Confession: I hate getting things. I hate getting gifts, compliments, anything. It makes me feel uncomfortable.

I don't want you to buy me anything for Christmas. You paid for me to go to the concert last week which you begged me to let you do. That was enough. I don't have the money to buy you anything in return and i will feel even worse if I don't get you anything. *GRRR*

...sorry.

Maybe you could try accepting that people want you to feel happy?

Also, gift-giving is by its very nature, not trading. The other person isnt (or shouldnt be) expecting a gift of equal monetary value in return, and there is no need for you to feel guilty or bad or anything if you dont/cant give him/her something in return.

However, I know how you feel. it sucks. :(

I more or less feel like he is OVERgiving. Trust me, I love giving people things. I jsut don't do so well with the receiving part of it. As far as the whole trading thing. I am the kind of person that has to return the favor. I mean have to.

I am a little bit like this. I always am left wondering what I have done to deserve getting things, or people being particularly nice to me, or anything.

I like getting people things when I think it will make them happy, as it feels pretty special to do so, so I make an effort to be happy when I do get given something, but I can't help but feel a little guilty when I do.

To suffer-cait:

Well, first off:
How long is your hair?
What texture is it?

Basically,
1) to start off, see if you can get your hands on some dread shampoo. For about a week beforehand, wash your hair with that instead (or you could just not wash it, but the oil isn't helpful).
2) Find a comb with good, strong teeth, and, if you can, some Lock Peppa. Mine just would not have held at all if it wasn't for this, and it's damn useful for maintenance.
3) Rent a bunch of movies and enlist a friend- this could take a while.
4) Get said friend to section your hair into squares- if you do rectangles, or other shapes, they'll more likely turn out as these odd, flat mats of hair.
5) You don't have to do all the sections at once- just make sure they aren't tangling hair that should be in other sections into it. Have them hold the hair towards the middle to start with - not too tightly as that will prevent the knots from forming - and backcomb (i.e. come from the end of the hair towards the scalp), rotating as you go. Every once in a while, separate the forming dread into two and pull- several times with different halving, so as to tighten the knot. Keep doing this until the end of the hair, then tie off with a rubber band (it'll help keep it all together while they grow, and you can take them out later). The best ones to use are the ones used for braces.
6) Repeat until all hair is deliciously dreaded.

Some people use waxes and such, but they aren't entirely necessary. Maintenance and other creation tips can be found here, and here. Best of luck!

Edit- Confession: I feel much lonelier than I am prepared to admit, to him or anyone in meatspace. This doesn't affect me at all if I haven't spoken to him in a while; maybe I should just avoid him religiously.

my hair is just past the small of my back and super brittle/tangles easy. i'll prob wait for the girl who usually braids my hair to get back from college, cause she's discovered what we think is the perfect thickness of braid for my hair, so i figure that should
transfer to the dreads, yes? i'm super excited, now, though my bf ain't so keen on the idea, but then he disliked me getting tattooed more, and he got over that pretty quickly.

I have a build a bear called Humphrey. He's a gay, drag queen bear. (My sister decided this.) He takes up some space in my bed whenever Lolsaur's not here. Lolsaur bought me a build a bear called Frank. Frank looks lonely when Humphrey's not on the shelf next to him, so sometimes Frank also takes up space in my bed.

Confession: I feel really silly for thinking a teddy bear feels lonely.

I have a bear. He has colour-changing LEDs inside him and when I press his paw he glows from blue to pink to red to white. He sits on my pillow during the day and when I'm sad I hug him and hope that things will be okay. Sometimes if I'm really down, I'll put him in my bag and take him with me wherever I go so I'm not quite as alone.

Considering the lack of adequate male genitalia, that is a bit odd. It likely has something to do with the fact that they're "Teddy" bears, the Teddy being a reference to the Roosevelt that would have preferred to live in a tree.

I was just talking about his preference for being outdoors. Starting the national parks service and whatnot. Believe me, no ill will is meant by that, he was a great man.

What are you talking about this tree? They are named Teddy bears because Roosevelt refused to shoot a defenseless bear cub.
In American History, there are two primary male Roosevelts of note, unrelated to the other. One was a renown ballroom dancer who's Odori Polka won him fame in the late 1930s, early 1940s. The other was known for his expansive treehouse building around the turn of the century (1890-1910, we'll say).

The treehouse builder was the one with the bears named after him, so named because he was the first to create them, but his initial, misspelled name (Teddy Bares) cause massive confusion, mostly in the form of men mail ordering his medium sized one (8 inches tall) then writing angry letters about how there was no way their wives would be able to fit.

I see.
I don't know if he was a great man. I read an essay about him that kinda made him out as a man who basically just set out to prove himself as a man. It was all about manliness with him, because he was a sick child. He made people afraid to be a little effeminant.
Maybe that doesn't make him a bad guy, but there was something in that essay in which this quality of proofing his virility caused him not to be so swell of a dude.
