My toe was really close to being non-ingrown. Then I badly stubbed my toe and broke the nail.

Now it's infected again and worse than ever.

And I have to go to the pediatrist in the pouring thundering storm outside.

I really dislike when people quickly choose the opposing side to a suggestion I make, even though the total related factors is so small that any reasonable person should have already considered the at least the majority of the points on both the positive and the negative sides.
If you then try to debate lightly with them, they will often become more defensive regardless of how stupid their position may be. I've now learnt that it's best to completely destroy their point, nearing excess, before they can further a pointless debate.
For example, if you suggest opening a window, unless there's some unknown factor, there shouldn't be a debate as to the fact that there will be a temperature change (On example of many factors). By suggesting to open a window, any reasonable person would have already thought about such simplistic effects that it just seems patronising to me to even suggest that you haven't thought about it.

I get annoyed by it more than everyone else I met, mainly because I often make a concious effort to look at the reasons why things are to decipher any bias I may be imposing on anything. So when someone suggests that I missed something that's seemingly blindly obvious, it just makes me rage.

It's even worse when the topic is smaller, less ambiguous, and has a very limited set of factors involved. People should automatically think about things from more than one perspective and should pay attention to details proportional to the factors importance or relevance to the topic. e.g. In the case of opening a window (Including, but not limited to), temperature, what may come in/go out of it, weather conditions, mechanical aspects of the window (e.g. any locking, hinge, latch, etc mechanism that may require attention), and the positive/negative sides related to them.

Quite a big flaw I see with many people is the fact that they don't look at enough perspectives on any given situation. Often the opposing side is just as important as one you choose to support; ignoring it often proves to be a careless mistake. It may only cause a little wasted time/effort, but it could easily be something more serious if someone consistently only views a single perspective.

p.s. It's 7.30am, I've not slept. Ignore the errors.
p.p.s. I need a better sleeping pattern, as usual. Forum search shows approx 8% of my posts mentioning sleep, if I remember correctly (Not enough sleep ruins memory).

A trifle squandered, lost, and gone for good:
‘Twas excess shining firéd back at me,
To polish with intent to brighten mood
Revealed that true love never was to be;
This trifle, must ye think, not worth my time,
(And likely so does too that trifle feel)
But ah!, the time spent with was so sublime,
That joy, that peace, now seem too good: unreal;
My trifle, however I polished so,
Grew dull and jaded from all my attempt,
And though I got not what I did bestow,
I hold my darling trifle sans contempt;
Although that trifle I had loved so well,
Reflected it did not, but said, “Farewell.”

Ah, the safety of anonymity...

Fuck Brad. What a piece of shit ass hole. I've never met a more fickle, bitchy, passive-aggressive little bitch in my whole life. For almost 5 years I've tried to establish a stabilized friendship with this guy, and all he does is fucking turn his back on me and actively ignore me. Get this shit:

So for a few years we developed a pretty good friendship. Shared interests, humor, etc., and things were pretty awesome. He's been through some rough times, and I was there for him for pretty much all of it that he told me of. Then, around last summer, we have a falling out. This was partly because I felt he became a little possessive of me, and so I wasn't answering his calls when I was with other people. This was a bad idea, and I realize that it was wrong of me to do so. I made some reforms and tried to talk to him about this, and after a few e-mails he decides he's done with me. I learn my lesson, and life goes, slightly painfully, on.

School comes back in, and he and I work together at the same time. In order to not make things at work abrasive, we start talking together, which leads to a re-establishment of our friendship. Things go remarkably well, and we're just as close as before, and even more so because of some well-dosed honesty from one another.

Now the summer has come, and he is actively not talking to me. Nothing has ostensibly changed about him or me, and we haven't said anything hurtful to one another. That being said, he won't even look at me if I'm in the same room, choosing instead to lower/turn his head from me and act like I'm not there. Of course, he is close friends with my friends, so any time he spends with them is time I can't spend with them, because no one tells me they're with him, to avoid the tension.

Here I am, home alone on July 4th because my friends are with Brad, and I can't come. The worst part about this is how much I know he's enjoying it. I've seen him play the ignore game to people he hates, and back when we were friends he'd brag about it. I can't believe I've let someone like this so close that I'm letting them hurt me. </baw>

Of course, I don't bring this up with my friends. It's not right to say mean things behind someone's back, especially when they can discolor said person's character. I respect Brad as a person more than that, and despite what he's doing, I don't really want to hurt the guy or his reputation (live and let live, etc.). Thus this is / has been my only release about this in over a year.

Fuck Brad.

Don't you know? The nice guy has *way* better judgement on who the girls should be dating than the girls possibly ever could.

And it's just a total coincidence that the correct answer is always "the nice guy himself".

So I come home today to find a printed email on top of my new university-issued laptop:
The email wrote:To: (my dad)
From: NETGEAR WNDR3300 Security Alert

[site blocked: cdn-www.pornhub.com] from source (an IP address, presumably mine), Saturday, Jul 04,2009 15:40:50

I think, "oh shit, he caught me", because I do look at porn occasionally. As soon as I have a chance to skim the page, my dad says "you need to make me an administrator account on that thing so I can monitor you". I begrudgingly admit to it and agree.

