100% Accurate Web-based Psychoanalysis!

Postby ASmileWithoutACat » Wed Feb 13, 2008 10:55 pm UTC

Confession: I probably ought to see a psychiatrist...

Medium-long clarifying self-pitying spoiler warning (I figure it's unfair to inflict my whingeing on the unsuspecting)
Spoiler:
I know... probably just enough about a few mental disorders to cause myself problems (or make them up). I find psychology very interesting, but haven't ever had the time to pursue that. Anyway, the point is that this is self-analysis and probably spurious. However, personal best guess: I might have some mild Asperger's, along with (possibly) assorted other oddities. As a bit of backstory, I was very, very bored today, ran across this quiz, took it, and ended up with... basically the possibility of everything it claims to indicate. Except dyslexia :). And quite strong indications (again, according to the quiz) of both schizophrenia and Asperger's. Which is interesting, as I never really considered schizophrenia a likely problem of mine, but... obviously, I have no idea how accurate, approriate, or even serious this quiz is, but that's not really the point. I've been thinking for a long time I ought to at least act on some of this, and it wouldn't be difficult, I suppose- I'm in college, and covered by health fees, so there's counseling available, I'm certain. It's just that I haven't managed to convince myself that going to a psychologist is not in some form an admission of failure. I just keep hoping for something to tip the scale one way or another, I guess.

I consider a diagnosis of a psychological disorder via an internet quiz to be about as helpful as calling up an auto mechanic and saying "My car's going wrrrr wrrrr wrrrr put put wrrr. What's wrong?"

Geez, I just spent, like, 20 freaking minutes on that piece of crap just for it to tell me that I'm not screwed up. Even though I am. I'm self-diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure I have OCD.

Mmmm... Sorry about that, Tony, if it was because of my post. And ST- yeah, I know. Actually, it wasn't the quiz so much; the questions were fairly transparent, if you had some general idea of symptoms, and I'm quite aware that, the (probably non-existent) quality of the test aside, confirmation bias sneaks in no matter how hard you try consciously to avoid it. That was more the latest trigger than anything- just a very small touch of confirmation for about 7-8 months' (likely more, but 7-8 months that I've really been aware of) suspicion. Helpful no, slightly worrisome on top of other things yes.

And I have had to tell the mechanic before "It's got this kind of clunk clunk grrrrrr ping sound going. What's that mean?"
I do this sort of thing.

And Fossa... cool kids? I know not whereof you speak. There are none here.

And it sure as hell wouldn't make me feel cool to have any sort of disorder, mental, physical or otherwise.
WTF would otherwise be? Spiritual?

What the heck does that graph mean? It doesn't tell me anything other than "you are unbalanced".

I find it curious that you two both chose to save the graph to your computers and then attach it or even upload it to Photobucket when you could have just linked to it.

Edit: Oh, I get it now. There are the lines labeled with a certain trait, and the point at which the garbled excuse for a line intersects with it is how prominent that trait is in you. The further away from the center, the more prominent.

I see Cat Man's as a t-shirt.
Mine is a heart. Rotated 90 degrees [does anyone know the alt+# code for the degree symbol?] clockwise, it's a blimp. Counter-clockwise, it's a bat. Upside-down, it's a human face with some sort of abnormal growth coming out of the side.
Likely malignant...

Edit: Catman's thing 90 degrees either way is a manta ray, and upside-down is a griffon's head.

Twice edit: Am I crazy?
Confession: I'm procrastinating. I have a two-page essay on the difference between growing up as a child in ancient Athens and Sparta due tomorrow.
<----hasn't started =D

Come to think of it: Catman's at 130 degrees counter-clockwise looks like a top hat =D

I find it amusing that these are more useful as Rorschach tests than any sort of indicator of actual data. Amusing and quite appropriate. Carry on.

Also, of all the shortenings of my name so far, I quite like Catman.

Edited for my stupidity and Tony's rightness.

...I'm assuming a Rorschach test is the whole looking at ink blots deal?
