I think it's just a coincidence, as I'm sure this topic was brought up at some point in the past... I really don't know how I'd go about looking for the specific thread(s), though, to find out the actual findings of the discussion.

It's sort of like "Douglas Adams worships the devil because 6*6+6=42" .... It's a coincidence.

But it's a fun coincidence. An awesome coincidence.

You guys are real stick-in-the-muds.

I would like to ammend my post at this point and say that is a fun fact the first time you see it. MAYBE the second. Quit with the duplicate threads already.

Oh my.

Repent everyone!
I feel guilty about lending that book out now, I've destroyed the lives of those I love!

I like silly little coincidences.
I dislike drawing conclusions from them.

There's a thread about it in News & Articles, but it's sort of veered off topic...

I won't tell N&A about this version if you don't. =P

XKCD=42!!!

Postby kommie » Fri Aug 15, 2008 9:57 pm UTC

anyone else ever notice?
XKCD
24+11+3+4=42

quote from site
"What does XKCD stand for?

It's not actually an acronym. It's just a word with no phonetic pronunciation. It stands for the comic and everything the comic stands for!"

so the comic stands for life, the universe, and everything!

A fallacy caused by counting from 1 instead of zero. X+K+C+D = 23 + 10 + 2 + 3 = 38 when you do it the PROPER way A = 0, B = 1, etc :P

But zero isn't a natural number. There are 26 letters, not 25.

True. Everyone will agree that "a" is the first letter of the alphabet. Why try to make it the zeroth?

everyone knows 'a' is 97, or 0x61.
