While it doesn't sound surreal...

I went to a gothic karoke club the other night.

I never, ever... GOD SO WEIRD. It was like walking into a dream. Not like "oh, I've always dreamed about this!" but more of the "this type of match-up only happens in dreams". What was even more bizarre, was that they were live web-casting it. I mean... whoa, wtf, etc etc etc.
I've been sent to give you a singing mammogram.

One other rather odd experience, I once met a blind, traveling, door-to-door guitar salesman. No joke.

The Jehovah's Witnesses came by to visit just now and it reminded me of a truly surreal experience.

One day, when I was 17, I was sitting in drivers ed (private driving school) when, all of a sudden during class, someone came in, put down a book about the Virgin Mary right down next to me as if they were leaving it for me, and left. I never caught sight of who they were, and to this day I have no idea who did that or why.

Once I was going to a picnic with my friends but I got the time messed up and showed up an hour early. While I'm sitting around for them to come some random guy walks up and asks me if I want to smoke some weed. I hesitantly accept and we sit there smoking a joint. He tells me all about how he's going to walk from eastern Canada to Cuba (never asked how he planned to walk over the ocean). Then he tells me all about how he saw the Big Bang. Then he gets up, walks away and leaves me to ponder how I came to be smoking weed with a random guy who thinks he's seen the Big Bang.

Can't really remember anything being as surreal as some of the other stories here.

Only thing that comes close to it happened back in 1998 or 1999. At the time I lived with my parents out in the country, and there were a lot of farms and pastures I passed leaving or coming home from work or elsewhere. One late afternoon I was coming home from work and I saw a bull mount a cow and "take her for a ride" down the pasture. Behind me was another car, driven by a fairly beautiful woman. I looked in my rear view mirror, saw her reaction (we were both watching) and I just threw back my head and laughed.

I used to work for a company that offered horse back trail riding. During mating season it can get pretty interesting. I think the most interesting thing that I saw was two squirrels mating right in the middle of the trail. When our horses came too close for them, they simultaneously ran up a tree while still humping. I think it was the strangest thing I have ever seen... and it kind of made me wonder if humans can learn to do stunts like that....

I live in the middle of about seven farms. This is an every day occurance for me. Animals are strange; especially when they are in heat. Except for me, usually it is horses that I see.

My life is filled with surreal moments, I often take it for granted.

I constantly get woken up by ghostly figures who dissolve before my open eyes while I am paralyzed. There is a name for this phenomena but do not know it. I could tell of a number of other hallucinations, but I think that is not quite on topic.

Regarding the subject of occurrences that were real but appeared surreal; I have won a poledancing dance off against strippers, been hit on by a horny dwarf, seen goths dancing and singing along to various songs from The Lion King and Aladdin and seen a man walking past with his leg in a road cone while shouting "Yar! I am a pirate!." There are also the helpful ninjas. At one party there were some people dressed as ninjas that would appear from the bushes, solve a conflict then disappear.

However, the most surreal moment concerns the convergence of dreams and reality. I had a dream that I went to see the movie Saw 2 with my cousin who I believed to be out of town. I decided to go to the movie by myself that night. When the credits rolled I looked in front of me to see my cousin looking back at me. If that was not enough, he confessed that he had a dream that he saw this movie with me. We were both creeped out for days.

Hearing gun shots, people scream and seeing them run towards me at NYNY casino. I was really tired, it was a bit after midnight so I figured I was probably just imagining it but I wasn't. Stuff like that rarely happens on the strip, especially not in a big and nice casino like NYNY. I was meeting my friend there and when I ran and got to my car I called her right away to make sure she was okay and she wasn't anywhere near the area it happened so she started laughing at me thinking I was making it up.
"My God, man! Do they want tea?"
"No, I think they're after something more than that, sir. I don't know what it is, but they've brought a flag."

All evidence points to the fact that I had a surreal encounter.

I had gotten home from a party with zero sleep so I went to my room to sleep. I woke up, and had an extraordinarily agitated argument with my parents about their job as librarians (they aren't) and how they weren't giving me books or something. I finished off with "You're not making any sense!", whereupon I bolted back to my room where I was terrorised by a giant moquito, before I went back to sleep.

I swear I didn't drink or anything.

When I woke up I was like "Oh crap, dear God I hope that didn't happen. Please tell me I was dreaming"

I was awake for the entire experience - the librarian rant happened, the jury is still out on the giant mosquito.

I like to walk outside before a storm hits to marvel at the clouds that precede it. It always feel so surreal, watching the ambient lighting change and the sky darken.

I once saw a priest and a rabbi on a plane. They weren't stitting together which was dissapointing. I remember thinking "Well, there's no way this plane is going down."

Also, I was once in a food store when a bunch of people dressed as zombies came in to buy bottles of water. I later learned that they were participating the annual Richmond Zombie Walk, something I've always wanted to see or take part in.

For a few months last year, I worked as a dishwasher. It was a crappy job, but I'm glad I did it cause of this experience.
I was just in the back, scraping plates, nearly done for the night, when I happen across this one plate...it had a fake mustache on it, kinda covered in some sauce, mixed around a bit. A mustache. Like...someone had just decided it was a good idea to wear a fake 'stache and then rip it off and put it on their plate??
Odd.

Over the weekend, I was driving in a torrential downpour. I was driving through some curvy narrow streets, and I turn this corner and see an old woman, in a nightgown of some sort on the side of the street, with an umbrella and a broom, and she was sweeping the street.

