Along those lines, what is the preferred way of posting an image? Why don't people always attach them rather than link to them, because that seems a lot easier to me.

FWIW, I can always see attachments, but at work most of the image hosting sites are blocked so the images just don't show up on my screen.

The other reason for linking to the attached images is that if you just place them inline you don't get them full size. And if you link to them without placing them inline, it shows the attached images anyway, so you might as well hide them away in a spoiler.
