I have 3 desktops -- 1 laptop, and a dual-booted Windows/Ubuntu machine.

Laptop (it's pretty plain, since I only use it for Pidgin/web surfing when I'm playing games on the windows machine. And yes, that's a screencap from FFXI):

Compiz. Right click the panel, -> Properties -> Background -> Style -> Transparent

compiz is not a desktop environment...

you can make it transparent without having compiz installed at all. It's just a gnome thing.

Duh. Hence why there was no ccsm or anything similar involved in making it transparent.

ok, Im looking for new wallpapers... ideally something dark, my new monitor is a little bit bright, and large, need something i can adjust to. Do peoples have any good places to get wallpaper? ideally needs to have 1900x1200 versions.

Ubuntu 8.04, with (crappy) custom icons and an awesome background that I found. Too bad the screenshots can't show my Compiz awesomeness, because that's what makes my semi-lame desktop awesome. Or at least I say that.

Yes... I use OS X as my primary OS. However, both of my machines dual boot OS X and Linux. Here is my G4 PowerBook, on which i just did a fresh install of YDL 6.1
