I set up a wireless webcam on my balcony, take a look!

Postby WraithXt1 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 8:36 am UTC

I'm super excited about getting this to work, so I decided to post it here!

I just bought a Wireless Webcam, and set it up on my balcony railing overlooking the H1 Highway and a nice golf course. Here's the address if anyone wants to look! Also, you can control where the camera is facing, so feel free to look around!

*Only works in IE*

^ Thats close to where I live, but I'm actually one building to the east from that marker.

Very Cool!
Although, i'm kinda wondering why there are so many people on the highway at time of posting (4:45AM local time)...figured no one would be up yet.

Changed it up so I dont look like a cam whore.

I wish I could view it from work! I could hear people rotating it while I was asleep last night, it woke me up a few times, I'm a realy light sleeper and it sounded like my cell phone vibrating.

Yay! Something to help me judge the traffic before I go home!

Although I don't have transportation at the moment. Soon as I get a means of getting around, I'll send you a PM.

What is wrong with that parking lot configuration? The outside row has no exit! They're all parked in!

Yeah, the downstairs is the same way. Those double stalls are for the same apartment. I dont get it either, it seems like a ripoff to me!

Also, the camera only rotates 180 degrees. If people would rather stare at my living room than than outside I can turn it around or bring it inside!

Well, if you turned it inside and attached a laser pointer to the top of it, you could probably write messages on his wall :D You'd just need to record the video!

Hah! I dont think my landlord would appreciate that AT ALL.

It does have a mic, however the wind blowing from the mountains makes it a constant roar. If I move it inside I'll turn it on.

A few years ago, I happened across this really awesome site: They used some Google magic to index pretty much every non-secured webcam on the net, and had them all available on this site. There were webcams from little cafe's in Greece, high schools in Britain, literally thousands upon thousands of webcams.

It was creepy as hell, as none of the people you could see had any idea you were watching them, but it kicked major ass. Don't suppose anyone knows if it's still around?

I guess I'll put it inside today then. I just wonder where I'm going to put the thing. or maybe I can just half rotate it so people can see half outside and half inside!

I would think so.

So you have a wall projector, but what's the television right next to it for (or is the projector just so we can more easily watch you play Rock Band)?

The TV came with the apartment, and I dont have anywhere else for it to go really. I've never even bothered to see if it works.

I think I broke my wrist doing pushups on that stupid wii board too.

Well now I changed my user name and password, but for some reason I cant log in to change them. So I cant play with the settings to improve the framerate.

And it wont let me reset.

Can you mod it so it has little Nerf rockets that can be fired remotely? You can get such a device on ThinKGeek I believe.

I am simultaneously intrigued and frightened about OpenTopia. Then again, it's "solved" the perplexing "problem" of proving to some morons that the other side of the world (namely Austrailia, for some reason) is dark when the US is light. Damn foolish Americans and their ignorance for the basic laws of optics (the study of light). That being said, it is awesome to see things like people failing at billiards and walking by the camera going to class.

Unfortunately, I can only watch still photos. Apparantly my craptastic Comcast connection can't correctly carry cams (alliteration, ahh!). Whenever I have it set to "feed mode" (OpenTopia), it might as well be the still photo setting (each "update" doesn't render until a good 30 seconds after the last one. It'd be faster if I just kept hitting refresh).

Anyway, it'll be awesome to see Hawaii, lol. Just make sure that whenever you have the camera pointed inside, that you're not doing anything important. I could just see it now: someone doing something like this, but decided to use the projector to handle their finances online. Hopefully you don't have the setup to accidentally do this, because you never know when you'll forget.

This photo has been shooped. I know, I have shooped many whoops in my time. :D

I've heard of second-hand stories about viewers catching people sexing each other up/fighting/dancing in the rain/etc., but I'll leave that to y'all to find archives for that. If you want to, the quality of the cameras are decent at best...

So I guess it's a bug in the firmware or something ,because whenever I change my user name, it locks me out.
