There's something especially messed up about upper management getting rid of the subordinates of lower management without even involving lower management in the process. At a previous job of mine, my boss's boss came in one day and laid off all of my boss's subordinates (including me), then told my boss about it, and forbade my boss from even talking to her now-former subordinates about it (or giving them letters or reference, or anything).

Karma's a bitch though, and getting rid of me caused a major overhaul of the main corporate website that rested heavily on me to collapse almost entirely almost immediately, the boss's boss got fired by his boss for that (essentially fired for firing me), my boss and other colleagues welcomed me back once he was gone but by then I had a better job already, and soon thereafter the whole company mostly collapsed.

A friend's mum got offered a job at an IB school in Sweden, they offered to pay for flights for the entire family and to put them up in a hotel until they were settled and found a place to live. She's only been teaching two years, and only just got given a permanent position (which means she can't be fired), and her outlook on teaching lines up perfectly with that held by IB schools in general, it's just the most perfect situation possible.

Her boss, however, doesn't want her to leave because she's good at her job and the boss can't be bothered finding a replacement. The boss was told that it didn't really matter either way, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. The boss can't handle situations where she's not in control of every aspect, and so is refusing to provide a written reference. The school in Sweden said they'd take a verbal reference over the phone, and have been repeatedly calling to try and get one, but the boss won't answer the phone. It's just a frustratingly fucked-up situation that somebody can have an opportunity like that shut down by one person with a swollen ego being un-cooperative, and have absolutely no recourse without taking the nuclear option and calling in the union, which ends in situations like "she'll never work again in this state, not in education" and is an undesirable level of escalation at this point.

That really sucks. It seems like there ought to be some way to go around her boss. If the reference just needs to be proof that she did actually work there, the usual procedure I've heard of is just to get a letter from HR saying "Mrs. CarlingtonsFriendsMom has been employed as a JobTitle at ThisPlace from StartDate to EndDate."

I'm not 100% on the actual procedure taken, but she's a teacher and her boss the principal, so it's not a typical "go to HR" situation as far as I can tell. In any case, she's already decided that if this is who she's working for, she'll be leaving regardless of whether she gets a reference and goes overseas anyway.

Why on earth user interface devices (not sure what would be the proper term) like keyboards, mouses but also things like remote controls have to be so inconvenient to keep clean? So many little seams and other small shapes that just love to collect all the gunk. All of it. And of course even the tiniest amount of water, never mind any cleaning solution, will probably just get into the device and seek the electronics and break them.

I believe organic solvents like isopropanol (fairly easily available I think) are safe for electronics, non-viscous and volatile enough that they'll evaporated fairly quickly once you're done. They are also of course flammable though so you probably want to wait a while before playing crysis after cleaning it.

I actually took my remote control apart today, just to clean the frontside, the spaces between all the buttons, throughly. It still works and still looks almost good. (I accidentally scratched it when prying it open.)

Occasionally I have done the same to computer keyboards, but this new one of mine is more complicated. With the previous one I could detach the entire front side with the keys on the "frame" and wash it because all the electronics were on the other half of the device, but the new one doesn't work as conveniently. Hopefully just wiping the keys with the isopropanol alchohold is good enough for the most of the time so I don't have to start picking off the individual keys every time I want to clean them. (I will have to occasionally do it to get the stuff that has fallen between the keys, but hopefully not very often.)

It's similar with my new mouse too, it doesn't look like I can take it apart as easily as I could do the previous one, so will have to just wipe it most of the time. The computer innards have been upgraded a couple times, but otherwise I like keeping functional parts as long as they work, would be wasteful to do otherwise.

I remember fully dismantling and cleaning some XBox 360 controllers. Those things accumulate an awful lot of gunk after a few years of play. It was a lot more responsive after it had all been cleaned (I can't remember what solvent we used, but it was something organic).

I've heard mineral oil or distilled water is good for cleaning electronics.

Distilled water is also fairly insulating so not too big a deal. Main reason to prefer organic solvents is that a lot of them are more volatile so will evaporate off the electronics much more easily.

Isn't distilled water good at becoming not-distilled water very quickly on contact with dirty components?

My neck is so stiff and sore. Neck and upper shoulder on one side. I can barely turn my head. Any position soon results in a kind of rigor mortis and I can't get comfortable.

I could probably really use a massage, but I've never been to a massage place, and don't know how it works and am too nervous to just go in and try.

