Yeah, I cannot tell either. What's throwing me off is the use of Gnome Shell instead of Unity.

Couldn't stand Unity, I liked how things were in 10.04. Either way, it's 11.10.

Side-note, here`s what my desktop looked like a few years ago. Yes, my porn folder was on my desktop. It`s now named .lolicon in the Home folder.

I have both Windows and Ubuntu set to not show icons on the desktop. I cannot stand even a single icon being on the desktop, which I suppose defeats the purpose of the desktop...

Might as well post mine while I'm here. There's a pretty-much-default panel hidden along the top edge of the screen, and docky along the bottom. I'm still not quite happy with the first handful of lines of conky, though, I'll probably keep screwing around with that for a while. Or possibly forever.

I downloaded GIMP 2.8 today, and I am loving the single-window mode. My old version (2.6.2) had an awful multi-window system where the sidebar didn't minimize if I didn't have a document open. This prompted me to go on a vendetta against desktop icons. Everything I need often is pinned to the taskbar; everything I don't can lurk in the start menu.

SGI Irix 6.5.22 on my old Octane.

For some reason the icons in Irix are all vector-based. Why SGI thought that was a good idea in 1994 I do not know, but the wheel you can see on the left of the file browser lets you zoom in and out and everything stays sharp

That's actually really neat. I've toyed with the idea of picking up an SGI machine off of ebay, as they are cool pieces of computer history, but they're still pretty expensive. It's good to see someone with one alive and well.

Currently switching from Pinguy 12.04 beta to the LTS, normally I have a tweaked conky layout but the LTS just came out today so I've still gotta unlazy and see what it breaks in my cinnamon setup/fix it.

My very clean, very boring, very new work laptop environment that I love. (Seriously, I've just been upgraded from a WinXP machine with 0.99 GB RAM and a Celeryon processor to an i5 with 8GB running Win7. It's like a whole new plane of existence opened up.)

Offset the top lines of your conky from the right side of the screen perhaps?

I still gotta rebuild a custom conky, just got a full reformat and fresh pinguy 12.04 install going (it's a minty ubuntu remix basically, but I use cinnamon instead of unity or gnome) here.

Oh yeah, where'd that desktop come from? I assume it's composited as I don't know how to get the milky way lined up like that relative to the sun during an eclipse.

Ahhh, which version of Arch is that? I'm not as up on Arch and how it runs on lower spec systems.

Bodhi is what I put on the gf's comp, 1.6 Ghz single core atom, works great.

if you mean anything else.. arch is a rolling release..
and i't runs fine on any system. depending what you install with it..
just in case you dont know this, when you install arch, it lets you choose what to install.
default is only "base" which means not much more than
*kernel and stuff
*drivers
*bash with some tools
*network stuff.. iwconfig dhcpd etc.
*pacman

then you go and just add what you want
*X11
*display manager (if you want)
*windowmanager or desktop
...
*userland stuff

Yeah, that part I know, but I had to ask because, as I said, I didn't think your system would work as well with the 64 bit, and that perhaps the system info was incorrect.

Oh yeah, I didn't give it much of a look last time I used windows (on a netbook) since it eats resources which I had in very short supply, I got some functionality from the gadgets but they were kinda irritating to keep going.
