Me too! I have huge problems whenever anyone changes their avatar, to the extent that I realize I don't actually know some people's usernames at all.
So, I got tired of the fact that the appearance of my band name in my signature made my posts on this forum the dominant result when googling for my music. Anyway, if you think I might happen to be a good musician, you can test this theory here.

I did nothing all last week and now I just got handed an assignment and I am having a really hard time getting off my ass to do it.

Plus I don't know exactly what I'm doing. It's kind of like if you asked a novelist to write a poem, but he had never seen a poem before. I know the basic idea of what I need to do, but I'm not really sure how to start. I'll figure it out.

I find those two sentences together to be comical in the extreme.

Eating right is expensive in the long run. So is exercise in many cases, especially if you want it to be at all time-efficient.

Losing weight requires you to set aside a good amount of extra time and extra money, often both.

Unless you just get it handed to you by genetics, then you get to snark at all the people who weren't so lucky.

Heh. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week. I just quit caffeine, my one true love, so that I could try to shed another 10 lbs or so. (No more coffee or Coke)

I eat pretty well. I walk everywhere. I work out. I'm still more than 35 lbs overweight. So yeah, I'm starting to get a little bit irritated.

honestly caffeine will help with weight loss, it's the sugar that's doing you in.

Drink black coffee(i think this is pretty much calorie-less), or unsweetened green tea(which is maybe 5 calories at most, just regular bigelow's green tea bags works just fine). Also a multivitamin with caffeine works great in the morning to get your metabolism gurgling for the day(i take one of those).

How's your stress level? There is a huge amount of research about stress and weight gain. Regardless of how you're eating, if you are stressed, you're body prepares for the "fight or flight" response, and stores all stores of things (carbs, proteins, etc.) in case you need to do either one of these things. This isn't something you can control, it's a genetic thing ingrained in all of us.

Confession: I'm really worried about a couple of friends of mine, but I'm not sure how to help them.

Confession: I've worn my PJs all day today. Even when I went out to water the garden (front and back!)

I hate black coffee... actually I feel so much better since quitting caffeine that I wouldn't want to bother. But I do love tea. I've been practically living on tea for the last couple of days. I think I'm going to make that the only caffeine I ingest, because it has such a huge effect on me.

It's... not the worst it's been. I think that's one of the things that might actually let me lose some weight this time. For once I'm not really as stressed as I usually am.

Thanks, btw. I appreciate the encouragement. :-)

I'm "at risk for being overweight," according to my pediatrician (who, coincidentally, is also my mother), so I want to lose 20 or 30 pounds. Really, my problem is that I love food way too much, and I overeat more than I should. It's like binging and purging, but without the purging part.

And I love exercise. I really do. It's just the eating part that's the problem. And it's not like I only eat unhealthy food, either. I love some types of vegetables, and I love almost all fruit. But I just eat way too much.

Sounds like it's time for... DIY stomach stapling kit!

Seriously though, when I became a vegetarian, I lost about 10 kilos (I don't know what that is in dark age units) by simply eating vegetables. About a month later I got my diet together and I am now at the recommended weight for my demographic. But really, being overweight isn't even a big deal. Unless you have a family history of diabeetus or heart disease or cancer (all three for me), if you exercise regularly you should be fine.

confession: I just remembered that when I was a small kid, I fed a potato-chip bag to an ostrich at the zoo. not on purpose, precisely - I was feeding chips to the ostrich (which I probably wasn't supposed to do) and the damn thing snatched the whole bag out of my hand and ate it.

at the time I thought it was funny.

now I wonder if the ostrich died of an impacted bowel :(

this was over 25 years ago. why do I feel guilty about it now?

Meaux_Pas, what's your body fat %? If it's in a healthy range, then I wouldn't worry too much. If it's high despite eating well and working out, perhaps it is time to see your doctor and get a personal trainer.

Good luck, dude, and good job on actually exercising and eating well - not many people can really stick with it.
