Once I attached a notebook to a bench, with a message inside telling people to write something down, and leave it.

15 minutes later somebody had stolen it. :?

The-Rabid-Monkey wrote:My mate once managed to get hold of a fairly large jelly dildo We convinced him to run full speed down a main road in town with it, throw it at a guy and continue running. The guy was rather stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing, dropped the dildo and walked off, the surrounding people either gave weird looks, or also laughed.
What was more amusing was people reactions when they saw a 40cm jelly dildo lying on the foot path, and even more amusing was when after half an hour my friend went and recovered it. He walked over and with a great big smile on his face, exclaimed "This is perfect!" and picked it up and put it in his bag. Some people just had looks of absolute disgust on their face, others seemed to be thinking "what the..." and some laughed.

I found a box of post it notes lying on the side of the road, half of them were wet and useless, but I recovered the rest of the box and proceeded to stick them in odd places over the city with strange phrases on them. The phrases were as simple as; "Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." and "Do to others as you wish done to yourself." But some were just weird like "Have you ever wondered what nothing would look like? It couldn't be black nor white, as that is something.", "What do people who have been blind all their lives see in their minds when they think of an object? Do they see anything?" and "This post-it note was brought to you by the same person who wrote it."
These were stuck on the backs of buses, random cars, ceilings of buildings, theatre screens, and with the help of a mate, I manged to get one on the outside of a 4th story window with the help of a VERY long pole and a lot of cellotape. It stayed there for about 6 months and said "Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars. - Henry Van Dyke". I can't believe I still remembered what it said, yikes.

One thing I have always wanted to do is attach a very large flag of New Zealand to the top of the Sugarloaf transmission tower, so that it is visible from all of Christchurch. For example (Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture from the ground, only one half way up the port hills, but it works still.)
Image
Perhaps for added laughs, one could do it with the Australian flag instead. The whole idea is to get it up there without being caught or damaging equipment. It would have to be mighty large, in proportion with that photo basically. So about 25m high or something stupid, but it would be mischief at its best, also people would think some Aussies did it if it was an Aussie flag

And another thing I would love to do is paste A4 sheets of paper to a building, preferably in a high up, hard to reach place, that said something mundane like, "Hello, how are you today?" or "I'm so high right now."

EDIT: Nearly forgot, I one super glued three two dollar coins to metal grates around Christchurch. I was also planning to super glue a New Zealand one dollar coin to a metal grate down La Rambla in Barcelona, Spain. Unfortunately I found no decently cheap glue anywhere :( It could have started a cool tradition or something.

EDIT2: I'll happily start sticking those Googly Eyes around that were mentioned back on page 8 (I haven't read any further than there). I can think of a few statues around around that would look much more amusing with Googly Eyes, and some kiwis on the one dollar coin etc.
I also might consider attaching water bombs to helium balloons and releasing them int he centre of town.
Or just as fun, get many dozens of helium balloons, attach to a piece of fishing line about 200 metres long, and tie in some obscure place around your school. That's actually a brilliant plan :)

I think I may have a flag we can use. it's not huge huge, but it's pretty big.

Although,
Orientation tour groups on campus (moderate crowds of highschool seniors being shown the wonders of our college) sort of drive me insane. Sometimes I want to wave my arms at them "booga!booga! booga!" only that seems... not quite good enough. What are some good ways to make them just a little less orientated?

Whenever my dad saw a tour group, he would grab a friend and a frisbee and run out onto the lawn and shout loudly enough for the group to hear, "I can't believe we're getting credit for this!"

Although that was back in the day when you had to take a gym-type credit in college, and I'm guessing there really are colleges where you can take an Ultimate Frisbee course.

But do with this information as you will. =)

1) I don't think it's weird in the get arrested way. It's definitely weird in the weird way?

2) You should do cartwheels (if you can) around them. Or pass out something to each of them (if you can). Something odd and totally random (and preferably cheep). Like blank pieces of paper. Or seeds.
Pass out tissues and/or towels, informing people that they'll need them. Just approach each person, hand them some tissue, say "You'll need this." and move on.

My friends and I have started randomly quizzing each other on the finer details of Ocarina of Time. It all began when I was at one of their houses and decided to repeatedly text "Hey! Listen!" (a la Navi) until they responded.

I haven't actually done this, but a thought occurred to me the other day as an easy, silly thing one could do. Whenever you call in an order for pickup or delivery and they ask for your name as a reference, you should totally come up with something off-the-wall/silly. I may do this soon.

I actually enjoy just randomly yawning during a conversation, then counting to see how long it takes for another person to yawn.... If it is early in the morning, or late in the night you get better results..... (you can also do this with looking up.)

I have an idea to do something like this:
[Walk into a random kindergarden classroom, wearing a trenchcoat, a bowler hat, and a Bluetooth headset.]
I know you’re listening.
Turn it off, <name>. Darn it, <name>. I can’t believe you. Turn it off!
[notice Bluetooth earphone thingy]
I know what I’m doing, <name>. Don’t worry.
It’s not about your brother. No, it’s not really.

