This is the union member's library, and is meant to be a place to relax. Hence it as a DVD room, DVDs to borrow and is mostly fiction. But it's still the nicest library to work.

Does... Does anybody actually object to you studying? Do you get people going "Aww man, quit it with the books, you're reminding me I have work to do! It's really bumming me out!!!"

Because I think the sign might be there as a sort of... If you're studying, you'd best not be complaining about the noise or anything. You have no right of way here.

I think hygiene is mostly overrated. In the sense that it's true that it's healthy to be clean, but most people in most climates don't have to shower every single day.

I shower every day (except maybe if I'm tired and then I shower the next morning), but mostly because Israel is a hot country and I tend to sweat. Thus, stinkiness.

Fess: I used to feel bad about not showering. You see, our shower has been broken since I was about 5, so I wash up in the sink. But lately that has been reduced to "splash water on the parts that need it". And of course that means washing my hair in the sink. Which I hate. Too much effort.

I shower every day (except maybe if I'm tired and then I shower the next morning), but mostly because Israel is a hot country and I tend to sweat. Thus, stinkiness.

I think that most people overreport the amount they shower out of a need not to be seen as a disgusting bag of goo by "normal" people. When I'm not waking up next to someone in the morning (aka when I'm single, like now), I most definitely shower less often. But I'm not a nasty bag of goo O_o

I shower exactly every other day (meaning 3-4 days a week depending on which week it is) because my hair is reallylylylyly long and if I get it wet or steamy too often, it frizzes out like a motherfucker (meaning I can't take body showers every day, either, not even if I just put my hair in a bun--it's too frizzalicious!). And I work a pretty standard office job. For instance, I didn't take a shower this morning and I look and smell just fine. Deodorant is a wonderful thing.

Your hair will conform to the amount you wash it, as well. When I was 16ish I used to take 1 or 2 showers a day and my hair was CONSTANTLY oily as fuck. When I cut back on the overwashing, my hair's oil production cut back. It only looks kinda shady when I wake up on shower mornings, because it expects to be washed soon :)

Also I brush my teeth only when I shower. But I know I should brush them more. sigh

It took me so long to realize that I don't have to wash my hair everyday, and in fact shouldn't. It took me even longer to realize that I don't have to necessarily shower every day, as long as I make sure I still smell good, and haven't sweat too much.

I shower every day and brush my teeth in the mornings, but I only wash my hair only 1-2 times a week. It looks pretty for the first three or four days from the washing to the next wash, so I don't worry too much about it. Besides, it is ALWAYS worn up in either a bun or a jaw clip (I call them death clips, because they look like weapons, especially if you'd sharpen the ends), so it doesn't matter too much how it looks. It doesn't frizz out unless it gets wet, at which point it absolutely freaks and turns into a Hermione-esque bush on top of my head. I hate it. My solution is not to get it wet unless I'm washing it, and not to stay in the shower for too long unless I'm going to wash my hair or it's kept back in a bun while I do.

How do you shower *without* washing your hair? Shower cap? I can't shower without washing my hair, because that would just mean my hair was unruly and impossibly tangly all the time. I shower every day, and wash and condition my hair every day, and follow that up by putting a glossing/detangling/anti-breakage serum in my hair to make it more manageable. ...and I don't think of myself as high maintenance!

I do it every other day generally. Before I would just let my hair get wet and not wash it. It didn't cause too many problems doing that, as my hair's wavy and not curly, so touching water doesn't cause it to... well it frizzes whatever I do with it. But it's no worse if I wash it than if I get it wet then if I don't do either.

I also, at work, tie my hair back in a ponytail everyday (headsets are a bitch to get around not-tied back hair).

I applaud you attempting to learn Japanese. It's a really fun language once you get into it! However, I want to warn you straight out that anime isn't the best way to study for it. People in anime don't talk like real people. (It depends on the genre, but this seems to be generally true.) I would recommend, if your looking for listening comprehension practice when you start studying, the stuff in Rosetta stone and maybe some live-action Japanese dramas (where people are more likely to talk more or less normally, and you can get an idea of how to/how not to act in certain every day situations). PM me sometime if you want to practice anything, though. It could be fun!

