I'm fairly sure that's actually illegal in this country (I think it should come under hate speech). Going to HR is entirely appropriate and is definitely not escalating too far seeing as, legally, you'd be reasonable to go to the police.

Yesterday, someone rang up and asked to speak to HR. As far as anyone in the office knew, we don't have HR. I checked on Google and we're actually there in the headline, Why ________ doesn't need an HR department and in an article titled Managing without HR, so that option's not there.

Amazon, dear Amazon, your algorithms amuse me.

Okay, I'm genuinely disturbed by this. I would know nothing about this if it wasn't for the fact I have access to pretty much nothing other than news channels. Trump came onto BBC news so I turned over (the fuckwit-in-chief has nothing to say I care to waste my time listening to). On Al Jazeera I stumbled across this. if false then the Independent, the Guardian and Al Jazeera are guilty of the worst levels of sloppy journalism. If true it is obscene and horrible from a civilised western state. Almost as worrying, why is this not headlining on BBC news and France24? Clearly CNN has obsessions closer to home and Sky & Fox news wouldn't know a real news story if it jumped repeatedly on their heads. Should I give up any residual trust in any 'news' outlet?

Not sure why it would be headlining on the BBC. Protests over police brutality in Paris? Seems less important than what is currently headlining on the BBC - Michael Flynn resigning over his ties with Russia, which could have resulted in the US National Security Adviser being blackmailed by the Kremlin. The bar is kinda high right now for an event to be considered important. As for France24 - they're probably more concerned with the possibility of a fascist taking over their country soon.

EDIT: Unless you're asking why the BBC didn't report it at all - they actually did, but I had to search for it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38948337

(Dang!) The pun was unintended. Yet; I left it in.

I do have a little 'thing' to complain, about.
They, the County of Lane in Oregon, USA,
are charging $4.00 US to park at Mt. Pisgha.
(Please note that Lane County Parks charges a $4 parking fee per vehicle.)

http://www.mountpisgaharboretum.com/about-mpa/
Yes. That will inspire the young and healthy to take their bicycles out to the park.
It puts visiting the park out of reach for low income families and disabled people.

(oh, sigh.) I remember The Days when protesting and changing Rules
to better serve members of my community was my active civic duty.

Now; Police brutality is of greater concern both at home and abroad.

I suppose, I should thank our Lucky Stars.

The moment you realise the backup-app made the backup on your phone's internal memory instead of the removable SD card without you realising, because some colossal specimen of stupidity thought it'd be a good idea for Android to call the internal storage "sdcard0". So now all your contacts1 (except those on your SIM-card) went straight to dev/null upon resetting your phone. As if resetting the damn thing didn't provide enough annoyance already with the bloatware you need to get rid of again or the automatic help popping up every single time to tell you things you already know about swiping to unlock the screen and such.
I now yearn for the past, when mobile phones weren't trying to be computers, computers didn't try to be phones and manufacturers didn't bundle a shitload of useless software into OS's. As much as like smartphones, I feel like technology gets on my nerves more often than it did ten years ago...

1 not to mention three years worth of photos or the handful of apps I actually used...

Have you heard about our lord and saviour Windows 10 Mobile? It pretty much behaves like a phone, because no one dares making an app for the platform. And you don't have to spend time removing the bloatware: you just can't.

On the other hand, it doesn't ever crash or break, so there's no need to have backups, and you have to charge your phone only one a week (because you barely use it). :P

I can still be angry at fatbergists though, right? Like, say, if someone poured two cartons of I-Can't-Believe-&c down the drain, they must notice that it goes really slowly and they should, reasonably, stop and think "maybe I am a shithead brainless punk". Because I am very angry. I'm also ill so my head hurts a lot with the rage, which doesn't help.

EDIT: Also the fat was rancid because they'd left it out for a few days intending to dispose of it but not getting around to it for a while. Like, a week. (Is rancid the right word here? It was bad anyway.)

Jesus. Yeah. Boil lots and lots of water and pour it down the sink while yelling about how you'd do it over their hands except it'd cool the water too much and also you don't want to hear their screams.

I think mixing the boiling water with soap (or other fat-encapsulating detergent) would help a great deal too. Also with making sure the burn marks are clean.

I had a sink clogged years ago and the plumber said it was due to "someone pouring tons of oil down the drain over years", which sounded ridiculous, who the the fuck would do something like that (it was a house shared with other strangers so someone else could have, it wasn't an accusation pointed at me). Years later still a new housemate saw me washing a pan that I had stir-fried something in oil in over the sink (washing the leftover oil, mixed with soap and water, down the drain) and berated me for that, saying that doing that enough will clog the sink up.

I'm still not sure what the fuck you're supposed to do with the oil left over in a pan if not that (throw it on the fucking lawn or something?) so I just gave up cooking with oil entirely. Needed to reduce the fat in my diet anyway.

That same housemate apparently jarred his used cooking oil and kept it in his cabinet. I don't know what he did with it after that. When I saw him with jars of oil, a while before he berated me for washing my pan, I had thought "does he pour tons of oil down the drain? why? what the hell is the purpose of that?"

I keep a metal coffee can in the fridge for oil/grease disposal (e.g. from browning ground beef). When it gets full, it goes in the trash and is replaced with a new can.

I've got a glass mason jar that I fill with grease then trash, leaving an empty jar.

If I cooked more things that produced greased, I'd save it for future cooking.

If there's a significant amount of oil left on a pan I'll usually wipe it off with kitchen roll and put it in the bin. If it's not enough to wipe off I tend to just wash it up and it goes down the sink with a washing up bowl full of hot soapy water.

I did have to unblock our sink here once though. I think that was mostly food stuff though. A new housemate moved in and kept not putting the drain trap back in place (splashes could move it off the drain itself pretty easily) and he'd deliberately put crumbs down it rather than in the bin.

Idk, when soap and hot water didn't seem to help I ordered some drain cleaner from Amazon prime and it cleared it right out even if it was covered in terrifying warnings about all the lye and acid and shit

Don't you have oil collection points nearby?

We save up our bottles of used oil (used for deep-frying and stuff) until someone takes the effort to bring them to a collection point (the nearest one seems to be the football club), whence they will be moved to a recycling station for biofuel or whatever.

Apparently running your car off filtered vegetable oil is something you could do at home. Except in Hungary that is illegal, because (get this) an excise tax is imposed on all fuels. Making the practice tax fraud of all things.

Of course, you're also supposed to report your income when you sell crack and pay the appropriate sales taxes on it, so....

There's a biodiesel station at my town's public works depot that I fill up with B100 (it's B60 in the winter) at - the co-op that makes it gets their grease from the local fast-food chains, mainly. It's fun getting to park with the firetrucks.

The tax on fuel is not about the fuel. It's about the road use (and construction and maintanance...). The fuel merely acts as a proxy for that.
Spoiler:
The exact same substance that could be put in the fuel tank is much cheaper as heating fuel, because it's not being taxed to pay for road work.
Electric vehicles are getting a pass on it right now, but should they become popular, some way of taxing them will become necessary. According to gaspricewatch, taxes on fuel come to about 50c per gallon. This would put a cap on the monetary savings of electric cars - one way or another, even with "infinite gas milage" (free solar electric cars), we'd have to pay at least about a quarter of what we pay now for fuel the distance their fuel takes us, presumed to be on public roads.