Shut up, <name>. He’s still listening. I need to get in and get out. Shut UP!
[wrench out headset, throw at ground, walk in]
[Write a brief message on the board.]
"The seat closest to the window isn't safe. Hold onto the stuffed snake"
He can still hear me, I can’t say anything. Just do as I’ve said.
[walk out of room]

There's a lot of snow in my area. So. I kind of write XKCD in the snow wherever I am. Car windows with snow are better, though - not that cold and more visible.

I ought to do something interesting...

Sounds like a good idea, but it assumes kindergarteners will know how to read that well much less understand--or for that matter pay attention to--the dialog you just performed.

Also, depending on who you are, this will likely get you arrested.

Thanks, you guys. Because of this thread, I'm going to put up about 10-20 of these around my school. I designed them myself (GIMP FTW). I'll be sure to take pics on Monday.

Walk around with one eyebrow always cocked, and speak with an upward inflection, as though you are alsways asking a question. Also, never lift your feet from teh ground when you walk, spimply shuffle. (this is difficut, but possible up, and down stairs.)

The Weirdest Thing You Have Done?

Postby Fractal_Tangent » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:28 pm UTC

I love making the world a weirder place.
Just to see the reactions on people's faces.
So far:
I've covered my town with sticky labels saying 'Property of...'
I've swallowed 3 googly eyes, a tiddlywink and some playdough.
I've played cowboys and Indians (well Native Americans) in my square.

I was just wondering if anyone else could chip in with what they've done to make the world stranger. =]

I humped a dinosaur at the mall.
Flashed an old lady for cutting us off, though she didn't look.
Screamed "WELL IF I HAD A DICK I COULD PEE FASTER" when my window was down, and an entire family of praying muslims turned and looked at me.
Hugged a random old guy and said "Grampa!" and he said "uh...wrong one..."
Screamed the Oscar Meyer Wiener song in town as people walked by.

Lots of others.
Life is beautiful.

I'm always jumping / climbing / walking on things that one normally doesn't.

Again - my hobbies are martial arts / gymnastics and rock climbing (When i'm not being a computer nerd or reading that is). So this is just me... practicing :).

I tend to behave at work... but sometimes when walking to work i'll walk on the jersey-barrier type fence on the backroads to the office - people I know honk as they drive past, it's good times.

As for WEIRD - hmm I broke into an abandoned building (bring a sledgehammer and 2 friends with me) and broke down a brick wall in the basement, based on a artitectual diagram from the 60's that said their was a room there... we were very dissapointed.

But they won't actually work. If I would do that I would like something less quantifiable and stranger, like "whoever you write in here will become the subject of a hit pop song." Any ideas?

I'm unsure if it's really weird, but when I'm out bike riding (which I do everywhere - I'd be quite hindered without my bike) I always sing loudly, often in falsetto. It probably annoys people, but since I quickly ride out of their vicinity anyway I think it's okay.

I got out of the mod game a while ago, but if I were still in that line of work, I'd merge this with the other thread of making the world weirder, or lock it and link.

But I can't.

As for doing weird things, I'm frequently going out to do photoshoots in spacesuits about town, and simply existing is enough to freak out the squares.

WHAT AN AWESOME THREAD!!

This is seriously right up my alley. The few times I've been taken off-guard by performance art, people acting in unexpected ways, and surreal moments in everyday life, I've been SO THANKFUL that somebody jarred me out of my pedestrian trance. So it's my mission to make the world a little bit weirder.

Here's two things you cats might dig...

a bunch of friends and I made this list - 101 Ways to Make Everybody's Day Weirder

I also like this project called POSTERGASM, a Discordian attempt to inject some guerilla surrealism into pedestrian places. If you're interested, we've collected a TON of awesome PDFs which will weird-up your neighborhood. This one is my favorite, I think.

Took a photo of Nixon into work (was at a grocery store) and had the bakery put it on a cake along with the text "We love you almost as much as Richard Nixon. Happy Birthday Stephen." for my sister's boy friend at the time (her idea, and he loved it).

One group of friends I hang around with tend to break into song while walking places, most previous time we go sining "This song is just six words long" and started coming up with alturnate lyrics.

While at a furry convention I wore a dark blue trench coat the whole time, one day I walked around with a banana tucked in the belt for most of the day, a girl I had talked to a couple times before was joking with me and told me my badge was invalid for getting into the dealer's room (she was legitimately guarding it), I traded the banana for entrance (made her day, as she was hungry at the time).

A friend at work likes to get into people's personal space to weird them out, when I first showed up he did it to me to weird me out, and he got kind of freaked when I turned my face against his, looked into his eyes and said "hi babe."

I'm well labeled at the weird guy here, along with a couple others. Role playing and being extremely whimsical and ambiguous about a lot of things tends to do that. What's even better, is that nobody can actually ask certain questions based on don't ask, don't tell. Bwahaha

Flashed an old lady for cutting us off, though she didn't look.
Screamed "WELL IF I HAD A DICK I COULD PEE FASTER" when my window was down, and an entire family of praying muslims turned and looked at me.
You appear to be completely insane, going by these :D

And having dick !=peeing faster. It's just more convenient :)
Anything I said pre-2014 that you want to quote me on, just run it past me to check I still agree with myself.