Physiotherapist may be the thing. They can do a bit of massage, a bit of manipulation, and a lot of figuring out what went wrong and how to prevent it from happening again.

waaa!

I have that problem from time to time. I usually just deal with it unless my medical deductible is fully paid. If that's the case, I go for a massage every week. I'm not sure how regular massage places work, but a chiropractor's office will bill insurance. Either way, I can say from experience that it is totally worth it.

If your neck and shoulder are stiff and sore enough to be uncomfortable, you'll feel a huge difference; not so much after the first one, but by the second or third, you'll feel so much better.

My neck is also extremely stiff. My shoulder is crappy too. I bent my head slightly to the left and down, and there was sharp pain in the back of my right arm. I hadn't been to the chiropractor for a couple months because I know most of the problem is because my muscles are too tight, and without a massage there is no point in going to the chiropractor, but I don't have time for a massage, so off I go to the chiropractor because it has become intolerable, and I love my chiropractor, he is very aware of my needs and issues and tries to work with them, but even with the additional muscle work, I was back to the same level of pain in half an hour, so there's another 50 bucks down the drain. The amount of pain in my shoulder is so concerning because unlike the neck and back pain I am accustomed to, it feels less like alignment issues/tension and more like something is out of place or torn, but I certainly can't afford to fix that, so what exactly is it I'm trying to do here, yesterday I woke up and I couldn't bend my neck at all, that subsided, but I keep wondering what my sed rate would be with the amount of inflammation that I am enduring. Did I mention my best friend is a massage therapist but she complains so much about her job that she won't massage me, I don't even feel comfortable asking so that it doesn't negatively affect our relationship, except that it already is, because you are my best friend and I should be able to mention anything. Maybe I don't actually have any friends, maybe they are a figment of my imagination or a hallucination brought on the pain I'm always in. Did I mention I've been going to a chiropractor since I was seven since my neck has pretty much always been this way, and yet somehow I'm still not used to it, you'd think I'd have built up a tolerance at least a little bit, instead I just have a migraine as my spine endeavors to take over my entire body a little at a time until I'm so swollen I look like Violet Beauregarde after she had the blueberry incident.

Sorry I usurped your rant. It just made me focus on something I shouldn't put additional brain power towards.

tl;dr - ouch.

Ech. If you were here, we could have fun with this.
A Race to The Loo!

The loser leans on the door and heckles.
I might 'Throw' the race.

It is more fun to lean on the door and heckle than it is to pee while being heckled.
Just, one of the little things experience teaches.

Waaa!
My neck hurts so bad, I cried out in pain when I turned my head to look at the coffee.

I Know!
Coffee is not good for healing muscle.

Coffee is a good anti-depressant!
Without coffee, life would be even More of a barren walk though an endless veil of tears.

On top of all that, The Days are Getting Shorter!
Really, Really shorter.

The dark is settling down on us.
It is wrapping its chilly arms around us.

Like a snake, it will squeeze the life out of many of us.
Then the light will return. It will be too late.
Life is, just, an exchange of electrons; It is up to us to give it meaning.

AND; NOW!
The internet has decided it does not want to be faster than greased lighting, anymore.
It's not as slow as Dial Up.

Still...I am used to a machine that is faster than I am. waaa.
Why? (was it something I said?)

Or; Is it a simple disruption in the Fabric of Reality?
EDIT:
I was thinking. (i'm qualified for the task)

Conspiracy Theories.
Of course, Wikipedia has an article on the subject.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspiracy_theory
A conspiracy theory is an explanatory proposition that accuses two or more persons, a group, or an organization of having caused or covered up, through secret planning and deliberate action, an illegal or harmful event or situation.

That dumb thing about the girl the WordPress essay and her PR guy does not qualify as a Conspiracy Theory.

That should not stop us.
The next one might be a Winner!

The overarching message is carried on Fear.
They. There must be a They.

But; They are most effective without faces.
Didn't you read any Stevie King?

I want a New Conspiracy Theory.
If you guys can't make one, I will.

How about Someone.
That's the they.

Someone has been working for fifty years, with the stated goal of Destroying the US.
See? Scary, already.

What evidence do we see?
Well...Tons!

How about the latest thing that Boggles my mind.
We have Eboli inside the Contental US.

Not inside a test tube that is inside a metal canister that is inside an impact resistant carrying case.
No. Inside living breathing Vectors! scary.

