I just had strip 238 happen to me! Granted, I was in a bar, but doesn't that make it better. I was siting at a table reading a book, (How to live safely in a science fictional universe, not that it makes much difference) and someone came up and asked me what I was doing reading a book at a bar on a Saturday night.

In retrospect, she might have been trying to hit on me...I'm really bad at catching those things.

Some of my best memories involve sitting in a dorm room during a summer term watching Angel, talking to an ex's ex on AIM, and getting drunk out of my mind on vodka.

That these are some of my "best" memories probably speaks more about my current quality of life than the activity in question, though.

Went out with work people. Ones I liked left. I left, climbed a tree, got stuck in a tree, climbed out of a tree, walked home through the woods singing loudly and shouting about random crap, got home, drunk internet.

That is, I spent time on the internet while drunk. I didn't drink the internet; that'd be silly.

I'm drinking 99 Cherries to calm myself down from falling in lava in Minecraft. It really shouldn't get me that mad, it's an IC2 server, which means the recipes for carbon fibre and diamond drills are bugged out, so I can't actually get my stuff back legitimately. There you have it: the straw that made me snap.

An acquired taste, perhaps. Also, there are lots of different whisk(e)ys. You might find you like a different one better.

The whiskeys I've tried have all been split between either sort of smokey flavor and a sweeter kind of honey-y flavor, and I personally prefer the sweeter ones. So, there are lots of opportunities to try things out! Just drink responsibly :)

After I got used to it it definitely sucked less, but it was just regular ol' Jack Daniels? I still like wine better, though. Doesn't make my eyes water :D

I need to be in a certain mood to drink neat spirits. The feeling of the alcohol evaporating off and condensing inside your mouth is interesting and often enjoyable, but not in all situations. I haven't had much whiskey that I like, but I have enjoyed gin, vodka/koskenkorva, strong mead (>40% ABV) and brandy. I've also found that brandy's really good for cooking; it makes a wonderful pepper sauce and, unlike red wine, you don't need to worry about it going weird once it's been opened.

That's what looking back at things you done while drunk often feels like. The only foolproof way of preventing it is not getting drunk.

WilliamTheConqueror wrote:After I got used to it it definitely sucked less, but it was just regular ol' Jack Daniels?
Jack is very sweet due to the high corn content. As a fan of the (very non-sweet) Schottish whisky I am of the opinion that it is not whisky but bourbon, due to the corn in it. Bourbon is also tasty IMHO but it's like calling an apple an orange. It's just incorrect (and not because an apple is inherently better or worse than an orange).

WilliamTheConqueror wrote: I still like wine better, though. Doesn't make my eyes water :D
A 40% spirit is a bit much as one of your first drinks. Even when it tastes of a sugar-water-alcohol mixture (in order of concentration :P). And by all means, stick to wine (when you get to the legal age of course).
Whisky is an acquired taste. When I started drinking years and years ago I started with beer. I don't think I would have liked an Ardberg 10 back then. Now it is one of my favorites and I hardly drink beer anymore. Tastes change with age and having a taste for whisky at 16 is uncommon to say the least. (16+ was the legal drinking age back when I was that age in my country). I am 31 years old.
Any 40% spirit is going to have a strong alcohol taste. That is probably the "acrid gasoline" taste you mentioned in your drunk post. I deeply enjoy that taste, especially with the boatload of other flavors a good whisky has (peat, chocolate, smoke, salt, fruit, nuts etc etc etc). Oh and I only sniff and sip whisky. I can go hours with a 2cc glass and deeply enjoy the smell and taste. The smell is way stronger in a good glass with a lid, so half the time I only smell the whisky and be happy.

A glass of sparkling white + a shot of coconut rum = a recipe for a spinning head. SSRIs possibly contribute to this.
