that needed help, but Reagan ignored/refused to give aid to? This isn't too important, but I would appreciate some help.

I'm not very versed in this kind of material, but have thought of the Biafra country as of late?

Oh, you mean Nicaguara! I should have known, totally.

Thanks, but unfortunately Biafra disbanded in 1970. Any other ideas?

The US and/or Reagan didn't do anything drastic to help when Poland was under martial law. People died from that, though maybe not as many as would have had Poland-USSR relations turned out differently.

Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

The USA did more than people realize. According to reports I've read, there was a secret alliance between the USA and the Catholic Church. Essentially the CIA provided the Church with materials on non-violent protest and a variety of donations, and the Church provided a network of priests through which this could be delivered to the Solidarity movement and the general population in an inconspicuous manner. Obviously that worked quite well and Poland was the first country to escape Soviet domination.

Why was Poland chosen to be first? Because that's where the Pope was from!

I've always wondered to what extend the fall of the rest of the Iron Curtain was the result of the use of the same techniques. But I've never run across any materials on that subject. I do strongly suspect it, though.
