Do you have a fora-crush?

Postby Nebulae » Fri Feb 29, 2008 11:14 pm UTC

Let's see some numbers

OTTERS AND DUCKS is the "sort of" option.

How easy is it for people to get attracted to each other through these super anonymous online interactions? No hormones pheromones involved!

Although it's not something I take seriously, yes. It's innocent enough.

Yes. And I voted wrong for the 'do you know what they look like' thing. Damn.

Also, complaint: You missed the 'otter' option. Shame on you!

Yeah... they do that. At least only four or five people had voted by then. And I got to fix my bad vote.
Thanks.

(I wouldn't vote for 'otter' here, but I've been told to include it in polls in case someone really doesn't have an opinion in either direction, or if they dislike the poll).

I voted 'No'. I like a lot of the people on the fora, and wouldn't mind knowing them in real life. But there's no-one I'd say I had a crush on.

"Sorta"? No-one I'd seriously try to take things further with, but there are ones I think are funny and attractive.

If by "fora crush", you mean I find them rather attractive, funny and enjoy reading their posts, then yes. There's two forumites I have a "crush" on.

Yes, several I can think of off the top of my head, and I haven't the foggiest what any of the lasses look like (unless their avatar is them)!

As I'm the sort of person who's brave enough (or perhaps unprivate enough?) to do this, I'll be first in naming.

Note though, that I don't retain any notions of expanding upon these:

Crushes (ranked by depth, in descending order):
functionally_stupid
Angelene/Khonsu
Schumi_girl (She's sort of dropped off the map, along with the rest of Australia. . .)

Semi/could-be-developing (listed in alphabetical order):
Akira
Delalyra

Well, not completely true. There are a number of people I don't know well enough to.

Nope. I'm actually surprised on a forum with several intelligent female members I have yet to fall in love with one. But I'd like to avoid any long-distance relationships too, and most of you live far away, so I consider this a good thing.

Unlike a lot of people, though, my mind accounts for inaccessibility when determining how attractive someone is (not sexually attractive, I just can't think of the proper term). It counts heavily against them. From what I've seen a lot of people don't do this. This can lead to cases of "I would be in love with this person if they lived nearby/existed/etc"; i.e. they score very high, but then lose a lot of points for living far away or not actually existing. :P The girl in my avatar falls into this category (not existing basically brings her score back down to zero). On the subject of fora crushes, Nicole88 falls a little ways below it (basically "I would like to get to know this person better if they lived nearby, but have no actual feelings for them at this point").

There are a few of you - Deadcatx2 and SecondTalon come to mind, and others I can't remember - that I don't have a crush on but still wish I could hang out with.

By the way, my sig. >_>

I sure do. No clue as to what they look like, other than hints I've read about their skin, hair, etc. But what does that matter? I am simply crushing on them because of the perception of their personality I get from their posts. Well, that's my biggest crush. I guess I have a few others due to their cute looks and enjoyable posts.

I find some of the people here a lot of fun, I certainly found some guys attractive, but nothing that would count as a crush. I assume if I met them in RL that would change.

I voted yes (several, actually), although I really don't mean it in a serious way. I haven't been here for long enough, and I'm not at all sure how one develops a real crush just based off of a forum posts.

Nope. I don't think I ever have. Not that there aren't plenty of attractive and intelligent people on the internet (and on this forum), but the open and blatant nature of internet forums means that most of the awkward moments and sexual tension of real-life crushes is entirely absent. That's what instant messaging is for. Or, you know, physical interaction.

I don't think I could ever really develop a crush for someone I haven't both seen and heard, at least through video, and I don't think I could keep a crush for any length of time for someone I had almost no possibility of ever meeting in person.

You should really make this a dynamic poll, seeing as the answer can change over time. That would presumably reset the results, though...

Anyway, I voted no. I was quite surprised to see that 2/3 of people didn't.
This is a placeholder until I think of something more creative to put here.

No crushes. I am a shallow, shallow little person, ergo there is always a physical attraction component to my crushes. I like people on here, certainly, but no fantasies.

No, but I did have a dream about argyl3. Not a sexy dream though...all I remember was that we were in a suburban living room and she was wearing a top with angel wings on the back... And in the singles ad thread I though cypherspace sounded lovely.
