Today I learned that I enjoy watching Ultimate Fighting Championship matches. I'd assumed that the fighting techniques used would be too advanced for me to follow and that matches would be extremely short. Flicking through TV channels, I happened across some and it really grabbed my attention, I could follow what was happening quite well and one of the matches went through the full three five-minute rounds. I'm glad my assumptions were wrong.

Today Whelan and I learned that his olde Fujitsu-ICL Indiana computermabob (put away in the shed before the millenium) has a mirror attached to the inside of the case. We don't understand, but we're mounting it on the wall anyway.

Greasy fingerprints? Oh no... start running now. Just get away from there. You don't have time to grab anything just run and don't stop until you collapse. You'll know if you've made it when you wake up.

Today I learned what squid tastes like: It wasn't too bad. However, it probably would have been more appetizing if I hadn't removed the creature's eyeballs and examined its organs beforehand. It's probably not healthy to have new food experiences in science class.

Two other interesting ones are Brazil, which was named after the brazilwood tree and not the other way around, and Wales. It shares a root with Wallachia (combined with Moldavia to form Romania in the 19th century) and Wallonia (French-speaking Belgium), that root being the word walha, a Germanic name meaning "stranger" that they gave to people who spoke Celtic or Romance languages.

(Yes)-terday I learned that being nice to people actually is a good thing.

There was one of those people who canvas strangers in order to make them donate to a charity. They didn't look like they were enjoying themselves, so after making it clear that I couldn't donate, I chatted to them about anything and everything for half an hour. I'd like to think I made their day slightly more enjoyable.

And I landed a job interview out of it! I can almost start believing in karma!

Today I learned that a track I've liked for ages is actually a part of the soundtrack to the movie The Exorcist. I haven't seen said movie, but the discovery was very surprising, because it does not sound like something I'd associate with a horror movie. Maybe it's because I know it from The Philosophy of Liberty.

today I learned about the 1972 presidential race by reading Hunter S. Thompson's book, "Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72"
I learned Muskie was an old boring blow hard that sucked at campaigning, McGovern was cool but was bad at rallying crowds, and Wallace was a senility rocked lying SOB. Or that's what I made out of it.

Yeah, I'm not sure what source you're using for your definition of karma. Wikipedia indicates to me that karma can apply to both intra- and inter-life stuff.
