibility of searching for the wrong scenario. Hunted for either a facial expression (fear, uncertainty, or discomfort) or stance (dipping a toe in or wading with both arms far above water). Demands a fairly close image to discern sometimes, likely in shallow water. Tends not to attract attention. Imagines not many uploading that either.

Contrasts someone diving in, presumably in deep waters. Announces it beforehand sometimes. Captures the photographer’s focus. Potentially breaks the expression or stance of the other kid too.

Essentially required one kid to be in the wrong area. Delved into pool safety posters once, consequently. Seemed more likely to be drawn than photographed.

Edit: Why not?

May not paint the correct story. Appears quite afraid or unwilling, though.

I was actually thinking use Photoshop instead.

It would make a great meme format if I could find an image to my satisfaction.
