Worst songs to get stuck in your head

Postby GusPatsy » Mon Oct 01, 2007 5:11 am UTC

Not the worst songs, not the catchiest songs, the dreaded combination of the two that smashes its way through your ear canal and runs amok in your skull for days at a time. I for one am not going to bother with titles, I'll just provide you with the part of a song that's beating the shit out of my mental well-being at the moment:

If you wanna be my lover
you gotta get with my friends
relationships aren't forever
friendship never ends!

And, as nominated by the (less awesome) American Office:

Love me, love me
Say that you love me!
Fool me, fool me
Go on and fool me!

I don't care 'bout anything but you!

Love me, love me...

The worst one I've had: "Cooking by the Book" from Lazy Town. I ran across it a month or so ago online and it was in my head for almost a week. Now, it's still stuck in my head at least one day a week.

What's interesting (and much less annoying) is if there's some instrumental music you really like, listen to that to the point that you start getting instrumental songs stuck in your head. This first happened to me when I was listening to a lot of buckethead. It was strange at first because whenever I get a song stuck in my head it's usually a line or two of the lyrics rather than a line or two of awesome guitar.
I've never made anyone's life easier and you know it.

I had "Closer" by NIN stuck in my head in 10th grade and made a bit of my name for myself by muttering it aloud during study hall. The teacher threatened to have me suspended.

The worst ones are songs whose lyrics you can't sing in mixed company to get 'em out.

I've got an unholy trilogy of The Kitty-Cat Dance, The Llama Song, and They're Taking The Hobbits to Isengard.

Though, Holiday in Cambodia pretty much plays in my head at all times. I rather enjoy that.

I went to a summer camp when i was younger and the people had that playing all the time and they were all excessively enthusiastic and happy... hell on earth. It was just as bad as the deliberately emphasized references in films show. It's like what the hell have they been taking?!

Generally upbeat pop songs though, my future aspirations in my year book was to get cheesy pop music like that banned. I think that kind of music is directly stimulates the area of my brain that deals with pain.

Now that I'm back in orchestra, I frequently get the pieces we're playing stuck in my head (and sometimes on top of the catchy pop song of the day). After a solid six months of Dvorak's New World (we played it for regular season and summer tour), I could play it forwards and backwards and inside out in my head. Probably all the other instruments' parts, too.

Lately though, it's been Tchaikovsky's fifth. Sometimes Carmen, which isn't a bad thing to get stuck on.

Agreed. That song is wrong on so many levels, you may as well just sing instructions of how to aquire and take heroin.
Edit:
"You like it you love it
You know you really want it
The voices I hear
Whenever you're around

I want it I need it
Nothing else can beat it
Hot and spicy
Whenever I'm in town (mm mm)

Enticing exciting
Aroma so inviting
And when it hits
Me, I wanna take you home

Trust me you must see
Just what you're doing to me
Driving me crazy
Hungry to the bone
..."

Wait... what?! Obviously the reaction their discribing is drug withdrawal.

My brain is now it's own radio station of "The most infuriating songs of the 80s, 90s, and today"

I hate this thread for getting nearly everything here stuck in my head.
But it is apt for my current state of having Justin Timberlake's Sexyback stuck in my head. A song I am not fond of and have not even heard for weeks since the last time someone drove past me with it. Yet here it is, sitting in my skull, shouting;

I’m bringing sexy back
Them other boys don’t know how to act
I think you're special, what's behind your back?
So turn around and I'll pick up the slack.

Take 'em to the bridge

Why.

Whoever felt the need to start this, thus permanently re-embedding "Wannabe" in my head- DIE!

What happens to me is that I'll get four or five notes of the backbeat of a popular song, or half a verse of something instrumental, stuck in my head. Half the time I can't remember what the song is, and the notes get stuck so hard that I unconsciously subvocally hum them incessantly until my brain rebels and shuts down.

I get R.E.M.'s "End of the World" stuck in my head on a regular basis. Unfortunately I have not memorized the lyrics so it is just me, mumbling nonsensically in my head. I have also had the scary appliance song from The Brave Little Toaster in my head off/on for nearly a month.

Almost any Fall Out Boy song. I would hate them much less if their songs only annoyed me while the radio was actually playing them, instead of the rest of the day.

Also, MC 900 Ft. Jesus, "If I Only Had a Brain". I've never heard the actual song. I've only seen the video on Beavis and Butthead. It's the one where I guy is mailing himself, and Beavis hums the bassline. "Bow, bow, bow, ba-da-da-dow. Dow-now-now-now dow dow dow-now. Higher!"

Fortunately, my favorite band Lourds has a very catchy good song called Always, which I use to get bad catchy songs out of my head.