Oh man, I just remembered one! When I was like twelve I was driving with my parents to go look at a house for sale (we were thinking about moving to the area). We got lost on the way and were in some semi-rural area that seemed wrong. My dad was pretty sure we needed to turn left, but there were no left turns, so we kept driving. Finally we found a left turn, and went on it. This road led from farmland into a completely unexpected forest. We drove on this strange forested road for like ten minutes before we realized that 1. there were no turn-offs, 2. There were no other cars, and (most frightening) 3. the road was curving back on itself in a U-shape that would indicate that it would once again cross the road that it came off of... But it never did. We kept driving, sure that at any moment we would see the cross-street. We drove on that road for half an hour, getting more and more creeped out. It had turned a complete U shape, and still no connection back to the main road. I'm pretty sure it was physically impossible.

After about forty minutes, we just gave up and turned the other way. It seemed to take half the time to get back to the main road. My parents have never brought it up again, and I rarely discuss it. It was just so bizarre. ...But sometimes I get the urge to go back there. I know where it is, and I still wonder...

I don't have many surreal moments, but whenever I have to run the mile at school and I look up, it looks like it's snowing, but the snow sort of dissipates before it get to the ground.

Apparantly so is Paranoid Schizophrenia.

The surrealist thing that I can think of is from a few years ago when me and the family were driving to Oasis Centreparks (Back before it was bought out by Centre Parks though).

My dad deceided that instead of taking the usual route he'd go a different one. We wound up driving into Scotland, then into the highlands where the wind was so strong that the car was tilting to one side, pushing us towards the edge of the road. After about 45 mins we passed a derelict building with the words "Local Shop" painted on the side.

I assume the same weather patterns exist wherever you are as in Australia, but green clouds usually indicate ice, which in turn equals a hailstorm, or at least some hailstones during the thunderstorm.

It's really freaky the first few times you see the clouds though. It can be just a green streak of cloud, or an entire huge area. And it's not just a little green, it's vibrant.

We were riding in a car towards Chatanooga TN once and I casually looked to the other side of the highway which was seperated from us by a median of about 20 feet. There was a van in mid air barrel rolling. Papers were flying out and it seemed so high up, though it could have only been maybe 10 of the ground maybe. Not sure how many times it spun, but it was incredibly slow and long. It landed on the median and people started pulling over instantly. Around fifty people started scrambling towards the van (we had stopped too but my mother wouldnt let me get out as I was 14 at the time). We called 911 as the people were being taken out of the minivan. Everyone was perfectly fine.

Another time was in California. We were driving up from LA to Seattle and had stopped in this small town somewhere around Mt Shasta. I wannna say the town was named Blue Sky or Blue Water, something like that. It was a small town, classic looking with a nice big park. But there were people in masks everywhere. Handmade masks of every size shape and color, cats, monsters, faires...There was a Yeti standing next to a man with flowers tied in his long hair. There were gigantic puppets of Mother Earth and Father Time dancing with a Methodist Church Choir in full robes. There was a group of dancers who's bodies were painted and who had glitter in their hair. There was earthy, thumping music mingling with church hymns. The whole group paraded through the park, dancing down main street as they smiled and laughed and brought onlookers into the parade to dance. Girls walked around and handed out masks, gave my family some to wear so we could join in.

It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.

Lastly, I was riding through Amish Country in PA with my family by accident. We drove around, getting behind horse carts, getting into communities and weaving our way out. Everytime we saw someone, they smiled warmly and waved. Little children in their dresses and suits tottled out to look at us. I've never felt so welcomed, even though we didn't even get the chance to speak to them.

I have many more moments, but those stick out ot me right now.

This, by far. I don't know whether it's the mask, the voice, the ability to provide such cunning illusion, that the kids are so happy to buy into it, or that the professor dude obviously knows what's going on, wants to stop the children, but either can or will not. It's really very surreal.

EDIT: upon watching it through again, the whole damn thing is creepy as shit.

I love that. Who was it again here who had the angel as his avatar? Either he changed it or I haven't seen him in a while. Why can't I remember his name? Someone help me with this.

As for surreal, I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier. A few months ago, a diesel tanker truck overturned on a highway in town and the fuel ignited, creating a very large, ominous column of black smoke. It was in a tight chasm carved out of a hillside, and of course the police had all the surrounding roads blocked, so no one really knew what it was at first. It wasn't until sometime later that we knew for sure. School came to a complete halt. Even though we were far enough away to be safe, no one could talk about anything else.

EDIT: Pictures from various parts of town: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

I used to live in the midwest, and a friend and I once saw an enormous animal with glowing red eyes bounding across a cornfield. It was the scariest experience of both of our lives.

Sorry, my fault. That was me. Trying out my new werewolf-on-a-pogo-stick costume. I didn't think you were paying attention. [/jackassery]

If they have the right resources they can...

...although it can lead to many mistranslations.

...which makes things even more interesting.

So of course I read a translation of the Kama Sutra... and find something surreal in Part 2, Chapter 6...
Spoiler'd for people who don't want to know.
Spoiler:
When a woman stands on her hands and feet like a quadruped, and her lover mounts her like a bull, it is called the 'congress of a cow'. At this time everything that is ordinarily done on the bosom should be done on the back.

In the same way can be carried on the congress of a dog, the congress of a goat, the congress of a deer, the forcible mounting of an ass, the congress of a cat, the jump of a tiger, the pressing of an elephant, the rubbing of a boar, and the mounting of a horse. And in all these cases the characteristics of these different animals should be manifested by acting like them.

Um, that was surreal.
Anything I said pre-2014 that you want to quote me on, just run it past me to check I still agree with myself.