RE: Showering. I shower once a day, usually, unless I think I'm going to go to the gym later, in which case I wait until after I've gone. (Although sometimes I get too tired to shower after that and end up showering the next day). I have really long hair for a guy (down past the shoulder blades without pulling it straight, and probably half way down my lower back if you do), so I end up having to wash it about once every two days, because otherwise it gets ridiculously frizzy. I actually have to use really really moisturizing conditioner because nothing else will calm the frizz. And I look hilarious when it's humid, again due to frizziness combined with the fact that I have a lot of hair (which then stands up and curls and does other fun things).
There's a method to my madness. Somewhere. Don't worry, I'll find it!

that sucks, dear. I've lost the desire to talk to people. I still have another hour and a half left of work, so I have to talk to people.

At least I'll get half an hour of silence (well, other than music blaring) after work before I talk to people again.

I make a very concentrated effort not to talk to people when I get off work. I work on phones and by the end of my shift I am just not in the mood. My roommate probably thinks I'm socially deviant since I just answer him with one word for nearly every question he asks.

But mostly I just don't like talking to him anyway.

See, this seems perfectly reasonable to me. My diet is like, for dinner, I'm going to have chips. An hour later I'll be thirsty and have some chocolate milk. I make up for eating terribly unhealthy foods by only eating very little, and only when I'm very hungry.

I fail at life eating.

@Wolf & Socialswimmer - I agree that anime isn't quite the best way to study Japanese. There was some guy in one of the Japanese classes a friend of mine did who learnt his through anime and always sounded like a little girl. It was a bit creepy

Re: showering.. I shower every night before I sleep - it warms me up and makes it easier for me to sleep. If I don't I'll wake up with cold sweats during the night and sleep really badly. I try to get my boyfriend to shower with me, but he prefers to shower in the mornings.

If I can get away with it I'll only wash my hair once every 2-3 days, however unfortunately I ride horses and every time I ride I have to wash my hair after (helmet hair is grose) so if I ride every day then I have to wash my hair every day... and then my hair gets used to being washed that often and doesn't want to go back to being washed every few days ><

Pizza, salad, milk; all good things. Pizza's not really that bad for you, unless you eat it all the time. And pesto's green! Vanilla cake: a well-deserved treat. Hot chocolate: treat as well, but chocolate's got positive qualities for you.

I know the feeling... it extends to any form of modly reprehension really.

I used to feel bad when the mods red texted me... then they had their 'happy fun stupid week' or whatever it was and I lost a bit of faith in them.... Now that they're back to being normal however the Godly fear seems to be getting restored.

But I hate being yelled at in general. Any sort of reprimand makes me feel awful. I just can't take it well. I cried at work when one of the bosses got mad at me, then I cried again when we had a crisis meeting to try and sort it all out...

Then he got fired

Since then no one has yelled at me and all is going well. I do try and work pretty hard, though, and do the right thing so that I *don't* get yelled at. This guy at work was just an ass.

Totally me. If I know I'm deserving of it, even a light warning will make me feel guilty as hell and so on. Then again, if it's obviously not deserved, I'll make like teflon. If it's in between, I'll assume I deserved it.

What's red texting?

Confess: I wish someone would smack some moderation into me. I've learned that I'm a very "all or nothing" kind of person. I either run away from problems, or tackle them too strongly. I respect peaceable people, but at the same time, I think they're morally compromised fence-sitters who've sold their integrity in trying to have everyone get along. (...hell, just *listen* to myself and you can see the problem.)

red texting: adding red text to a person's posts. red text indicates "mod voice" and is usually used to reprehend the person or inform about deleted objectionable content.
text may in fact be green or purple instead of red.
