See the problem with this screenshot is it looks too nice, and in stead of focusing on the applications I'm supposed to be using, I'd just be staring at a blank desktop for hours on end.
Who are you and who am I
To say we know the reason why?
Some are born; some men die
Beneath one infinite sky.
There'll be war, there'll be peace.
But everything one day will cease.
All the iron turned to rust;
All the proud men turned to dust.

also, thank you. you made me finally get around to tidying up my desktop.

mine is of Dali's "The Eye." it's pretty cool, but i could only find it small, so it's pixelated. anyone got a bigger version? (desktop is 1024 X 768, so anywhere close to that.) :mrgreen:

*ahem* Right.
Here, then.
If you want to edit it, I'd suggest MSPaint. Set both the left and right click buttons to the background colour, and it'll be that much easier.

My solution for the "staring at my desktop for hours" problem is to make whatever window I'm working on translucent. Then I can see it while I work. :D

Here's a question for everyone with 3D desktops:
Does having a desk surface/cube/whatever actually improve productivity and usability, or is it just a neat visual trick?

Now is the performance loss versus coolness/productivity gained worth it?

I would think a perspective-tabletop sort of thing would actually harm productivity slightly, by reducing the number of icons that fit on it. However, a desktop cube = multiple workspaces = huge productivity boost. (I use a plane because my computer is too lame for a cube, but it works just as well.)

Having multiple workspaces is a huge productivity boost. I need my four desktops. However, the fact that it looks like a shiny cube, and spins, and wobbles, and (...) likely negates any time productivity gains.

Code: Select all

_=0,w=-1,(*t)(int,int);a()??<char*p="[gd\
~/d~/\\b\x7F\177l*~/~djal{x}h!\005h";(++w
<033)?(putchar((*t)(w??(p:>,w?_:0XD)),a()
):0;%>O(x,l)??<_='['/7;{return!(x%(_-11))
?x??'l:x^(1+ ++l);}??>main(){t=&O;w=a();}

Why am I trying to justify my desktop background to the xkcd forum populace? Geez, I suck at life...