But then I start thinking, and I remember that I don't really go to pornhub at all. Then I realize that I wasn't even home at 3:40 today. So it wasn't even me that triggered the email, but I've already admitted to it and my main defense is that I don't go to that particular site.
What you don't understand, you can make mean anything.

Plus, I am pretty sure that its illegal (or at least highly irresponsible) to set them off in a fucking apartment complex. Gah! I hate college students with no sense about them.

Ouch. Compared to this It Should Be Real's semi-unconsciousness and vague mumbling about how awful I am for waking her up whilst leaning against bookcases at what I consider a perfectly reasonable hour of the morning really isn't so bad.

Sorry for not wanting you to text me while you drive! I hate that. That is one of my biggest pet peeves. You can wait ten fucking minutes to get home to talk to someone.

And telling me that you just won't tell me the next time you do drive and text me, just makes it oh so much better.

O, heart! Thou racest as to best thy love,
That gall’ping gal, so loves she does the run,
To move, ‘mongst masses in a marathon,
Or to perambulate in private place;
Perhaps ‘tis just the roving that she loves,
To venture point to point, to see unseen
Parts of the world, to move and change and be
Dynamic in herself and in her self.

But why so swift the tempo of thy beat?
Blah, what denial, to pretend the cause
A mystery! For just this prior night
A gleam of hope she proffered up to thee:
That she’s unsure her fickle fancy fine,
Perhaps once more thou couldst have her as thine!
Alas, it can be no more than a tease,
For then she drove the dagger in thee, heart:
“ ‘Tis better that we stay this way, all right?”

O, Folly! What a fool is man!, to stand
So nigh the edge of reason and to find
The fall is fanciful! To will on whim
To sink beneath the tempest of the mad,
To relish reverie as though `twere real,
To think as though the thought were palpable,
To want as though to want were like to earn,
To need as though that were the course to have,
To die as though it were the spark to life!
O, beating heart be still and best no more!

Damn it. Damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it.

How the hell did my intended "I don't want to hang out with you for the next few years because you make me completely fucking miserable and the nice bits aren't worth the pain - better luck next time" speech turn into me sobbing and apologizing for not being good enough?! I got my desired result, but only by essentially declaring that I believe myself to be too inferior to him to continue being his friend. With which he agreed.

Fuck.

I mean, it wouldn't gall me so much if I didn't think he was right.

I am too much of a damaged train wreck to keep up with him in Life, Adventures, and Higher Education, and he is too much of a Smart Guy with an Obligation To Help Mankind to slow down for me. The damage is, for the most part, not my fault. (The incident which got me kicked out of a private high school was done while I was being heavily medicated; said medication induced some double plus un good things, but that's pretty much the only thing I actively label as My Fault.) But the trauma is still there, and at my so-far-accurate estimates it will take me at least two more years to get up to regular adventuring speed again, and then he'll be pretty damn far ahead, and I'll have to be faster, and even if I catch up to him we won't really get each other, because I dream of being an author and he doesn't read books, the twit.

God fucking damn it, I wish that my soul-brother of nigh-psychic-rapport wasn't such a fucking jerk.

Oh man, have you read The Code Book by Simon Singh? I don't have my copy anymore, gave it to a friend for her birthday, but that book... *goes misty-eyed with memories from Grade 5*
Ooh, and PopCo by Scarlett Thomas. It's a tad preachy on the anticonsumerism, but one of the characters sends encoded messages to another, and there's a great little passage on solving a Vigenere cipher.
In my head I call it a Vinegar Cipher.
Aforementioned guy went to the boys' school across the road from my girls' school, and his sister in the year below me used to relay notes back and forth for us in the simplest substitution cipher we knew.
Huh. Sometimes I forget just how much being a geek wasn't a problem for anyone I knew at either of those schools.

Yes, I did! That taught me pretty much everything I know. I can't find it though, and I was going to take a photo of it and be all "You mean... this book?"

Awesome.
I'm going to stop now though, because we are being all happy and bookish in a thread that is not designed for being happy and bookish.

Would rant about being stuck at home for the next week due to looking after my grandfather while my Mum and most of the family members who count are away or overseas, but... I'm actually kind of looking forward to it. I fail at ranting.

KDE just accidentally a bunch of my preferences and now everything looks fucked up.
And I'm thinking about switching to Enlightenment, maybe, but I don't have any strong reason to do that.

I hate Twilight fans. I, myself, like the book. Thought it was awesome, in fact. Film? Not so hot-so. But you try and start voicing your opinion and the next moment it's all "How dare u insult Kristen Stewart!!!1"

I also hate youtube commenters. And people who misuse grammar.

Possibly one of the worst things on the internet are the comments on youtube videos by Twilight fangirls/guys. Example: "You DON'T KNOW WHAT you are tlking bout!!!! I LUV Twilght!!!! SOOOO muchh!!!!! I LUV EDWARD MOST OF ALL THOUGH!!!! I wish it were REAL!!! He would TOTALLY LUV me 2!!!!" No joke. That is a real comment. Why must people deface the twilight fans' reputation like this? And then I find many comments like this have stupidly high numbers of thumbs-ups. I'm just saying, the worst mix of people on the internet are definitely these people. Urgh. </rant>
