I like it, but there is one problem: lakitus can't throw eggs. If that was a yoshi up there, however...

On the contrary, Lakitus do throw eggs -- spiny eggs. Image

They've also been known to fish, carry cameras, referee kart races, and the elite Thunder Lakitus even fling raw elemental energy around. Lobbing a Yoshi egg off a building doesn't seem out of the question. :P

Yes, but if lakitus can throw yoshi eggs, then why didn't they save the baby Luigi in Yoshi's Island? They would be able to do everything yoshis can but also fly. Not helping would be cruel.

Now going by the assumption that lakitus aren't cruel (if they were, then they wouldn't carry around cameras for everyone and generally be helpful), they didn't help out in Yoshi's Island because they were unable (as opposed to unwilling). Their only lack could be in the area of egg throwing. Therefore lakitus can't throw yoshi eggs.

You'd think lakitus would poop out smooth eggs rather than spiny eggs. They must have some strong dedication in murdering Italians to pass spiny eggs through their hoohoo's.

Lakitus can neither ground-pound nor eat nearly anything. Both of these abilities were vital to the success of the Yoshis' mission during the events of Yoshi's Island. Furthermore, nearly all the Lakitus on the island were under the command of Kamek at the time, as demonstrated by their attempts to interfere with the Yoshis as well as steal Baby Mario directly.

I will concede that Yoshis who have trained in combat generally possess superior throwing skills to Lakitus - while the first segment of the Lakitu training regimen focuses on throwing ability (primarily in the area of marksmanship), the majority of Lakitu training is oriented around weather magic, especially with regard to the creation and control of the Lakitu's signature flight-cloud. In contrast, traditional Yoshi martial arts is dedicated almost entirely to the making and throwing of eggs.

(Yes, I have thought about this too much. Lakitus are the geeks of the Mushroom Kingdom, after all, and as such I tend to identify with them. See avatar.)

Jebobek wrote:You'd think lakitus would poop out smooth eggs rather than spiny eggs. They must have some strong dedication in murdering Italians to pass spiny eggs through their hoohoo's.

Lakitus don't actually lay the eggs themselves - the cloud, in addition to providing transportation, also serves as storage for ammunition. If you watch you can see them rummaging around in the cloud to retrieve a spiny egg before throwing it.

Hey, evolution goes for the survival of the species, not the comfort.

@NMcCoy: Also, lakitu spiny eggs don't bounce off of walls, they just pass through. I have a hard time accepting the idea that they can suddenly change the behavior of their thrown eggs.

roc314 wrote:I have a hard time accepting the idea that they can suddenly change the behavior of their thrown eggs.

This actually depends on the stage of development the egg is in - the eggs start off initially green and with soft, pliable shells. As the spiny develops inside, its spikes protrude through the soft shell as a defensive mechanism. Green spiny eggs, when thrown, will bounce and roll around (as seen in Super Mario Bros. 3). As development continues, the shell turns yellow and becomes harder and more brittle. These eggs will break upon impact with a hard surface, killing the undeveloped spiny inside; this is the state of the ammunition used during Yoshi's Island. If they're incubated properly in the yellow stage, the shell eventually thins and becomes very fragile, showing the red body of the spiny within, and it is these eggs that hatch upon impact with the ground. (These red eggs were the armament favored by the Lakitus during Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World.)

Originally I did make it so that it landed safely and then the egg got broken. I felt bad for the stickman that launched it, so I took that out and let it remain unscathed.