The Public Health System was pretty good and ready to step in.
The Public Health System has deteriorated, By Fucking Design!

What else has happened in the Last Fifteen Years?
Anything that might have weakened the US?

Do you remember the, "From enemies, both foreign and domestic" (?)
Well...Foreign or domestic? It is scarier to know the Truth. Is it not?

The Zombie Apocalypse is Coming!
It is coming to a Street near you!

"Get Your Gun, Tammy!"

In every movie except Trimmers,
The back woods Red Neck is always one of the first to die.

It must be hard to write intelligent dialogue for those guys.

Just moved interstate to a new apartment. I have 8 kB/s (roughly half as fast as carrier snail), and my main hobby is gaming. I am currently a very sad girl.

I don't know what that means, yurell.
I know it was in English. Thank you.

I came here to bitch a bit.
Maybe it will make me feel better.

Telling someone often does.
I was recently in a room with a person that did not Do anything to me, this time.

I had to sit there looking like I had no feelings or thoughts.
I am still shaking like a leaf on a tree. Why??

Can threats hang in the air like perfume?
Sensed; Yet, unseen?

How?? How the Hell does that happen.
Anything we can not see, smell, touch is Not Real!

Then when you feel your Spirit lighten at the sight of a friend,
What the Hell is That?

That is imagination.
And; So are Threats that Hang in the Air.

All I have to say to me:
Stop Shaking and Do fucking Something! about the One Thousand interesting and difficult problems that do not involve The Local Terrorist.

The Hell....
I know the Local Terrorist.
And; She hates me.

(fuck) I have a weird life.

I'm like Kermit.
It's not easy being me.

I'm purple.

If you don't have anything to bitch about;
I do!

No. I don't like to Paint.
I like things painted.

Not Everything.
Some stuff.

How does it get painted?
I paint it.

Does it look like I am having fun?
Bully for Me.

My Mark Twain imitation has not gotten me relieved of Painting Duty.
Maybe, I'm not doing it right.

The human body has some pretty serious design flaws.

Like, the other day, I got a stomach bug. Was feeling like crap all day long. Throwing up everything I ate and being generally miserable. Problem was, 80% of the misery wasn't really the bug, but not drinking or eating for a full day. D:

There has to be a better solution for this.
I edit my posts a lot and sometimes the words wrong order words appear in sentences get messed up.

I had that, too.
I decided it was Food Poisoning.

The numbers were appalling.
The numbers for food borne illness in the US.

Eating out is Risky Business.
Did you read the Hand-Washing Thread.

People take the classes.
They don't believe a word of it.

I experienced an unusual amount of Shoulder and Neck Pain with stomach distress.
Not typical of Food Poisoning? yes. I think it is.

oh, About your complaint of being dehydrated.
Yes. That can be serious.

Try keeping a little 7Up stashed away.
When nothing else will do,
Simply rinsing one's mouth with that sweet bubbling water, helps.

When we are dehydrated we will take up water though the mucus membranes.

Not much.
Some is better than none.

Besides.
7Up is not so bad, the second time a person sees it.

EDIT:
Here is a link on food borne illness.
http://epi.publichealth.nc.gov/cd/diseases/food.html
It says 17% of Americans become ill from food borne illness each year.

I think that number is Low.
(shrug) Who am I to question?

I am one of the 17%.
Every darned year.

Sometimes, I serve Twice!
I know. I know.

We were all taught to be careful about what we put in our mouths.
But; It looks and smells so good.

Small price to pay for not having to Kill and Skin every bite, myself.

It might kill me.
Not eating will kill me, too.

I have another Rant.
Because, People are highly susceptible to suggestion.
And; I am a People.

Have you ever been in a Haunted House?
Really?

How could you tell?
In the village nearest to the place where I am staying,
Some people say This Place is Haunted.

A Practicing Attorney! told me That.
I looked at her and said, "We don't believe that stuff."

She, just, gave me a flat, open look.
It seems, I was speaking for myself.

I don't believe in That.
But; Two times...
Two times, at least.

I had a weird experience.
Ahhhh!

I have to stop typing about it.
It's getting dark and it's a weird night, for some reason.

I am Freaking my self Out!
Ahhhhh!

Ghost or No Ghost.
It's a chilly night.

Why are we so Open to Suggestion in regard to Ghosts?

Step 1. Flip your keyboard pi radians.
Step 2. Try typing.
Step 3. Feel ill. All that was right with the world is no longer.
